TECHNICAL SERVICES AND OPERATIONS HANDBOOK PURPOSE OF HANDBOOK This handbook provides a summary of key policies and procedures needed to understand and be successful at your job in the Technical Services and Operations (TechOps) Department. It is also a reference guide for daily operational tasks. Every member of our team should read and be familiar with this handbook. The handbook is divided into different sections of related information. Each section consists of subsections, for ease of reference. The first section describes overall department information, what we do, and how the team is organized. It then flows into the Customer Service Center and Operations responsibilities, which serve as the central point of connectivity between the teams and ensures all service requests are triaged and solved efficiently and expediently. From there, it branches out into different areas of responsibility, with workflow processes and standard operating procedures. The back sections are reference material, including a phone directory and floor plans. Introduction On successful completion of this unit you will be able to identify the four different categories that events fit into. You will have an understanding of the different types of challenges that can be expected and overcome in all kinds of events. You will also be given a brief history of events and how some of them have evolved into the extravaganzas that are broadcast internationally on our TVs. This unit will also look into a number of everyday events, while exploring the history of some and tips on how to plan them successfully. On completion of this unit you should now have a clearer understanding of Festivals and Events. They are unique leisure and cultural experiences as powerful motivators of community pride and development. Festivals and events can provide a sense of authenticity and uniqueness especially when based on inherent and indigenous values. Defining Events An event can have a specific purpose and a focussed outcome, for example to mark an occasion – birthdays/ anniversaries; to market a product launch – product launch; to entertain - concert. It can be connected to the internet and enables the user to surf the web and use TV specific applications. The TV applications avail- able today however are more like smartphone applications shown on a big screen. Applications should take advantage of the fact that they are located on a TV and make use of TV specific content. Smart TV can engage the viewer by a more interactive way of ”watching” TV. The way TV consumers watch TV today has been analysed and a change in consumer behaviour has occurred over the last decade. The TV view- ers have gone from a relaxed TV mood with all focus directed towards the TV to a multitasking mood, using second screens for additional ac- tivities related, as well as unrelated, to what is on the TV. People want to engage in a more interactive way of watching TV and this is especially true for so called ”borderless” consumers which include people that like and owns technical devices. In this thesis a prototype of a Smart TV application that takes advantage of the content available on the TV, called Quiz TV, was developed. It engages the user in a more interactive way of watching TV and lets the user play a quiz about what is shown on the TV while watching it. -
