WELCOME Red Earth Yoga Center’s 200-hour RYT program is open to all students who would like to become teachers or deepen their knowledge and practice of yoga. We believe that the teaching of yoga is both a science and an art and have created our curriculum accordingly. Our comprehensive program will provide participants the knowledge, practice and experience to become innovative, dynamic, inspiring, well-versed yoga teachers ready to teach from day one. Our program follows the Guidelines and Red Earth Yoga Center is a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with Yoga Alliance. Upon completion of the program, trainees receive a 200-hour Red Earth Yoga Center Teaching Training Certification, enabling them to become Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT 200) with the National Yoga Alliance.

RED EARTH YOGA CENTER MISSION STATEMENT Red Earth Yoga Center Teacher Training was created to provide quality instruction of Yoga Instruction in a way that will be fun, transformative, inspirational and creative. Our goal is to assist others in creating flourishing yoga communities and teaching that yoga is a way of life on and off the mat.

PHILOSOPHY At Red Earth Yoga Center, we are proud to offer excellent instruction with high quality, friendly, accessible yoga classes to all. By offering workshops and Teacher Training, we are committed to building a welcoming and inspiring community.

1 HISTORY The Red Earth Yoga Center Teacher Training program was developed in 2015-2016 by Waleah Norton, Red Earth Yoga Center owner and director. The school’s curriculum follows the Yoga Alliance guidelines and is a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with Yoga Alliance. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a Certificate of Completion and can apply for registration with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level (RYT-200).

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION Our Teacher Training program meets the minimum standards described by Yoga Alliance to become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) at the 200-hour level. Yoga Alliance requires 180 contact (class room) hours and 20 non-contact hours. Red Earth Yoga Center Teacher Training is comprised of 224 hours of contact study and 65 non-contact hours of homework and self study. A certificate of completion is awarded upon satisfactory completion of all contact and non- contact hours. Contact hours are earned through regular attendance, and non-contact hours are substantiated by completion of all required written assignments.

There is plenty of free parking provided in the lot and on the street. For students enrolled in training, all group classes and workshops are included from the first day of training until program graduation date.

ADMISSIONS & ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS It is desired that applicants be 18 years of age. However, exceptions will be considered for individuals meeting other requirements. To be considered for the program, applicants should have a regular yoga practice and have practiced yoga for at least one year. Applicants should be able to physically perform the techniques they will teach. This does not mean an applicant must perform all techniques () covered in the training, only those they will teach. Red Earth Yoga Center does not require a High School Diploma or GED for admission to its program. Red Earth Yoga Center does not honor training hours obtained from other schools of yoga nor does it give credit for applicable prior-work experience.

HOW TO APPLY To apply to the program, please contact Waleah Norton for an application and complete a $500 fee, which includes a $100 application fee and $400 deposit. For more information, visit redearthyogacenter.com/teachertraining. If accepted, the $500 fee (application fee and deposit) will count toward the student’s tuition. If rejected, the $500 fee will be refunded to the applicant. Once a student’s application is received, an interview may be scheduled with Waleah Norton. Please understand that the application to the program does not guarantee acceptance. The

2 interview process is an ideal opportunity to have any of your questions regarding the program discussed. Please submit your application early and at least two weeks prior to the start of the program, as spaces are limited and filled in order as qualified applications are approved. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by email or telephone call.

PROGRAM CURRICULUM Red Earth Yoga Center Teacher Training Curriculum includes five program disciplines. The full program consists of 289 hours, 224 hours are considered “contact hours” and 65 are considered “non-contact.” As defined by Yoga Alliance, a contact hour is a classroom hour in the physical presence of a faculty member. Non-contact hours are reading and homework assignments.

TECHNIQUES & TRAINING (T) Consists of learning how to teach and practice traditional yoga techniques, including , , kriya, mantra, , and mudra. This discipline includes 100 contact hours and 10 non-contact hours.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY (TM) Consists of the principles of demonstration, observation, assisting, correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, the student’s process of learning and the business aspects of teaching yoga. This discipline includes 39 contact hours and 10 non-contact hours.

