Nearly 1,000 Hospitals Earn Recognition by the Ratings Company Apr 07 Nearly 1,000 hospitals earn recognition by the ratings company. Henry Powderly, Managing Editor Nearly 1,000 hospitals were named either top hospitals for patient experience or patient safety on Tuesday by Denver-based healthcare ratings company Healthgrades. For its first list, Healthgrades gave 2015 Outstanding Patient Experience Awards to 452 organizations, basing the awards on the scores providers earned on their Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems surveys, which polled patients who visited the hospitals in 2013. According to Healthgrades, only the top 15 percent earned recognition, though the results did vary by region and hospital type. California, Texas and Wisconsin saw the most hospitals score awards. Hospitals need to better understand shifting drivers of satisfaction in diverse patient populations across different hospital settings,” said Chief Strategy Officer Evan Marks in a statement. Meanwhile, Healthgrades dubbed 467 hospitals top performers for their scores related to patient safety, gleaned by examining claims data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on hospital stays from 2011 to 2013. The top 10 percent earned 2015 Patient Safety Excellence Awards, Healthgrades said. See the full list of Patient Experience winners. The following list shows the 453 hospitals who earned 2015 Outstanding Patient Experience Awards by ratings agency Healthgrades based on surveys from patients who stayed at these hospitals in 2013. ALERT #24 ___________________ October 5, 2007 EMERGENCY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES PROGRAMS AND HOSPITAL EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS FOR MBHP MEMBERS AND UNINSURED CONSUMERS The following information should be communicated immediately to other appropriate staff in your organization. The Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership (MBHP) is the company that manages behavioral health (mental health and substance abuse) services for MassHealth’s Primary Care Clinician (PCC) Plan Members*. Additionally, MBHP is contracted with the Department of Mental Health to manage most of the Emergency Services Programs (ESPs) across the Commonwealth. In that role, MBHP is issuing this Alert to hospital Emergency Departments (EDs), MBHP network providers, and other interested stakeholders in order to provide clarification and guidance relative to the management of behavioral health emergencies in the ED setting. More specifically, this Alert delineates the roles and responsibilities of the Emergency Services Programs (ESPs) and describes an individual’s progression through this system, with a goal of expediting his or her movement through the hospital ED and into acute behavioral health services, as medically necessary. ESPs function as a “safety net” for all citizens of the Commonwealth regardless of age, payer, or ability to pay. It is important to note that the policies and procedures in this Alert applies to those populations for whom the ESPs are contracted with MBHP to serve, which includes MBHP members, MassHealth (non-MCO enrolled) Members, uninsured consumers, and DMH consumers. However, it is also important to note that MassHealth also requires the four Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) contracted with MassHealth to utilize the ESP system for emergency behavioral health services for MassHealth MCO enrolled Members.

  • Healthgrades Hospital Quality Clinical Excellence Report 2013: Announcing the Top 5% Hospitals in the U.S
Healthgrades Hospital Quality Clinical Excellence Report 2013: Announcing the Top 5% Hospitals in the U.S. for 2013 We are pleased to announce the 262 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ recipients for 2013. This recognition places these hospitals in the top 5% of hospitals in the nation. During the 2013 study period (2009-2011), 262 hospitals showed superior performance in caring for patients in the Medicare population, as measured by objective clinical outcomes (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications) across at least 19 of 27 of the most common inpatient conditions and procedures. These hospitals are recognized as Healthgrades 2013 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence recipients (see Tables 2 and 3). These 262 hospitals stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. While many hospitals have specific areas of expertise and high-quality outcomes in certain areas, these hospitals exhibit comprehensive high-quality care across clinical specialties. All Hospitals Are Not Created Equal: Hospital Choice Matters As shown in the American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2013: Healthgrades Report to the Nation, we’ve seen considerable improvement in hospital quality over time. However, quality disparities among hospitals persist, and hospital quality can vary *Statistics are based on Healthgrades analysis of significantly even within local service areas. MedPAR data for years 2009 through 2011 and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients. Hospital choice can strongly influence patients’ odds of experiencing complications or emerging from their procedure alive and well. Study findings showed that there is wide variation in hospital quality across conditions and procedures: specific hospitals perform better than others in specific conditions and procedures.
