It is our immense pleasure and honor to be the first batch attending the first-ever organized “Faculty In-Plant Visit and interaction Programme in India’s public sector unit namely Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) Bangalore Plant. Bharat Electronics Limited is the leading public sector amongst the electronics industries in India. We are thankful to the BEL Management & Staff for the permitting us to undertake the In-Plant as per visit and interaction program on our request.
We express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Hemanth Kumar (PRO, BEL), Mr. Kiran V (International Marketing, BEL), Mr. Sharath Bhat (EMI Division, BEL) and all the employees who have co- operated in sharing the knowledge and allowing us to learn throughout the training sessions. We also extend our thankful regards to Mr. Nagaraj Hediyal, CEO, eNLiven Technologies, who helped us in understanding the Quality and testing process involved, along with various products manufactured in BEL for Indian Armed Forces.

INTRODUCTION
Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) was established at Bangalore, India, by the Government of India under the Ministry of Defense in 1954 to meet the specialized electronic needs of the Indian defense services. Over the years, it has grown into a multi-product, multi-technology, multi-unit company serving the needs of customers in diverse fields in India and abroad.
BEL offers products and services in a wide spectrum of technology like Radars, Military Communications, Naval Systems, Electronic Warfare Systems, Telecommunications, Sound and Vision Broadcasting, Opto-Electronics, Tank Electronics, Solar Photovoltaic Systems, Embedded Software and Electronic Components. With its expertise developed over the years, the company also provides turnkey systems solutions.
Defense continues to be BEL’s prime focus but the Company has also diversified into civilian areas. Some of the successful civilian products include the Electronic Voting Machines, Solar Powered LED-Based Traffic Signal Lights, Simputers and Set Top Boxes.
BEL offers contract-manufacturing services for both domestic and international customers. It has automated assembly, inspection and testing facilities as also precision machining capabilities. It adheres to strict process and manufacturing standards, producing world-class products.
BEL has its Registered Office at Bangalore and manufacturing units at nine locations in India. A network of marketing and customer support centers across India and two overseas offices at New York and Singapore supplement the operations of the manufacturing units.
BEL has been laying great emphasis on Research and Development right from the early years. It has also been able to successfully partner as production agency with many DRDO labs. From a meager turnover of Rs.2 lakhs in 1956-57, BEL has grown manifold to record a turnover of Rs.10, 510 Crores (provisional) in 2017-18.

INDRA II is L Band low-flying detection radar that caters to the vital gap filling role in an air defense environment. It is a transportable and self-contained system with easy mobility and deployment features. The system consists mainly of an Antenna, Transmitter cabin and Display cabin mounted on three separate vehicles.

STARS-V Mk III is a Next Generation, Multi-band, High data rate, IP radio with Mobile Adhoc Networking (MANET) functionality. The radio works in wide frequency band in V/UHF range. The radio works in Frequency Hopping (FH) and Fixed Frequency (FF) modes with built-in-high-grade digital secrecy in voice and data modes. The radio is built around latest state of the art hardware using DSP and FPGA.

BEL Bangalore has India’s best Environmental Test facility, which covered the major part of our visit to BEL thereby helping us enhance our knowledge on the Quality and test procedures carried out on various equipments and products.

Testing Standard
Employing with finest of engineering practices Sand and Dust Chamber are uniquely designed to perform testing processes compliant to IEC, JIS, MIL and IS standards etc. Furthermore, many other suggestive standards can also be combined on request.
Construction
Dustproof testing machines are constructed with high quality materials. With a custom choice of customers, exterior is constructed with CRCA sheet, Stainless Steel (304, 316 & 316 L) or Galvanized sheet. Interior chamber is made of stainless steel with mirror finish. The door is solid and lockable with a micro switch enabling an interlocking system. The door is provided with toughened glass observation window and a rubber wiper with rotating handle.

Vibration testing with a Thermotron electro dynamic Shaker Test System provides a testing platform for transportation simulation, mechanical shock, mission profile, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), and more. With dynamic and enhanced performance in displacement, velocity, acceleration, and force, Electro dynamic Shakers accurately simulate a wide range of conditions that can help to Improve quality and reliability of products.
A Thermotron electro dynamic shaker can be used in a variety of applications, making it a versatile and highly adaptable piece of equipment. A Thermotron Vibration Shaker can test in a vertical or horizontal orientation; utilize a fixture, slip table, or head expander; and interface with a Thermotron AGREE Environmental Test Chamber.
