Mike Arminio Top End Constructors Inspector Gladden Sandra McClellan T opher Best Carmine Goglia . , Stu Nahan Bio A television veteran since the 1950's, Stu Nahan is best remembered for his role as a boxing commentator in all of the Rocky films as well as being a longtime sportscaster in the Los Angeles market. Nahan originally began working as the KCRA sportscaster in Sacramento. He established himself in this role after telling Bob Kelly, the Station Manager and owner at the time, that KCRA needed a sportscaster. When Bob asked Stu who he thought they should hire, Stu promptly said, "Me"... and they did. He soon added to his responsibilities a children's show where he was known as Skipper Stu. He got that job based on having 4 children of his own at home. Stu was quoted as saying, "if I talk to the kids (on his show) the way I talk at home, we might lose our license." In the mid-to-Iate 1970's, Nahan began working in the movie industry. He always played a sports personality... actually, he always played himself. Aside from the Rocky films, Nahan is also remembered for a small but often referred to role in the film Fast Times at Ridgemont High when he interviews the character Jeff Spicolli in a dream sequence. The quote that most remember is Sean Penn saying to Stu, "Hey dude, nice jacket." Nahan worked in the Los Angeles television market at KABC, KNBC and KTLA from 1986 until 2003 and spent time with radio stations KABC and KFWB. He was also involved with the Los Angeles Dodger's pregame shows. Stu and his wife, Sandy, are presently enjoying his children, Kathy, Mickey and Casey... his grandchildren, Dina, Sarah, Stefanie, Mark and Joshua and his great grandchildren, Maddy, Tory, James, Peter, Cole, Phoebe and Gavin.     The Newsroom’s Toy Department: The Different Images of Sports Journalists in Films By David Sobieraj The Newsroom’s Toy Department Sobieraj 2 ABSTRACT Sports are a major part of pop culture. Sports are not just games that athletes play; they are a way of life. The roles that sportswriters and broadcasters play in the movies are a microcosm of the roles they play in real life. Most movies that include sportswriters as characters portray them as a myriad of anonymous fictional journalists who act more like paparazzi than news reporters. These characters flash cameras and yell out questions to sports stars. When real-life journalists portray themselves in bit-part roles, they are sometimes portrayed as caricatures, mocking the role of sportscasting as well as themselves. In contrast, actors who portray real-life well-known journalists and actors who play fictional sports journalists in major roles in a film take on the role of sportscasters who believe their job is to inform the public about star athletes. Moreover, the manner in which women sportswriters are depicted in films reflects the manner in which they are viewed in the real world. In summary, the journalists that cover sports in movies portray the same roles that they take on in the real world. Some are just paparazzi, looking for the latest dirt on well-known athletes. Some don’t take themselves seriously and see their job as more entertainment than hard news. Finally, some do see their role as investigative journalists who bring to light important information on the star athletes that they cover.

At the tenth annual Day of Pride the outstanding honorees were awarded full, four-year merit scholarships to UConn, letters of congratulation and a commemorative plaque. The other 100 honorees each received a letter of commendation granting them admission to the university.
