Havi I've never seen anyone rubs two facts together and then jump to an unrelated conclusion quite the way George Ritzer does in The McDonaldization of Society. However, insofar as he is making a "global" argument saying that basically every commercial and other institution is fated to be "McDonaldized", he has to go beyond cherry picking. I really don't need to explain further what he means I read this because of a cute classmate of mine. This new edition has been significantly reoriented to reflect our experience of McDonaldization in the world of online consumption. It can be a little dry at times, and some examples used are quite extreme, however the ideas behind them and how they fit into this book work well together. His comments on the downward spiral of publishing based on the low pricing of ebooks, for instance, were garbage, and reflected the author's lack of knowledge in that field at the time, Amazon was artificially depressing the price of ebooks to corner the market; the prices have since rebounded and stabilized.
