Unconventional oil & gas in China And Several main Basins Guo Tianxu China Geological Survey National Coordinators Meeting & Workshop (UCM7) 28-30 March 2017, Bangkok, Thailand Outline 1. Unconventional oil & gas in China 2. Several main Basins Unconventional oil and gas in China n In recent years, with the increasing demand for oil and gas, unconventional oil and gas resources are becoming more and more important in the world. n China possess abundant unconventional resource, attach importance to unconventional petroleum exploration. n Currently , big progress is made in coalbed methane, shale gas, and so on. Coalbed methane in China u Total Coalbed methane resources: 300 trillion m3 , distributed in 45 coal basins of five regions . u Currently, commercial CBM development has succeeded in Qinshui Basin. Shale gas in China u Shale gas resource is about 31 trillion m3, it is mainly distributed in the southern, middle and western China . u Now, shale gas commercial development has succeeded in Fulin district of Chongqing province. Fulin Outline 1. Unconventional oil & gas in China 2. Several main Basins History of petroleum Exploration in China The China geologist had found a series petroliferous basin , and then established many big oilfields in China. In 1959, the Daqing Junggar basin Song-Liao basin oil field was found in Tarim basin Song-Liao basin. OrdS basin BoHai gulf basin In 1960, the Karamay oil field was found in Janghan basin Junggar basin. Sichuan basin In 1961, the Shengli oil field was found in Bohai gulf basin. Brief introduction of main petroliferous basin in China SongLiao basin u Songliao basin is a depression b asin located in northeast China. u Area 260 thousands km2 . u Oil resource: 11 billion ton. u gas resource: 2.3 trillion m3 . u Developed two sets of high qual ity source rock. 坳陷 断陷 Bohai gulf basin u Bohai gulf basin, lies in the middle of china, is a strike-slip basin which formed in Cenozoic. u Area is over 0.73 million km2 . u Oil resource: 30 billion ton, Bohai gulf basin u Gas resource: 1.5 trillion m3 . u Shahejie Fm is high quality source rock. Tarim basin Tarim basin in located in the northwest of China, oil resources is 10.6 billion tons, and the gas resource is 10 trillion m3 . In 2013, the Tarim oil field petroleum production reached to 23 million tons. Tarim basin is the largest petroliferous basin which has the most exploration potential.
