Beck Nach Fast Sechs Jahren Mit Neuem Material US-Musiker Kündigt Für Februar Eine Neue Platte An

Beck's Song Reader: an Unbound Music Book Abstract Résumé
1/27/2017 Beck’s Song Reader: An Unbound Music Book | Érudit | Mémoires du livre v8 n1 2016 | Zone clients Mémoires du livre / Studies in Book Culture Volume 8, numéro 1, automne 2016 La littérature sauvage / Literature Unbound Sous la direction de Denis SaintAmand Direction : MariePier Luneau (directrice) Éditeur : Groupe de recherches et d’études sur le livre au Québec ISSN : 1920602X (numérique) DOI : 10.7202/1038035ar Article Beck’s Song Reader: An Unbound Music Book Kate Maxwell Abstract The pop/alternative musician Beck created a stir in the music world when he released his 2012 “album” Song Reader as a book compilation of individual pieces of sheet music. This included a guide to reading music notation, together with an introduction describing the work’s intentions and inviting readers to perform their own versions of the songs. Two years later, a recording of the songs interpreted by various wellknown artists was issued. The video to one of these, Jack White’s interpretation of “I’m Down,” focuses entirely on the presentation of the track in the bookalbum Song Reader: the musical notation, lyrics, and artwork. Using multimodal discourse analysis together with Derrida’s notion of grammatology, this article will analyse both the bookalbum and the “I’m Down” video. If the Derridean violence of writing brings speech under its over arching wings, then notation can be seen as dominating musical discourse: the habit of not notating popular music is in fact a (usually subconscious) semiotic decision to differentiate from the (classical/art) music tradition. -

FREE ELLIOTT SMITH PDF Autumn De Wilde | 224 pages | 09 Nov 2007 | CHRONICLE BOOKS | 9780811857994 | English | California, United States Either/Or (album) - Wikipedia N o one could honestly claim to be surprised when they heard Elliott Smith had committed suicide. Plenty of folky singer-songwriters have a reputation for making introspective, melancholy music, but none quite like Smith's. He was the "unhappiest man in the land", a singer you didn't so much Elliott Smith to as commiserate with. According to his friend, singer Mary Lou Lord, Smith was the heir to the tragic mantle of her former boyfriend, Kurt Cobain: he was making records for "the sad kids". His gloom was more than sulky posturing: when Smith sang about heroin addiction or alcoholism or depression, he was singing about things he had experienced first-hand. The cover of his second, eponymous solo album, released in Elliott Smith, features a grainy image of bodies Elliott Smith from a high building. As one tribute article wryly noted, you couldn't say that Smith didn't warn you. That is Elliott Smith to say the circumstances of his death were not shocking. Last year, just before lunchtime on Tuesday, October 21, Elliott Smith apparently had an argument with his girlfriend, fellow musician Jennifer Chiba, at their home in Silverlake, Los Angeles. As the row got worse, Smith threatened to commit suicide. Like most of Smith's close friends, Chiba was used to him making melodramatic threats about ending his life. After all, this was a man who, when he decided to relocate from Portland to Brooklyn in the late s, bade farewell to his Oregon friends by informing them that it was likely he would never see them again because he was "probably going to kill himself". -
The Extent to Which American Children's Folk Songs Are Taught by General Music Teachers Throughout the United States
THE EXTENT TO WHICH AMERICAN CHILDREN’S FOLK SONGS ARE TAUGHT BY GENERAL MUSIC TEACHERS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES By MARILYN J. WARD A DISSERTATION PRESENTED TO THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA 2003 Copyright 2003 by Marilyn J. Ward ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I would like to thank God for His help in this endeavor. I believe that He was responsible for the good response rate and provided direction, assistance, and wisdom along the way. I would also like to thank my mother, Dr. Iva Maybelle Hollingshead, who funded and personally delivered, retrieved, and processed the information from the majority of elder study instruments. Not only did my mother physically and financially assist in this project, she has also been a constant source of inspiration and encouragement throughout my life. I owe a great debt of gratitude to both my mother and father, who are some of the most wonderful people I have ever known. Sincere appreciation is expressed to the members of my supervisory committee for their insight, wisdom, and wonderful suggestions for improvement through the many stages of this research study: Dr. Russell Robinson (chairman, music education); Dr. Charles Hoffer (music education); Dr. Budd Udell (theory/composition); and Dr. David Young (directing/theatre). Many thanks are extended to Brad Ward, my husband, who has ever so graciously funded this project, in its enormity. iii TABLE OF CONTENTS page ACKNOWLEDGMENTS ................................................................................................
