Calvert Green Newsletter Summer 2012 CalvertCalvert GreenGreen NewsletterNewsletter SummerSummer 20122012 Calvert Green Community Association Registered Charity No: 1104354 1 CGCA Welcome Calvert Green Community Association Welcome to the Summer Chairman Kathy Moore 730292 [email protected] & edition of the CGCA 300 Club [email protected] Newsletter Treasurer John Hopkins 733509 [email protected] Hello everyone, & Hopefully Summer will soon arrive and shine on us for our next major event which is our Vice Chair [email protected] Summer Fayre on Sunday 15th July 2012. Since our last newsletter things have been as busy as ever in Calvert Green. The Easter Egg Hunt went ahead which was organised by the Claydons and Swan Team. I would like to thank Secretary Stefanie Bone 730691 [email protected] everyone who put a great deal of effort in to this event to allow the younger members of Calvert Green to enjoy an afternoon of hunting, creating and generally having fun. The Music Quiz was, as ever, a great success with the Hall to capacity as people enjoyed Events Karen Ford 733286 [email protected] socialising, pitting their wits against opposing teams and eating fish and chips and drinking. Our grateful thanks go to Peter Ford and Adrian Bone who proved to be a wonderful “double act” in organising and presenting the quiz. The CGCA organised an open afternoon in May when a good number of residents popped in Hall Jenny Blakeley 733584 [email protected] for a cuppa and chat to talk about their needs for the community and to get to know some Bookings of the CGCA Committee. We hope to hold another similar afternoon in the future. The Queen’s Jubilee, as you know, was not celebrated as a community event due to the fact Newsletter Jenny Blakeley 733584 [email protected] that out of our committee of five, four were on half term holiday. This, coupled with the fact that the Summer Fayre is looming fast on the horizon, meant that we were unable to spread ourselves around to cover this event. However, the Parish Council were kind enough to donate a quantity of bunting which we distributed on a first come first served basis to residents who made good efforts in decorating their homes. This coupled with the efforts of some volunteers who kindly placed Union flags and George flags on lamp posts through the centre of the village have helped keep this period of time celebrated. Special thanks to Posts available Allan Brough who put these flags up for us. If you have enjoyed any of the events laid on by the CGCA you The Euro football finals were screened in the Hall and I would like to thank the W.I , Lee at the Karate Club and Pip Dicey for their flexibility in moving their dates to accommodate probably have some indication of the need to have people commit- the first and second games. They were all well attended resulting in much needed funds ted to making it happen. We really need others to step in and help being raised by the CGCA bar. Thanks to those of you who came in support. keep the CGCA strong, even if you can only give a few hours of There will be three visits from the Play in the Parishes group over the Summer. In the past your time, it would be put to good use! this has been provided free of charge by AVDC but due to cut backs this now has to be partly funded. The CGCA will meet part of these costs but we would also like to thank Cat- Please contact any member of the CGCA if you are interested erpillars and C.H.Y.N.A. for their contributions in making these events possible. Next of course the Summer Fayre followed by the Olympics. Let’s hope the sun shines for all of us. 2 Looking forward to seeing you. 33 Kathy Moore, Chairman Donations for the Tombolas required please If you have any spare bottles of alcohol (full of course!), unwanted Birthday or Christmas gifts/toiletry sets etc, we would welcome all donations for this year’s Summer Fayre. Calvert Green Summer Newsletter Registered Charity No: 1104354 Hello everyone, CGCA Welcome Well it looks as though Summer may now be with us. About time I say after our prolonged Winter and Spring! We have had a quiet time since our last newsletter and the only major event we had was the Tidy Up. It went very well and was supported by a merry band of helpers who managed to find bags and bags of rubbish around the greens and roads. A huge thank you to those of you who turned out to help. On Father’s Day Tony and Lilian Pringle organised the Calvert Green Dog Show under CGCA’s umbrella. Despite the slightly inclement weather the event was well attended and received. Many thanks to Tony & Lilian for or- ganising this and to the WI who catered the afternoon. The whole event raised £253.00. Half of this amount has been donated to the Dogs for the Disabled charity and the other half was sent to the Bernese Carters who once again turned out for the community. The Bernese Carters have for- warded their donation to the Search Dogs for Buckinghamshire. All in all it seems that some very worthwhile causes benefitted from the afternoon. A huge thanks to all who attended and helped at the Summer Party! We hope you enjoyed the change from the Summer Fayre and liked the enter- tainment. We were all very excited about our challenge to Glastonbury and are so pleased it went well and thank goodness for the wonderful weather! We have also organised some summer events during the school holidays in conjunction with Aylesbury Vale District Council and these include the play in the villages which have been so successful in the past.
