Bailey: ‘Barring Any Setbacks, I’ll Be Out There’ By Stuart Zaas DenverBroncos.com November 27, 2013 Cornerback Champ Bailey talked about his status for this week’s game at Kansas City. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – After missing the past four games with a foot injury, cornerback Champ Bailey feels he’s getting closer to making his return this week at Kansas City. Bailey sat out the first five games of the season with a foot injury before reinjuring the foot at Indianapolis in Week 7. The patience required to let the foot heal is something that hasn’t come easily for the 15th-year veteran. “That’s the hardest thing for me,” Bailey said. “Any time something goes wrong, I want to be in there to try to help. But, I have to make sure I take care of my body. The foot is feeling a lot better. I’m going to keep progressing through the week to make sure that I’m ready for Sunday.” Bailey returned to practice on Wed., Nov. 13 and has been limited in each session since. He was listed as doubtful for the Week 11 game versus Kansas City and then questionable for Week 12 at New England. This week, he said his prognosis could be more positive. “I feel like barring any setbacks, I’ll be out there," Bailey said. "That’s the way I’m preparing myself this week – to play. And if nothing goes wrong, I’ll be there.” Bailey has been listening to the doctors’ advice as well as his own body as he rehabilitates the foot.

  • [Jamstarting Whistle] R. Lee Quinn
Five seconds! [jamstarting whistle] R. Lee Quinn: Hi and welcome to this first episode of Crime City Radio, with R. Lee Quinn and Merle Hazard This is a brand new podcast where we will talk about things related specifically to Crime City Rollers but also about roller derby in general. In this first episode we will talk about how european derby is really starting to move up in the world rankings. We will have a conversation with Kix from Crime City Rollers Ateam and Merle will guide you through what you need to know about the teams CCR will be facing at Beach Brawl this weekend. Last year, in the April rankings, there were only two european teams in the top 100. London Rollergirls at number 3 and Auld Reekie Roller Girls at number 100. And that was it! But the following month a lot of european teams took a big jump in the rankings and in May there were five european teams in the top 100. Last year, several european teams travelled to the US, played well against a lot higher ranked teams and since then we have been climbing, and we’ve been climbing fast. So in this years May rankings there are no less than eight european teams in the top 100! 11 London Rollergirls 24 Glasgow Roller Derby 31 Stockholm Roller Derby 35 Helsinki Roller Derby 59 Bear City Roller Derby 62 Auld Reekie Roller Girls 78 Crime City Rollers 83 Tiger Bay Brawlers 102 Rainy City Roller Girls (not really top 100 but too close not to mention) 1 Based on the June rankings, the top 40 teams get to play division 1 playoffs, and the teams ranked at 4160 will get to play division 2 playoffs.

  • A History of the Presentation of American Football in England and Germany
FROM VIOLENCE TO PARTY: A HISTORY OF THE PRESENTATION OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL IN ENGLAND AND GERMANY DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Lars Dzikus, M.A. * * * * * The Ohio State University 2005 Dissertation Committee: Approved by Professor Melvin L. Adelman, Adviser Professor Sarah K. Fields Adviser Professor William J. Morgan College of Education ABSTRACT While scholars have widely discussed the cultural, economic, and political influence of the United States on Europe in general and Germany in particular, the realm of sports has received surprisingly little attention. This study ties in with the scholarly debate about Americanization and / or globalization that started in the first half the 1990s. It examines the presentation of American football in England from the 1890s through World War II as well as in Germany following the war to the present day. The study discusses what non-Americans wrote about football and what their countrymen and –women read about it. The study draws on English and German newspapers and magazines, particularly the London Times and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. It also examines the role American military, radio, television, and movies played in the diffusion of American football. In the case of Germany, the researcher draws on extensive qualitative interviews with several of the “founding fathers” of American football in Germany as well as his own experiences in the sport. The work demonstrates that American football arrived in Germany on a field that had been prepared by a three-hundred-year process of imagining Amerika.
