INDUSTRY REPORT (AN ARTICLE OF ITV ) After my graduation, my ambition is to work in ITV channel, for creating movies for children and applying 3d graphics in news channels is my passion in my life. In this report I would like to study about Itv’s News channel functions and nature of works in ITV’s graphics hub etc. ITV is a 24-hour television news channel in the United Kingdom which Launched in 1955 as Independent Television. It started broadcasting from 1 August 2000 to 23 December 2005. Latterly only between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm when ITV4 cut its hours to half day in 2005 and analogue cable, presenting national and international news plus regular business, sport, entertainment and weather summaries. Priority was usually given to breaking news stories. There was also an added focus on British stories, drawing on the resources of the ITV network's regional newsrooms. As a public service broadcaster, the ITV network is obliged to broadcast programming of public importance, including news, current affairs, children's and religious programming as well as party election broadcasts on behalf of the major political parties and political events. Press release Embargoed: 00.01 April 7, 2016 Innovate or risk irrelevance, new report warns TV news providers Traditional television viewing is falling, and the rapid rise of online video viewing continues. If television news providers fail to respond to these profound shifts in how people use media, they risk eventually becoming irrelevant, a new report from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, University of Oxford warns. While television remains an important medium for news – and will remain so in years to come, according to authors Rasmus Kleis Nielsen and Richard Sambrook – failure to recognise and engage with the steep changes in the industry now could lead to losing touch with audiences as people, especially younger people, spend less and less time with traditional television. Television viewing figures in the UK and the US have declined by 3 to 4% a year on average since 2012 – directly comparable to the decline in print readership seen by newspapers during the 2000s. The decline is particularly pronounced amongst younger people. Meanwhile, the rise of video- sharing sites, video-on-demand services and social media-integrated video means that younger audiences watch more and more online video. “There are no reasons to believe that a generation that has grown up with and enjoys digital, on- demand, social and mobile video viewing across a range of connected devices will come to prefer live, linear, scheduled programming tied to a single device just because they grow older,” says Dr Nielsen, Director of Research at the Reuters Institute. “This raises wider questions about how sustainable the broad public interest role broadcast news has played in many countries over the last 60 years is.” What’s the solution? At the moment, says the report, there is no one clear way forward, but the key is to recognise the challenge now, rather than maintaining a defensive, pragmatic approach. -

STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2008 No. 211 COPYRIGHT The Copyright (Certification of Licensing Scheme for Educational Recording of Broadcasts) (Educational Recording Agency Limited) (Revocation and Amendment) Order 2008 Made - - - - 31st January 2008 Coming into force - - 1st April 2008 The Secretary of State certified, for the purposes of section 35 of, and paragraph 6 of Schedule 2 to, the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (“the Act”)(a), a licensing scheme to be operated by The Educational Recording Agency Limited (company number 2423219) (“the ERA”) set out in the Copyright (Certification of Licensing Scheme for Educational Recording of Broadcasts) (Educational Recording Agency Limited) Order 2005(b) (“the 2005 Order”) and a licensing scheme to be operated by the ERA set out in the Copyright (Certification of Licensing Scheme for Educational Recording of Broadcasts) (Educational Recording Agency Limited) Order 2007(c) (“the 2007 Order”). The ERA has informed the Secretary of State that the scheme certified in the 2005 Order will cease to be operated on 1st April 2008 and has applied to the Secretary of State for the 2007 Order to be amended in accordance with Article 3 of this Order. REVIEW OF OPERATIONS OVERVIEW Turnover from continuing operations was £964.6 million (2001 restated: £1,040.1 million).The decline is primarily due to a reduction of £35.7 million in advertising revenues. Operating costs are under tight control. A stringent review last year identified £45.0 million in annual savings in the second full year, including Carlton’s share of savings in ITV. Delivery is well ahead of target with savings of £54.2 million achieved by end-September. Net interest charges were £12.0 million (2001: £35.6 million).The fall is attributable to lower effective interest rates and lower net interest bearing balances. Amounts written off investments were £8.2 million (2001: nil). Profit on continuing operations before taxation was £32.3 million (2001: loss of £39.6 million). ITV has extended its rights to show Bond movies on TV. BROADCASTING Turnover was £799.5 million (2001: £830.1 million) and profits were £67.4 million (2001: £83.3 million). Carlton’s television advertising revenues recovered to show an increase of 2 per cent in the second half of the year, compared to the same period last year. After a difficult first six months, year-on-year growth resumed in May. -

New News, Future News The challenges for television news after Digital Switch-over An Ofcom discussion document Publication date: 26 June 2007 Foreword The prospects for television news in a fully digital era are a central element in any consideration of the future of public service broadcasting (PSB). News is regarded by viewers as the most important of all the PSB genres, and television remains by far the most used source of news for UK citizens. The role of news and information as part of the democratic process is long established, and its status is specifically underpinned in the Communications Act 2003. This report, New News, Future News, is one of a series of Ofcom studies focussing on individual topics identified in the PSB Review of 2004/05, and further discussed in the Digital PSB report of July 2006. The others are on the provision of children’s programmes and on the prospects for a Public Service Publisher. All three studies are linked to areas of particular PSB concern for the future, and set out a framework for policy consideration ahead of the next full PSB review. Other Ofcom work of relevance includes the review of Channel 4’s funding. It has not been the role of this report to come up with solutions, and no policy recommendations are put forward. Instead, the report examines the environment in which television news currently operates, and assesses how that may change in future (after digital switch-over and, in 2014, the expiry of current Channel 3 and Channel 5 licences) . It identifies particular issues that will need to be addressed and suggests some specific questions that may need to be answered. -

Highlights 2011 financial year: Revenues: up $206.5 million (5.2%) to $4.21 billion in 2011 due to sustained growth in the Telecommunications segment.
