Release Date Mon March 13 2006. Recorded Live at Ronnie Scott’s Club, Soho, London. Label: Market Square MSMCD 141 Dist: RSK Linda Lewis: “The first time I played Ronnie Scotts it was back in the seventies. I was one of the first non jazz singers to play there so I was scared! I could hear Ella and Sarah, Annie Ross and Blossom Dearie in the walls. Their lovely music which influenced me, as did Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell, Stevie and Marvin. The last time I saw Jimi Hendrix was at Ronnie Scotts, before he died the same night. I was also scared of the club owners Ronnie & Pete but they turned out to be great blokes. The audience and ambience at Ronnie Scotts has always been fantastic and I have always loved playing there, especially the last time when this album was recorded. We included new songs like “I keep A Wish” and “I Don’t Do Don’t”; I have added the live version of “I Keep a Wish” to my new single”. Linda Lewis Musicians: Live In Old Smokey. Reg Webb on keyboards + Matt Backer on guitar + Lincoln Anderson on bass. Arran Ahmun on drums + Kwaku Dzidzornu on percussion + Paul Fredericks on vocals. Page 1 Live Dates March 2006. Wed 8. Linda Lewis has been at the forefront of the music business for three decades. Apart from her own successful singing career Linda Lewis is one of the most in demand session singers in the world. Her voice has been heard on many of the most important albums of popular music over the last thirty years. Her five octave range can be heard on albums that are now part of the history of popular music from David Bowie’s “Aladdin Sane” and Cat Stevens “Catch Bull At Four” to recordings by Jamiroquai, Oasis, Turin Brakes and Midfield General. Linda was delighted to learn that Geffen recording artist ‘Common’ sampled her recording “Old Smokey” on his track Go!, produced by Kanye West. As a teenager Linda appeared as an extra in The Beatles film “A Hard Days Night” & the classic “A Taste of Honey.” From her first release, a single in 1965 to the Glastonbury Festival of 1971 through to her triumphant return to Glastonbury she has graced the music stages of the world. Recent outings have seen Linda sell out six nights at Ronnie Scott’s along with appearances at Guildfest and The Montreaux Jazz Festival. Linda Lewis has never considered herself a ‘jazz singer’, but has always been able to hold the note where others falter, and unconsciously uses vocal devices characteristic of scat singers, but scaled up to suit Lewis’ exquisite, light, angel voice. Chrissie Murray. Page 2 Admirers of her stunning vocal work include Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton & Joni Mitchell. Linda Lewis session credits. • Dear Secretary Salazar: I Strongly
Dear Secretary Salazar: I strongly oppose the Bush administration's illegal and illogical regulations under Section 4(d) and Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act, which reduce protections to polar bears and create an exemption for greenhouse gas emissions. I request that you revoke these regulations immediately, within the 60-day window provided by Congress for their removal. The Endangered Species Act has a proven track record of success at reducing all threats to species, and it makes absolutely no sense, scientifically or legally, to exempt greenhouse gas emissions -- the number-one threat to the polar bear -- from this successful system. I urge you to take this critically important step in restoring scientific integrity at the Department of Interior by rescinding both of Bush's illegal regulations reducing protections to polar bears.
