Hours 37.5 hrs per week; Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

Salary £26,000 - £30,000 Depending on Experience

THE ROLE This role is currently undertaken by the Operations Manager and will be a new department with scope for growth in parallel with the growth of Singer Instruments. Being a Health and Safety Manager, you will own all aspects of health and safety in all areas of the business, ensuring that our organisation meets the necessary legislative obligations and drive the continuous improvement of health and safety throughout our business. You will facilitate the ongoing development of health and safety policies and practices to make sure all staff are adhering to these standards, coordinating and auditing areas of the business where responsibility and supervision is devolved to other team members. You will support the Research & Development team to ensure products meet the relevant standards required. You will own the health and safety department’s targets, improvements and budgets, reporting to the company in line with our transparent philosophy. Your Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- Promoting a positive health and safety culture throughout Singer Instruments - Developing health and safety management systems including compliance with external audits - Managing, coordinating and conducting audits, including liaising with external agencies - Creating, supporting and developing the health & safety strategy - Developing internal and external networks to allow performance to be benchmarked - Ensuring compliance with legislation and incorporate any updates in law into the health and safety policy, procedures and processes - Business risk analysis and risk assessments, including COVID-19 - Undertaking accident/incident investigations and driving robust resolutions

- Reducing the number of health and safety incidents to a minimum and follow correct reporting rules - Supporting other areas of the business as required

THE TEAM You will do this as a member of the Operations Team, but will work with all areas of the business, including the senior leadership, to ensure best practice. Our Headquarters encompass a Sales & Finance office, an Electro-Mechanical Assembly area, a CNC Workshop, a Bio-Laboratory and a Stores area among others. As growth occurs at Singer Instruments, you may need to recruit and select your own team in line with demand, so you will need to be a developed leader and manager or working to evolve these skills

KEY REQUIREMENTS - Credible qualifications in health and safety, including operations experience with excellent leadership skills - Excellent IT, written and verbal communication skills in order to work with, provide advice to, train, and promote excellence in Health and Safety to all staff - The ability to organise and prioritise workload - A flexible approach to working hours and a Continuous Professional Development mindset - An understanding of the regulations usually encountered on a manufacturing site such as but not limited to: - COSHH - RIDDOR - Manual Handling - Fire - IPC - DSE - Legionella - Facilities management and maintenance schedules - Tools and machinery - Waste management

BONUS REQUIREMENTS - A track record of project management - Experience of working with senior management - Familiarity of working in a multi-faceted site including CNC Workshops, Electro-Mechanical Assembly and DSE

- Experience of creating, maintaining and reaching externally audited management standards such as ISO - Appreciation of Machinery Directives and Harmonised Standards - Understanding of best practice for Laboratories with a biology focus - Expertise in leading and coordinating multi-disciplined teams and their leadership - Proficiency in implementing and supporting 5s and associated information systems - BBQ Skills!!!

QUALIFICATIONS - An industry recognised qualification such as the NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent to the same level) and we will consider individuals currently undertaking training, but passing will be a requirement of probation period sign-off - You will be expected to have or obtain accreditation/membership/chartered status of a recognised health & safety body and maintain CPD as required by said body
