NOW WAP's WHAT I CALL MUSIC! Submitted By: Immediate Future Friday, 20 January 2006 NOW WAP'S WHAT I CALL MUSIC! Submitted by: Immediate Future Friday, 20 January 2006 EMI Music UK puts pop stars in your pocket with launch of mobile music store wap.the-raft.com bringing together music downloads, ringtones & videos from EMI Records, Virgin Records, Parlophone, Angel and Catalogue - http://wapinfo.the-raft.com Calling all music fans… Fancy going home with a Brit tonight? EMI Music UK extends ‘The Raft’ online music store from web to mobile with the launch of its mobile music site (http://wapinfo.the-raft.com). By texting ‘GO RAFT’ to 85080 (free text from all networks), music lovers will be able to access official artist news, breaking tour dates, music downloads and video, competitions and artist approved ringtones and realtones. And if you’ve got a bit of a creative urge yourself, you’ll be able to customise your own tracks by adding beats or special features to turn them into personalised ringtones (http://wapinfo.the-raft.com). Be the envy of all your friends with your totally exclusive ringtones! You’ll be kept up to date with the latest news and featured artist areas which include Artist A-Zs and weekly competitions in anyone of the following categories; pop, urban, dance, jazz and rock. Wap.the-raft.com (http://wapinfo.the-raft.com) will also host the UK top 10 ringtones plus specialist charts like alternative and Bollywood. Competitions include money-can’t-buy exclusive artist merchandise plus album collections—such as the Brits collection; a bumper hamper of Brits-nominated albums Wap.the-raft.com provides something for every music fan—in an easy-to-find mobile music format. Guilty Pleasures will do all the digging to find you 80s classics from the likes of Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and Chesney Hawks or for mainstream supporters how about a bit of Coldplay? The Raft will also provide an oasis for fans of niche areas often hard to find on mobile musicnetwork portals: jazz, for instance, offers some stunning classic Blue Note rare-tones, while classical, comedy, TV themes and kids are also well represented…so whether it’s Chris Martin or Minder that floats your boat – get texting ‘GO RAFT’ to 85080! Danny Van Emden, Digital Media Director at EMI Music UK, comments, “In music it’s not what you know, but when you heard it that matters, so news and especially tour dates are vital to receive while you’re on the go with your mobile. We also want our buyers to be able to browse with confidence knowing that when they buy from us there are no subscriptions or hidden costs to get in the way of a great mobile music experience.” …ends/ Editor’s notes Page 1 Featured genres: Pop, Urban, Dance, Rock, Metal, Classic and Alternative A-Z featured artists include: Athlete, Audio Bully’s, Blue, Blur, Chemical Brothers, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, Gorilliaz, Kylie, Magic Numbers, Placebo, Placebo, Queen, Robbie Williams, Roll Deep, Waterbabies, Turin Brakes, UB40 Featured tones: Classical Wagner – “Ride of Valkyries” Pachelbel – “Canon Suite” Greig ‘’Hall Of mountain King” Rossini – “William Tell” Strauss Blue – “Danube” Handel – “Arrival of Queen of Sheba” Vaughan Williams “Greensleeves” Bach – “Fugue” Beethoven – “Fur Elsie” Brit – “Grendadiers Dambusters” Jazz Art Blakey – “Dat Dere” Billy Taylor “I Wish I Knew How” Donald Byrd “Blackbyrd” Grant Green “Sookie Sookie” Jimmy Smith “Back at the Chicken Shack” John Coltrane “Blue Train” Kenny Burrell “Midnight Blue” Lee Morgan “The Sidewinder” Miles Davis “Something Else” Lou Donaldson “Blues Walk” Comedy Python – “Bright Side Of Life/Nudge Nudge/Spam Song” Kids Peabo Bryson/’Regina Belle “Whole New World” Phil Harris “Everyone Wants To Be A Cat” Phil Harris – “Bear Necessities” Elton John”Circle of Life” Julie Andrews/Dick Van Dyke – “Supercalifragilistic” “How Much Is That Doggy In the Window” “Nellie the Elephant” “Old Macdonald” Page 2 “Wheels on the Bus” Remixables Liberty X – “Being Nobody’’/’’Finest Dreams” Shapeshifters – “Lola’s Theme” Brad carter—“Morning Always” MVP – “Rock Ya Body” Jamelia – “DJ’’/’’Superstar” Placebo – “This Picture” Scent – “Up and Down” Cheesey anthems Vanilla Ice – “Ice Ice Baby” MC Hammer “Can’t Touch This” Chesney Hawks – “The One and Only” Geri Halliwell – “It’s Raining Men” Nadia – “A Little Bit of Action” Tina Turner – “Simply the Best” Spandau Ballet – “Gold” Billie Piper – “Because We Want To” Cliff Richard – “Summer Holiday” Shaggy – “Bombastic” TV themes The Bill Crossroads London’s Burning Play Your Cards Right Van Der Valk Minder Strike it Lucky Tales of the Unexpected World of Sport Black Beauty About The Raft www.the-raft.com and wap.the-raft.com or text ‘go raft’ to 85080 The Raft mobile portal launches on 16th December 2005. The division, headed up by Danny Van Emden, the Digital Media Director, is responsible for the digital activity of EMI Music UK and Ireland and its individual music labels. In addition, each of EMI Music’s record labels – the Angel Music Group, EMI Records, Parlophone, Virgin and the catalogue division - has a Digital Media Manager responsible for developing artist specific new media opportunities, promotions and web presence. The Digital Media division develops many of the company’s digital cross-marketing and artist promotions; providing exclusive content; managing data capture and eCRM systems; and monetising EMI Music’s assets across the digital media. The division is also responsible for the EMI Music aggregate site, www.the-raft.com, which has been running for 11 years and won multiple awards. Working with EMI’s Commercial Digital team, Digital Media has worked with retail, brand, online and mobile organisations. This year alone, the division has agreed a number of crucial deals with high profile partners including OD2, i-Tunes, mycokemusic, Napster, Orange and Vodafone Live. Websites developed for well-known artists include Kylie.com, Kelis.co.uk, thethrills.com, nerduk.com, thedivinecomedy.com, doves.net and jamelia.com. The team is also responsible for creating artists’ web shops, selling physical products and exclusive merchandise, as well as developing mobile shops and download platforms. EMI Music UK is part of The EMI Group, one of the largest music companies in the world and listed on the London Stock Exchange. www.emimusic.co.uk Contact: Katy Howell immediate future Ltd. 0845 408 2031 [email protected] Page 4 Distributed via Press Release Wire (https://pressreleases.responsesource.com/) on behalf of Immediate Future Copyright © 1999-2021 ResponseSource, The Johnson Building, 79 Hatton Garden, London, EC1N 8AW, UK e: [email protected] t: 020 3426 4051 f: 0345 370 7776 w: https://www.responsesource.com.

  • George Michael Was Britain's Biggest Pop Star of the 1980S, First with The
George Michael was Britain’s biggest pop star of the 1980s, first with the duo Wham! and then as a solo artist. The Three Crowns played a small but significant part in his story. After Wham! made their initial chart breakthrough with the single Young Guns (Go for It) in 1982, George’s songwriting gift brought them giant hits including Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go and Freedom, and they became leading lights of the 80s boom in British pop music, alongside Duran Duran, Culture Club and Spandau Ballet, even exporting it behind the Iron Curtain. His first solo album Faith, released in 1987, sold 25 million copies, and George sold more than 100 million albums worldwide with Wham! and under his own name. George was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in Finchley, north London. His father, Kyriacos Panayiotou, was a Greek Cypriot restaurateur, and his mother an English dancer, Lesley Angold. In the late 1960s the family moved to Edgware, where George attended Kingsbury School, before they moved to the affluent Hertfordshire town of Radlett in the mid-1970s. Bushey Meads Comprehensive 1974 - 1981 George – a wimp Andy - cocksure In September 1975 a twelve year old George showed up at Bushey Meads School keen to impress as the new boy and was introduced to Andy Ridgeley who had already been impressing for a full year. Andy recalled their meeting as follows; “I remember at the time we were playing King of the Wall. As he was the new boy we goaded him into it. I was up there and he threw me off.
