Monsignor Walden * Index Included at End of Transcript 3 General Meeting 11/22/16 1 grew up in Greenport, so he's Legislator Krupski's boy, too 2 (laughter). After graduating from high school, he entered the 3 seminary. He attended Pious the Tenth Minor Seminary in Uniondale 4 for the first two years of college, and the Seminary of the 09:33AM 5 Immaculate Conception in Huntington for the remaining two years. 6 He then studied Theology for four years and was ordained in 1971. 7 8 He has served as Associate Pastor of Saint John the Evangelist in 9 Riverhead, Saint Anthony's in Brentwood, Saint Anthony of Padua in 09:33AM 10 East Northport before becoming Pastor of Saint Thomas More Church 11 in Hauppauge in 1989. He served as Pastor of Saint Thomas More for 12 14 years before becoming the Pastor of Saint Patrick's in 13 Smithtown. Welcome, Monsignor Walden. 14 09:33AM 15 MONSIGNOR WALDEN: 16 Let us pray. As we once again will mark our National Day of 17 Thanksgiving, we are grateful for the nation we have. Building on 18 what those who have gone before us have accomplished, we continue 19 to work together for the good of all in our nation. As this 09:34AM 20 elected body of Legislators for Suffolk County meets once again, we 21 ask you, Almighty God, to send your spirit of wisdom and truth into 22 their minds and hearts. Enable them to be true public servants. 23 May your wisdom and truth melt all divisions and discord. Enable 24 these Legislators, as well as all of us who look to them, to 09:34AM 25 strengthen our bond with one another and all those you entrust to 26 our care. Amen. 27 28 (Amen Said in Unison) 29 09:34AM 30 P.O. GREGORY: 31 Thank you, Monsignor. Please remain standing for a moment of 32 silence in memory of John Peter Russo, father of Domenico Russo, 33 professionally we call him D.J. here at the Legislature, a 34 Legislative Aide in the Clerk's Office in Hauppauge. 09:34AM 35 36 Also, remember Walter Hilbert, Chief of Wastewater Management, 37 employed in the Suffolk County Health Department for close to 38 30 years, who passed away recently. 39 09:35AM 40 We extend our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to their families. 41 42 Let us also remember all those men and women who put themselves in 43 harm's way every day to protect our country. 44 09:35AM 45 (Moment of Silence) 46 47 Okay. We have several presentations this morning, the first being 48 Legislator -- Legislators Calarco and Browning will present a 49 proclamation to Linda Leuzzi? 09:36AM 50 51 D.P.O. CALARCO: 52 Leuzzi. 53 54 P.O. GREGORY: 09:36AM 55 Leuzzi, excuse me. 56 * Index Included at End of Transcript 4 General Meeting 11/22/16 1 D.P.O. CALARCO: 2 Good morning. And it's a real pleasure to be able to present a 3 proclamation this morning to Linda Leuzzi, who is our Editor for 4 many years at the Long Island Advance and also for the Suffolk 09:36AM 5 County News, which covers much of the South Shore of Long Island, 6 stretching from, including the Suffolk County News, the Islip area 7 all the way out to Center Moriches. And Linda Leuzzi has been one 8 of those consummate professionals that you look to in the media. 9 09:37AM 10 In a time when local papers are struggling to keep up readership, 11 the Long Island Advance is one of the most heavily read papers and 12 most relied upon sources of news in the Patchogue area, and it's 13 because of the type of reporting that Linda demands, both of 14 herself and all the staff writers who are working for her. They 09:37AM 15 don't copy press releases, they don't just post photos that you 16 send in, they're going to go out, they're going to report on the 17 story, they're going to ask questions. She has won numerous awards 18 for her journalism, because she makes sure that she gets the story 19 done right, and she makes sure that the story is accurate, and that 09:37AM 20 it provides the readers with useful information. 21 22 And, Linda, we are going to sorely miss you, though I know you're 23 not going very far. You're going to stick around for a while and 24 do some -- go back to freelance work, right? 09:37AM 25 26 MS. LEUZZI: 27 Yes. 28 29 D.P.O. CALARCO: 09:37AM 30 And we appreciate all of your years of service to our community, 31 because the media really is the fourth estate and plays a very 32 critical role. 33 34 MS. LEUZZI: 09:38AM 35 Thank you. 36 37 (Applause) 38 39 LEG. BROWNING: 09:38AM 40 It's been a lot of fun with Linda. One thing, Linda will never 41 take a press quote or -- in writing, she wants to talk to you. And 42 I know many of our conversations wind up not just about the issue, 43 but a lot of other items. But I have to say Linda has done a 44 phenomenal job with the newspaper, making sure people in the 09:38AM 45 community know about everything that's going on in our community, 46 whether it be issues, things at the Gateway Playhouse, or things 47 going on in Patchogue Village, Bellport Village. She makes sure 48 that the message gets out and she does phenomenal reporting. 49 09:38AM 50 So I want to say congratulations. And I know that you're going to 51 be writing your book and finishing up a book, so I'm looking 52 forward to when you actually get it published. 53 54 MS. LEUZZI: 09:38AM 55 Thank you. 56 * Index Included at End of Transcript 5 General Meeting 11/22/16 1 LEG. BROWNING: 2 Congratulations. 3 4 MS. LEUZZI: 5 Thank you.
