WSCL Friendlies 2020 Dear all, After an intensive research campaign by your divisional representatives, we now have an almost complete record of who is prepared to do what. Buckland St Mary have not yet taken a decision, and so teams who are due to play them will have to check for themselves. Otherwise, as far as we know, the only teams to drop out are: Ashbrittle, North Curry and West Monkton in Division 1 Stogumber and Winsford in Division 2 East Huntspill 2 (and possibly Buckland St Mary) in Division 5 In addition to the list sent to you earlier, the following clubs will now NOT be free on the following dates: Div. 1: Holford 18th July, Wiveliscombe, 1st August Div. 2: East Huntspill 18th July, Timberscombe 15th and 29th August Below is a list of teams who, as far as we know, will now be without opponents on the dates given, and who may therefore wish to arrange friendlies against one another, regardless of which division they are in. It is of course possible that they will already have made arrangements (hence a few question marks), so we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the list. If you know of any changes, would you please contact any affected clubs yourself, as far in advance as possible. All the original fixtures are listed on the website, and all contact numbers can also be found there. TEAMS BELIEVED TO BE WITHOUT FIXTURES: 18 July: Div. 1 Bagborough, Bishops Hull. Div. 2 Sampford Arundel, East Huntspill. Div. 3 Carhampton. Div. 4 Culmstock(?) Brompton Ralph 2(?). Div. 5 Buckland St Mary 25 July: Div. 1 Wiveliscombe, Bishops Hull, Bridgetown. Div. 2 Sampford Arundel, Timberscombe. Div. 4 Hemyock? Fitzhead? Div. 5 O Stowey 2, Ashbrittle A, Watchet 1 August: Div. 1 Bagborough, Brompton Ralph, Bishops Hull, Holford. Div. 2 Morebath, Timberscombe. Div. 4 Taunton. Div. 5 Ashbrittle A 8 August: Div. 1 Bagborough, Bishops Hull, Bridgetown. Div. 2 Churchinford, Stoodleigh. Div. 4 Fitzhead (?), N. Newton (?), Brompton Ralph 2 (?). Div. 5 Bishops Hull 2 15 August: Div. 1 Brompton Ralph, O Stowey, Wiveliscombe. Div. 2 E. Huntspill, Stoodleigh, Stoke St Mary. Div. 5 Wembdon 5 22 August: Div. 1 O Stowey, Holford, Bridgetown. Div. 2 Churchinford, Timberscombe. Div. 5 Roadwater 2 29 August: Div. 1 O Stowey, Bishops Hull. Div. 2 Sampford Arundel, Stoke St Mary, Roadwater. Div. 5 W. Monkton 3, Buckland St Mary 5 September: Div. 1 Bridgetown, Holford. Div. 2 Stoodleigh, Roadwater. Div. 3 Crowcombe, Lydeard St Lawrence, Minehead, Cannington, Wiveliscombe 2, North Curry Saints. Div. 4 Kilve 12 September: Only 2 matches scheduled in Div. 1, 0 in Div. 2, 1 in Div. 3, so there are plenty of options available. Div. 4 has 3 scheduled matches and Div. 5 a full programme, apart from Ashbrittle A and Bishops Hull 2. We hope all this will make it easier for you to fill your fixture list and to make the most of what is left of the season. Please note that all the ECB’s guidelines are now available from the website (our thanks to Tony and Ian Berthon), and it is essential that you study them and abide by them. The virus is still among us, and nobody wants to see someone die or be subjected to long-term illness for the sake of a game, if that can be avoided by adhering to a few sensible precautions. With best wishes from Your Committee .

  • Stone Family Documents the Stones of Chipstable, Somerset
1 STONE FAMILY DOCUMENTS THE STONES OF CHIPSTABLE, SOMERSET These family documents were found in the estate of Elizabeth Boyd Bond Evans of Cambridge, England (deceased December 2012). They were obtained at auction at Cheffins of Cambridge for John C. Stone II by Elizabeth Howard in July 2013. Most of the documents relate to descendants of Richard Stone of Clayhanger, Devon and Chipstable, Somerset, who died in 1653. Richard’s estimated date of birth is late 1570s, e.g. 1579. His will was obtained from the UK Archives and names his descendants. The will of the widow of his eldest son John (Richord Parkhouse Stone) also was obtained from the UK Archives and helps define some of Richard’s descendants. Richard was married twice. The name of his first wife, whom he married about 1600, remains unknown. Six children were born to this first marriage, of whom four married and three produced heirs. The two female lines of descent have been difficult to establish, but the lone male heir who had offspring, Emanuel Stone, had nine or ten children. The line of descent from Emanuel’s oldest son and heir, Richard Stone 1640 (baptized in Chipstable), can be traced to the present day. The absence of 16c parish records and paucity of 17c records in Chipstable and Ashbrittle (due in large part to the civil war of the 17c) have made it impossible to determine accurately the lines of Emanuel’s other eight or nine children with any accuracy. Richard’s second marriage was prior to 1640 to a woman named Eleanor (possibly Eleanor Farthinge who was born in Clayhanger in 1604).
