Announcement of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize Sep 25, 2017 09:00 CEST Announcement of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize The Norwegian Nobel Committee will announce who recevies this year's Nobel Peace Prize on Friday 6 October at 11.00. The press conference takes place at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Henrik Ibsens gate 51, Oslo. It is open for media only and accreditation is required. Accreditation information available here. For all media related requests regarding the announcement, please contact Kristin Wiktorson at [email protected], For anyone not accredited, there is a possibility to watch the announcement live on a big screen at the Nobel Peace Center in the City Hall Square, Oslo. Interested members of the public will be present, and are likely to accept interview requests if you are after the public's reactions to the announcement. Wikimedia Norway is also present with a group of writers to conduct a live update about the new laureate(s) on Wikipedia. The annoncement will also be stramed live on our website. Note: On Friday 6 October, at about 14.00 CET, the blue room called the Nobel Field at the Nobel Peace Center will be updated and the new Peace Prize laureate will be included. Photo-op and possibilities for interviews with the Peace Center staff. The work on the 2017 Peace Prize Exhibition will start immidiately after the announcement. If any media would like to follow the Nobel Peace Center crew during these first intense hours, please contact to schedule. ___________________ Saturday 7 October, the Nobel Peace Center celebrates the new Peace Prize laureate(s) with a rich program and an open day with free entry for all visitors. The new laureate(s) is presented in our permanent exhibitions The Nobel Field and The Electronic Wallpapers. Junior Experts from the Children’s Peace Club talk about the new laureate to visitors in the morning. Some of these children may be available to the press if any requests arise. There will be guided tours in Norwegian and English throughout the day. A lecture about the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize laureate(s) will be held by the secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Olav Njølstad at 13:00 (in English) and 14:00 (in Norwegian) A presentation of this year's Nobel artist and unveiling of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize Diploma takes place before the lecture at 13.00. Here the whole family can share their thoughts about the climate crisis and be inspired to make changes in their own lives. “Climate change is one of the largest challenges of our time. In many places in the world we see how environmental disasters and climate change lead to human suffering and contribute to the strengthening of differences, unrest and conflict. With the KlimaLab exhibition we hope to get the audience involved in the climate cause and give them the belief that they can contribute to a solution,” says Liv Tørres, Executive Director of the Nobel Peace Center. The ground floor of the Nobel Peace Centre is filled with trees and plants, and tactile art installations to touch and enter into. The exhibition is inspired by the founder of the Nobel Peace Prize, Alfred Nobel, and his idea of acting “for the greatest benefit to humankind”, as well as the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Wangari Maathai, Al Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, who were all awarded the prize for their work to combat climate change. Next to these Peace Prize Laureates new voices in the debate on climate change are given space in the exhibition. On Friday the 22nd March, 40.000 young people gathered all over Norway to protest about the lack of political action to combat climate change.

    Telenor in Nobel Peace Center partnership Telenor has entered into a partnership agreement with The Nobel Peace Center. "Communication, in the broadest sense of the word, expresses the basic idea of the Peace Center. We are therefore very pleased to have an international communications partner like Telenor as part of our team," said Geir Lundestad, Director of The Norwegian Nobel Institute and Chairman of The Nobel Peace Center. Telenor is to contribute NOK 14 million over a four-year period to the Peace Center, which is due to open in June 2005. The contribution will consist of supply of services provided and a sponsorship fee. Director Geir Lundestad and Jon Fredrik Baksaas, CEO of Telenor signed the agreement at The Norwegian Nobel Institute on Thursday. "The global focus and effort for peace and communication, which is the basic idea of the partnership agreement with The Nobel Peace Center is entirely in keeping with Telenor's aim of contributing to a positive social development," said Telenor CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas. "Moreover, the agreement is a considerable source of inspiration for our employees as well as an important contribution to our effort of strengthening Telenor's profile both in Norway and abroad."