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY (A&P) Consists of human physical anatomy and physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.), and Yogic energy anatomy and physiology (, nadis, etc.) This discipline includes 25 contact hours and 14 non-contact hours. It includes both the study of the subject and application of its principles to yoga practice (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc.)

YOGA PHILOSOPHY/LIFESTYLE & ETHICS FOR YOGA TEACHERS (PLE) Consists of the study of yoga philosophies, yoga lifestyle and ethics for yoga teachers. This discipline includes 30 contact hours and 25 non-contact hours. The philosophy portion of the training will include the reading and discussion of ancient yoga texts. Text commentaries are discussed in a group setting to explore the core philosophies of Yoga and how they can be applied to everyday life (“off of the ”). Students are encouraged to explore their own personal connection to the teaching and examining the integration of yogic philosophy into their classes.

PRACTICUM (PR) Consists of practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and hearing/giving feedback. This discipline consists of 30 contact hours and six non-contact hours.

3 PROGRAM GOALS ASANA Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to perform the following asanas or guide a student into that asana. For each posture listed, the student will be able to describe how to enter and exit the posture, the benefits, cautions and contraindications; the proper alignment of and perform hand on adjustments.

PRANAYAMA & BANDHA Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to perform, guide and describe the benefits, cautions and contraindications of the and bandhas.

PRANAYAMAS Diaphragmatic, 1:1, Dirgha (Three Part), Ujjayi, Shodhana, Kapalabhati and Sama Vritti. BANDHAS Mula bandha, Uddiyana bandha and Jalandhara bandha.

MEDITATION Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to engage in a seated meditation practice and describe the benefits and cautions of these practices. Awareness Meditation, Movement Meditations, Breath (So Hum) and Japa Japa.

5 PHILOSOPHY Upon completion of the program, the student will be familiar with the eight limbs of Yoga as defined by ; the classic texts of Yoga - The Yoga Sutra; and understand the relationship between Yoga and Ayurveda.

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to correctly identify the major bones and muscles of the body, understand movement and how to prevent injuries from occurring during asana practice, understand the primary systems of the body, understand the energetic body (including the Chakras) and understand basic nutrition.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to properly sequence, construct and instruct a safe class.

PERSONAL GROWTH In addition to the skills directly related to teaching yoga, the student is likely to enhance his or her own personal yoga practice, improve communication skills, and understand personal and business ethics.

