Turkey's First National Ship Launched Türk‹Ye’N‹N ‹Lk M‹Ll‹ Gem‹S‹ Den‹Ze ‹Nd‹ SHIPBUILDING // GEM‹ ‹NfiA TURKEY'S FIRST NATIONAL SHIP LAUNCHED TÜRK‹YE’N‹N ‹LK M‹LL‹ GEM‹S‹ DEN‹ZE ‹ND‹ 'Heybeliada', the first of a series of 12 ships planned to be built within the scope of the National Ship (MILGEM) Project was launched at Istanbul Shipyard Command in Pendik on September 27, 2008, which is at the same time the 927th anniversary of the Turkish Naval Forces Command and the 470th anniversary of the Preveze Naval Victory. The day also witnessed the launch of the minesweeper named TCG Akcay, command transfer ceremony for TCG Inebolu, and the first-weld ceremony for 'Buyukada', the second ship of the MILGEM project. Milli Gemi Projesi kapsam›nda yap›m› planlanan 12 geminin ilki “Heybeliada”, 27 Eylül 2008 tarihinde Pendik’te ‹stanbul Tersanesi Komutanl›¤›’nda denize indirildi.
