Information Services & Use 25 (2005) 181–195 181 IOS Press Evaluation of an Ontology-based Knowledge-Management-System. A Case Study of Convera RetrievalWare 8.0 1 Oliver Bayer, Stefanie Höhfeld ∗, Frauke Josbächer, Nico Kimm, Ina Kradepohl, Melanie Kwiatkowski, Cornelius Puschmann, Mathias Sabbagh, Nils Werner and Ulrike Vollmer Heinrich-Heine-University Duesseldorf, Institute of Language and Information, Department of Information Science, Universitaetsstraße 1, D-40225 Duesseldorf, Germany Abstract. With RetrievalWare 8.0TM the American company Convera offers an elaborated software in the range of Information Retrieval, Information Indexing and Knowledge Management. Convera promises the possibility of handling different file for- mats in many different languages. Regarding comparable products one innovation is to be stressed particularly: the possibility of the preparation as well as integration of an ontology. One tool of the software package is useful in order to produce ontologies manually, to process existing ontologies and to import the very. The processing of search results is also to be mentioned. By means of categorization strategies search results can be classified dynamically and presented in personalized representations. This study presents an evaluation of the functions and components of the system. Technological aspects and modes of opera- tion under the surface of Convera RetrievalWare will be analysed, with a focus on the creation of libraries and thesauri, and the problems posed by the integration of an existing thesaurus. Broader aspects such as usability and system ergonomics are integrated in the examination as well. Keywords: Categorization, Convera RetrievalWare, disambiguation, dynamic classification, information indexing, information retrieval, ISO 5964, knowledge management, ontology, user interface, taxonomy, thesaurus 1.

ISO/TC46 (Information and Documentation) liaison to IFLA Annual Report 2015 TC46 on Information and documentation has been leading efforts related to information management since 1947. Standards1 developed under ISO/TC46 facilitate access to knowledge and information and standardize automated tools, computer systems, and services relating to its major stakeholders of: libraries, publishing, documentation and information centres, archives, records management, museums, indexing and abstracting services, and information technology suppliers to these communities. TC46 has a unique role among ISO information-related committees in that it focuses on the whole lifecycle of information from its creation and identification, through delivery, management, measurement, and archiving, to final disposition. *** The following report summarizes activities of TC46, SC4, SC8 SC92 and their resolutions of the annual meetings3, in light of the key-concepts of interest to the IFLA community4. 1. • FS209E and ISO Cleanroom Standards
FS209E and ISO Cleanroom Standards Before global cleanroom classifications and standards were adopted by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the U.S. General Service Administration’s standards (known as FS209E) were applied virtually worldwide. However, as the need for international standards grew, the ISO established a technical committee and several working groups to delineate its own set of standards. FS209E contains six classes, while the ISO 14644-1 classification system adds two cleaner standards and one dirtier standard (see chart below). The "cleanest" cleanroom in FS209E is referred to as Class 1; the "dirtiest" cleanroom is a class 100,000. ISO cleanroom classifications are rated according to how much particulate of specific sizes exist per cubic meter (see second chart). The "cleanest" cleanroom is a class 1 and the "dirtiest" a class 9. ISO class 3 is approximately equal to FS209E class 1, while ISO class 8 approximately equals FS209E class 100,000. By law, Federal Standard 209E can be superseded by new international standards. It is expected that 209E will be used in some industries over the next five years, but that eventually it will be replaced internationally by ISO 14644-1. • Survey Concerning Citation Practices in Industrial Property Offices
HANDBOOK ON INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION Ref.: Examples and IPO practices page: 7.9.1.0 SURVEY CONCERNING CITATION PRACTICES IN INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY OFFICES Editorial note by the International Bureau 1. A survey “Citation Practices in Patent Offices” commissioned by the Standards and Documentation Working Group (SDWG) of the Standing Committee on Information Technologies (SCIT) in its fourth session, held in January 2004, was prepared by the Citation Practices Task Force (see document SCIT/SDWG/4/14, paragraph 78). The Task Force was convened to clarify the different practices by industrial property offices regarding the difficulties in citing specific parts of the description of the invention text in a patent document. 2. At its ninth session, held in February 2008, the SDWG approved (see document SCIT/SDWG/9/12, paragraph 30) the publication of the summary of responses to the survey “Citation Practices in Patent Offices” in Part 7 of the WIPO Handbook. Furthermore the SDWG mandated the Task Force to develop an extended survey questionnaire to further determine the citation practices of industrial property offices (see document SCIT/SDWG/9/12, paragraph 32). The extended survey prepared by the Task Force was issued as WIPO Circular C.SCIT 2651 on May 9, 2008. 3. The SDWG, at its tenth session, held in November 2008, approved (see document SCIT/SDWG/10/12, paragraph 47) the publication of “Citation Practices in Industrial Property Offices” in Part 7 of the WIPO Handbook, replacing the previous survey concerning “Citation Practices in Patent Offices”, which has been moved to the Archives. 4. The current document summarizes the results of the extended survey, the second version.
