This will need to be improved once the procedures for designation of Transboundary Marine Protected Area will have been finished. The Management Plan realized for the proposed Transboundary Marine Protected Area Strandzha - Igneada is structured in accordance with OSPAR Network. It is based on the IUCN model - see Salm & Clark (2000) and Kellerher (1999) for further details. Keeping in mind that none of the areas in discussion have a Management Plan implemented, this document aims to provide a common approach regarding the conservation objectives, identification of management priorities, involvement of community and sharing the social and economic resources and responsibilities in the context of sustainable development. The Plan has a short introduction in the problematic of MPAs, bringing forward the possition of IUCN General Assembly (1988) on the role of Marine Protected Areas in the protection of and sustainable utilization of the marine environment. It also provide the statement of Kelleher and Kenchington, 1991 regarding the broadly objectives of MPAs. The Plan comprises a short review of international and national legislative framework in force in Bulgaria and Turkey which adresses to protected areas issues. In the next chapters are detailed the physical, biological and cultural features of Strandzha and Igneada sites emphasizing on elements representative for conservation and protection. The part which follows approaches the strategic elements of a Management Plan, referring to effective steps necessary for proper implementation of activities and measures of protection and conservation in an integrative and sustainable way. In spite that information is orientative due to lack of knowledge or sufficient information regarding Strandzha but especially Igneada area, the objectives and goals could be taken as example for future. 8 MISIS – “MSFD Guiding Improvements in the Black Sea Integrated Monitoring System" The chapter “Administration” introduces the potential managers of the Transboundary Marine Protected Area Strandzha - Igneada in matters related to organizational structure on which any administrative body of a reservation should relay. Thus, issues such staffing, training, facilities and equipment are presented in general term, in order to facilitate a further development of the scheme based on the realities (human and financial resources) from the moment when the plan it is effectively implemented. In the next chapters referring to Monitoring and Timetable for implementation is given an example of indicators of performance measurable and adaptable used to periodical

First the 96-h LC50 of the fry were exposed to atrazine at the concentration of 24.95 ppm was determined. Then the toxicity of this herbicide on Caspian kutum fry exposed to the concentration of 12.47ppm (1/2 LC50), for four days was measured and compared with a control group. Comparison of the length, weight and condition factor showed no significant differences between atrazine exposed and control group. The concentration of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and Cl- in the whole body of fry in control and atrazine exposure groups were as the following order: Ca2+>K+> Na +> Cl- >Mg2+ and Ca2+>Na+>K+>Mg2+>Cl-, respectively. Results showed that the concentration of all these ions were higher in atrazine exposure group than control group, except for Cl-, and the only significant differences was found in Na+ concentration. Major histopathological effects of atrazine on the gills were hyperplasia and thickening of the filaments, separation of the pavement cells of the lamellae epithelium from the pillar cells and swelling of the epithelial cells. Results of the present study showed that atrazine could affect the ion composition of the body, and caused major damages in gill epithelium even at sublethal concentration and acute exposure, but had no effects on the growth parameters.

Stagno d’Al - contres 31, 98166 Messina, Italy; e-mail: [email protected] 2Via Bologna, 18/A, 87032 Amantea, Cosenza, Italy; e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT First quantitative data on mollusc assemblages from the Capo d’Armi cliff, at the south en - trance of the Strait of Messina, provided a baseline for monitoring changes in benthic biod- iversity of a crucial Mediterranean area, whose depletion might already be advanced. A total of 133 benthic taxa have been recorded, and their distribution evaluated according to depth and seasonality. Bathymetric distribution showed scanty differences between the 4-6 meters and 12-16 meters depth levels, sharing all the 22 most abundant species. Season markedly affected species composition, since 42 taxa were exclusively recorded in spring and 35 in autumn, contrary to 56 shared taxa. The occurrence of some uncommon taxa has also been discussed. The benthic mollusc assemblages, although sampled in Ionian Sea, showed a clear western species composition, in accordance with literature placing east of the Strait the bound- ary line between western and eastern Mediterranean eco-regions. BACKGROUND INFORMATION 1. On Wednesday 5 January 2011, the Bulgarian authorities confirmed a case of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in one of three wild boars shot on 30 December 2010 in the municipality of Malko Tarnovo, Burgas region, around 2 km from the border with Turkey. 2. Bulgaria has implemented the measures in the framework of Council Directive 2003/85/EC of 29 September 2003 on EU measures for the control of foot-and-mouth disease. The measures provided for in the Directive include epidemiological investigation, suspension of hunting and a ban in feeding wild animals, placing under official surveillance holdings keeping animals of susceptible species, inspection by an official veterinarian of all wild animals shot or found dead, surveillance programmes and prevention measures applicable to the holdings keeping animals of susceptible species and if necessary, in its surroundings, including the transport and movement of animals of susceptible species within, from and to the area, etc. 3. The Bulgarian authorities established a protection zone of 3 km and a surveillance zone of 10 km radius around Kosti and launched a sero-epidemiological surveillance programme within the surveillance zone and in all villages and settlements in the municipalities of Sredets, Malko Tarnovo and Tsarevo. 4.
