NATIONAL GATHERING FOR INDIGENOUS EDUCATION GUIDING THE JOURNEY: INDIGENOUS EDUCATOR AWARDS

Guiding the Journey recognizes and celebrates outstanding educators for their achievement and Canadaʼs Leading innovation in Indigenous education. These educators work hard to transform Indigenous educa- tion across Canada by advocating for updated resources and more cultural teachings in the cur- riculum; having innovative teaching practices; and helping First Nations, Inuit and Métis students Voices on Indigenous reach their full potential.

Six educators and one organization were honoured at the National Gathering in Toronto on Education November 22, 2019.

The National Gathering for Indigenous Education is a place where educators and partners can share their voices and work together to improve the educational outcomes of K-12 First Nations, Inuit and Métis students.

“That you will leave feeling inspired and ready to go back to your school with new ideas. Indspire has helped me meet other like-minded educators and has enabled me to feel less alone on my journey as a teacher. I have been to 4 national gatherings and look forward to attending many more.”

“The conference brings to light, the importance of Truth and Reconciliation and how it is import- ant to focus on attitude, not only information.”

Featuring over 35 workshops and 65 tradeshow booths, the National Gathering attracted 815 attendees who gathered to discuss emerging trends affecting Indigenous students today and learn about best practices centered around the theme: Transforming and Healing through Education.
