Got appointed in KFUPM Saudi Arabia) Science Students Advising (2004 – To date) Advising to students at SQU about academic matters is an integral part of university teaching and learning. In the College of Science, the advising is done primarily for pre major students. This involves a great effort because students are spread over different disciplines in the College. I have been advising around 70 pre-major students of College of Science. All curriculum, timetabling and choice of courses related advising and help to the students has been my responsibility. I believe I have performed my advising duties to great benefit of the students.

Coordination of Courses Teaching management has a great significance in the quality teaching and learning. It becomes more important and effective in case of multi-section courses. My main contribution has been coordination of senior level courses as well as multi-section courses having large student registration. I coordinated MATH6011: Topics in Mathematical Methods, MATH5574: Transform Methods, MATH6013: Theory of Ordinary Equations (three times), MATH4474: Introduction to Partial Differential Equations (five times), MATH4174: Differential Equations and Applications for Engineers (eight times) and MATH3171: Linear Algebra and Multivariate Calculus for Engineers (three times). As a coordinator of multi-section courses (MATH4174 and MATH3171):  I had to manage courses of more than 300 registrations. The main duties in this capacity were: (i) preparing the course outline; (ii) organizing course team meetings; (iii) conducting exams in collaboration with course team; (iv) preparing the final results. My coordination went very well. The colleagues as well as students appreciated my efforts. I believe the performance of students in these courses has improved during my coordination.  I have employed the conventional teaching as well as IT enabled services through MOODLE in the courses I have taught/coordinated

SCHOLARSHIP My main research work is in the field of General Relativity besides some work on the solution of differential equations by Lie point symmetries. During Ph D I worked on spherically symmetric space-times. The Einstein equations equate geometry of the space-time to its matter contents. Most of the well known solutions are found by putting constraints either on the matter or on the geometry of the manifold or sometimes on the both. All known spherically symmetric solutions: the Schwarzschild vacuum metric, Bertotti-Robinson metrics, Robertson-Walker metrics, Einstein metric, deSitter, anti-deSitter and Minkowski metrics of constant curvature, appeared in literature at different times in different contexts. The question that I raised in my Ph D thesis was is there any unified approach to find all these metrics and if possible can one go beyond it to get more metrics? For this the most general spherically symmetric metric was considered with three arbitrary functions of two variables. It is known that the equations of Killing relate the isometries and the corresponding metrics of a space-time manifold. I used these equations by putting the metric coefficients of the most general spherically symmetric metric in the equations. Then I asked: what are the metrics which admit higher than the minimal symmetry? The problem was then reduced to determining seven unknown functions: four functions (components of the Killing vector) of four variables and three metric coefficients of two variables from a coupled system of ten non-linear partial differential equations. The problem was solved in the thesis which recovered all known solutions besides a few more solutions. The work was published in J. Math. Phys. and Nuovo Cimento B. This approach later became highly useful and was used by many researchers. Using the same approach the classifications of the plane symmetric and cylindrically symmetric static spacetimes were achieved. Later the spacetime manifolds were classified according to their homotheties, Ricci Collineations and curvature collineations using the same approach. I joined SQU in 2003. Since then, I am concentrating on the problems: 1) completing the work, being done in publication No.12, which is the main work in the field of Ricci Collineations for spherically symmetric manifolds. For this I travelled twice to Aberdeen to discuss the global 11

CV M. Ziad (SQU)

methods being used by Professor Graham Hall and invited him once in SQU. The work is still in progress. 2). I initiated and completed the work on Ricci Collineations of static plane symmetric Lorentzian manifolds with my MPhil student, Taha bin Farid in publication No. 22. I am constantly involved in solving this problem in a general setting. I have got successes and have presented my work in different seminars and in Marcel Grossmann meetings. I have uploaded this work now on Research Gate. 3). I initiated another work on Petrov Classification of Static Cylindrically Symmetric Lorentzian manifolds with another MPhil student, M. Khalil Rind with a view to finding perfect fluid solutions with an equation of state: energy density = c ( pressure), where c is a constant. The solution found by Evan and others restricted to certain specified values of c. The question is: can one extend the range of c? I have been able to answer this question and the work is under process f publication.