6 STUDENT PROGRESS REPORTS Book reports, a written final exam and a One-Hour Class teaching demonstration will be used to assess the Student’s understanding of the material presented. The written exam and book reports will show the student has obtained an understanding of the information presented during the training. The practicum allows the student to demonstrate he or she has learned to teach a Vinyasa Flow class in a safe and sound manner. The written exam will cover: Teaching Methodology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Yoga Philosophy/Lifestyle and Ethics for Yoga Teachers. Scores of 70% correct or higher will constitute passing the exam. The written exam will be handed out sometime prior to the last weekend and will be due within two weeks of the last class session. Corrected exams will be returned within two weeks of completing the exam. A practical exam will cover Teaching Techniques and be graded pass/fail. It will occur during the final weekend of the training. Within two weeks of completing the written exam and practical exam, students will be notified in writing regarding their certification status. Three written book reports will be required. The books will be the students’ choice from the field of yoga and wellness. Book reports will be graded pass/fail and are due by the end of the training. For each book report, please: 1. Write a one-two paragraph overview/synopsis on the material covered. 2. Write one paragraph on each of the five most compelling (to you) points of the reading. This may include topics that are most relevant in regards to your teaching (either current or future) or topics relevant to your practice or life at the present time. Students may retake exams one time and re-write book reports one time if he or she does not pass on the initial attempt, for a total of two attempts per exam or book report. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Students are expected to maintain a journal of his or her personal Sadhana (practice). Some meeting time will be devoted to journaling. Students are required to attend a minimum of one yoga class per week. If not attending classes at Red Earth Yoga Center, a teacher signature will be requested. Students enrolled in the program are welcome to attend all classes at Red Earth Yoga Center for free. Students are required to observe nine yoga classes of their choosing. Students are required to volunteer teach 10 hours at a facility (i.e., work place, gym, yoga studio, school or outreach program). A letter from the facility documenting the volunteer time is required to receive certification. Should student progress not be satisfactory at any point during the training, students will be notified immediately to schedule a meeting with Waleah Norton to discuss ways to improve performance and complete past requirements. Students may continue to attend classes regardless of their exam performance. However, they will not receive certification unless they meet the requirements stipulated below. Certification will not occur if the student fails to demonstrate safe instruction, the student fails to demonstrate understanding of the material presented, or the student violates the Code of Ethics. CERTIFICATION To receive a certificate of completion from Red Earth Yoga Center Teacher Training, students must pass all exams, complete all book reports satisfactorily and meet attendance requirements. At that point, students are eligible to apply for Yoga Alliance 200-Hour Recognition. See “Graduation Requirements” for definition of successful program completion. Student Records are maintained at Red Earth Yoga Center in computer and paper files. The records maintained include the application, book report and exam completion, attendance records and a copy of the Certificate of Completion. Records will be stored for a period of seven years from the date of graduation. Records are private, and students must contact Red Earth Yoga Center in writing to obtain records or a replacement graduation certificate. Records will only be sent to the participant. There is a $25 fee for replacement certificates.

7 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Graduates will meet the program requirements as outlined in this catalog. In order to receive a Certificate of Completion, the student is required to have 180 contact hours and a minimum of 20 non-contact hours. Red Earth Yoga Center Teacher Training program staff is available to fulfill deficit contact hours. Red Earth Yoga Center does not issue Yoga Alliance Certification. Red Earth Yoga Center only issues the 200-hour Teacher Training Certificate that qualifies you to register with Yoga Alliance.

TUITION & FEES Tuition for the entire course is $2,900. Everything students need is for the course is included in tuition cost besides a notebook and writing utensils for note taking. We offer two payment options. Please make all checks payable to Red Earth Yoga Center. Choice 1 – Register. Pay full amount ($2,900). The $100 application fee will be applied to the tuition payment, as well as the $400 deposit. The remaining $2,400 is due by the Teacher Training start date. Choice 2 – Register. Pay three equal payments of $800 (totaling $2,400). The first payment will be due before or by the second session of Teacher Training; the second payment due by the fourth session; the third payment due by the sixth session. The $100 application fee and $400 deposit will be applied to the tuition payment.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY Termination date. The termination date for refund computation purposes is the last date of actual Teacher Training attendance by the student. Red Earth Yoga Center requires a notice of cancellation or withdrawal to be given by certified mail. If a student fails to properly notify Red Earth Yoga Center in writing, there will be a penalty of $25.00. Rejection. An applicant rejected by the school shall be entitled to a refund of all monies paid (application fee and deposit). Three day cancellation. All monies paid by an applicant will be refunded if requested within three days after signing an enrollment agreement and making an initial payment. Other cancellation. An applicant susequently requesting cancellation shall be entitled to a refund of all monies paid minus a registration fee of 15% of the contract price of the course, but in no event may the school retain more than $150.00. First week. For a student terminating training after entering school and starting the course of training but within the first week, the tuition retained by the school shall not exceed 10% of the contract price of the course plus $150.00 but in no event more than $350.00. After first week. For a student terminating training after one week but within the first 25% of the course, the tuition retained by the school shall not exceed 25% of the contract price of the course plus $150.00. After 25%. For a student terminating training after completing over 25% but within 50% of the course, the tuition retained by the school shall not exceed 50% of the contract price of the course plus $150.00. After 50%. A student completing more than 50% of the course is not entitled to a refund of any tuition. Special cases. In case of student prolonged illness or accident, death in the family, or other circumstances that make it impractical to complete the course, the school shall make a settlement which is reasonable and fair to both. Discontinued class. If a class is discontinued by a school while students are still enrolled in that class, and the school is still offering training in other areas, all monies paid to the school for students enrolled in the class at the time it is discontinued will be refunded to the entity legally entitled to the refund. A school will have 30 days to restart the class or pay the refund.

