Christy Clark Premier of British Columbia PO BOX 9041 STN PROV GOVT Victoria BC V8W 9E1 Dear Premier: Re: De‐regulating Shale Gas Development We wish to convey our deepest concerns regarding the Order in Council, approved by Lt. Governor Guichon on April 11, 2014 and deposited by Minister Mary Polak on April 14, 2014, which amends the reviewable projects regulations exempting “sweet gas plants” from the BC environmental assessment process. Although Minister Rustad was in Fort Nelson on April 13, 2014 he did not attend the BC First Nations Shale Gas‐LNG Summit convened April 14 – 16, 2014. Instead, the First Nations Chiefs and Leaders were addressed by Ministers Rustad and Coleman on April 15, 2014 through a video presentation. There was not any mention of the BC Government’s decision reflected in the Order in Council. The Chiefs and Leaders were deeply insulted and offended. The credibility and trust of the BC government Ministers were seriously questioned by the Chiefs and Leaders. We have the April 16, 2014 Declaration (attached) from the Fort Nelson First Nation and we completely support it. We also support the call by Chief Sharleen Gale and the Fort Nelson First Nation Council calling on a “Chief to Chief” meeting directly with you. We are aware of Minister Polak stating the Order in Council will be rescinded. This should be done at the earliest possible date. As well, it is absolutely important that your government not re‐introduce this de‐ regulation initiative in any form. Thank you for your attention to this important matter and we look forward to an early response.

BC Election in Rear View Mirror While the Vote Count Will Continue for Some Weeks, the Result Appears to Be in Doubt in Only a Handful of Ridings Across the Province
_________________________________________________________________________________________BC04 November 2020 BC 04 Branch Update (#9) November 2020 Hello, fellow BC04 Branch Members; BC Election in Rear View Mirror While the vote count will continue for some weeks, the result appears to be in doubt in only a handful of ridings across the province. A number of ridings in Surrey and Langley that have ‘traditionally’ been reliable Liberal seats went NDP on this occasion (see riding by riding results on page 3). Pundits are speculating that there may be permanent fracture in the coalition of centre right voters who have gathered under the BC Anne Kang BC NDP Liberal umbrella for the past couple of decades. Federal Retirees volunteers were active—getting letters to all candidates of the three major parties in the Fraser Valley West ridings. The Peace Arch News and The Langley Advance Times published our Letters to the Editor. And the virtual Town Hall on October 24th—jointly sponsored by Federal Retirees and COSCO (Council of Senior Citizens’ Organizations of BC) was an edifying and even entertaining event. Anne Kang (Burnaby- Deer Lake) represented the NDP, Mary Polak (Langley) was there for the Liberals, and Annemieke Holthuis (Victoria-Swan Lake) stepped in at the last minute to do a creditable job Mary Polak BC Liberals presenting the BC Greens’ platform. (Ms. Holthuis, incidentally, worked for the federal government for 30 years as a legal advisor on human rights issues and criminal law reform—and yes! she is a Federal Retiree.) We are informed that flow management is included in Metro Vancouver's Solid Waste Management Plan and that their regional district has met the Ministry's public consultation requirements prior to submitting the bylaw for your approval. Our Board understands that waste flow management is an important regulatory tool to support the implementation of local governments' solid waste management plans and regulate the flow of municipal waste and recyclable materials as provided for in the Environmental Management Act. Waste flow management is becoming an important issue for many regional districts in British Columbia. The CRD may review waste flow management and regulatory approaches as part of the development of its new Integrated Solid Waste and Resource Management Plan. We support the principle that, where the authority has been granted through an approved Solid Waste Management Plan, a regional district may require that municipal solid waste, recyclable and organic materials generated within that jurisdiction be received at designated facilities.
