The CCMTA Awards Program highlights the work of outstanding individuals and organizations that support the vision and mission of CCMTA. We will be honouring this year’s recipients on Tuesday evening June 6, during the Territorial Banquet.

CCMTA’s Award Program features five categories. Three categories are determined by a competitive process approved by the CCMTA Board of Directors. These include: the Road Safety Award (new this year), the Jennie Howie Government Member Award and the Police Partnership Award. The remaining two categories—Distinguished Service Award and Sean McAlister Service Recognition Award— recognize individuals who are completing their volunteer term with CCMTA, or upon their retirement or departure from CCMTA activities.

In 2017 CCMTA renamed its Service Recognition Award to the Sean McAlister Service Recognition Award in memory of Sean McAlister. Sean served as both staff and volunteer with CCMTA at various times throughout his career. A devoted employee of CCMTA in the late 1980s and 1990s, when Sean’s career brought him to the BC provincial government in 2000, he maintained his relationship with CCMTA as a member of the Drivers and Vehicles Program Committee. A respected authority within the compliance and regulatory sector as well, more recently, Sean’s consulting work ensured he stayed connected with CCMTA at the CRA table. Sean died on August 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.

JENNIE HOWIE GOVERNMENT MEMBER AWARD Presented annually to a CCMTA member whose primary function is directly associated with the coordination, administration, regulation, and control of motor vehicle transportation and highway safety, and who has made a significant contribution to CCMTA. The Government Member award was renamed in 2006 in honour of Jennie Howie, longtime member of the RSRP Program Committee and Board of Directors.