8 NON-DESCRIMINATION POLICY Red Earth Yoga Center Teacher Training does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, marital status, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, color, race or religion.

HOUSING Red Earth Yoga Center Yoga Teacher Training does not provide housing. If you expect to require housing, names and accommodation locations will be provided upon request.

EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE SERVICES Red Earth Yoga Center Teacher Training does not offer employment assistance services. We do offer suggestions for pursuing a career in Yoga and devote class time to the business aspects of operating a Yoga Studio. Given that yoga teaching is often a part-time endeavor and that other students are participating for the purpose of deepening their own individual practice, the school does not partake in any formal measurement of program success.

CATALOGUE CHANGES Red Earth Yoga Center Teacher Training reserves the right to make changes or revisions to this catalog. Every effort will be made to ensure the accuracy of information contained in this document. However, class topics for specific dates and times may be changed to accommodate teacher scheduling.

STUDENT CONDUCT Ethics are at the very core of yoga and living a yogic lifestyle. Therefore, this topic is taken very seriously at Red Earth Yoga Center Teacher Training. The ethics statement outlines our behavioral expectations. Please review the statement and be familiar with its contents. During the program the importance of ethics will be discussed several times. Students are expected to follow all school rules and policies as outlined in the catalog. Students are expected to behave as mature adults. Any student that is disruptive may be terminated from the program at the School’s discretion. Disruptive behaviors include, but are not limited to: chronic tardiness, harassing other students, defamatory statements either oral or written about any student or teacher or the school, breach of confidentiality, possession or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol during school sessions, destruction of school property, behavior creating a safety concern, or abusive language. The school will provide a student with one written warning. Continued disruptive behavior will result in termination from the program.

ATTENDANCE To gain maximum benefit from the program attendance at all sessions is highly recommended. If you anticipate missing class sessions, please discuss this during your interview. Formal attendance will be conducted for each class. Please arrive 15 minutes early to adequately prepare for the class. If a student does miss a class, they must meet with the class instructor(s) to develop and agree on a plan to learn the missed content and fulfill the required hours. It is to the Student’s benefit that all missed material is made up prior to the next scheduled meeting.

9 Yoga asana time missed may be made up by attending approved classes or those taught by teacher training instructors. Lectures and other classes that are unique to the training may be made up during the next training session (with the Certificate of Completion being withheld until all hours are completed) or through individual private instruction. Make-up instruction resulting from absences will be made available.

TARDINESS Please be on time and arrive at least 15 minutes early to be prepared for the start of class. Once a scheduled session commences and the Student is not present, that is considered tardy.

LEAVES OF ABSENCE Leaves of absence from the Teacher Training program are offered. If a student should have to discontinue the training and wish to continue his or her training at a future date, he or she will need to begin the program again at that time. The refund policy will apply to unused tuition. If the participant does decide to continue at a later date, and there has been an increase in tuition, the participant is responsible for the difference between the tuition when they originally started the program and the tuition when they continue the program.

PROBATION, DISMISSAL & READMITTANCE Students who are not fulfilling Student Conduct codes (see “Student Conduct” will receive a written warning. Should a second incident of conduct policy violation occur termination from the program will result. The School Director will make this decision. Students may apply for re- admission to a future class; however, admission is not guaranteed.

STUDENT COMPLAINTS Students having concerns, complaints, or suggestions are encouraged to bring them to the attention of any school personnel. A decision by the School Director on all complaints is final.
