Career Development Services Brochure 2021-22 CAREER DEVELOPMENT SERVICES 2021 -2022 CDS CDS FROM THE DIRECTOR’S DESK Established in 2016, IIT Jammu began with 82 students in the B.Tech program. We are now a family of more than 800, flourishing in several disciplines of B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD programmes. We believe self discovery is the route to personal growth and our geography helps our stakeholders experience this in the most powerful ways possible. Our proximity to nature and the picturesque snow-capped mountains offer a great atmosphere for learning and leading, simultaneously. Creating an outstanding learning experience for our students remains our primary goal and the exceptional skills and experience our faculty brings to the table makes us one of the fastest growing 3G IITs in India. Practical skills coupled with a strong hold on theoretical knowledge is further empowered by our swiftly advancing lab facilities. However, last year posed a unique challenge. How do we create a lab experiment experience for our pupils who are tuning in from the computer screens? We got down to work and tried our best to offer lab experiments by virtue of professional photographers, camerapersons, skilled lab assistants and well-formulated experiment manuals. We noticed greater student participation and were able to impart the fundamentals of science and engineering that makes IITians stand apart in the outside world. The students of IIT Jammu are trained to build things from the ground up since the day they join us. They have seen the campus growing and have made essential contributions that will stand with us in the years to come. Because of this, I like to call them, the “Startup Specialists”.They understand the hustle, they know the meaning of what blooms when one strives sincerely in a pursuit to thrive. Their discipline and determination has gotten us this far and I have full faith that our exceptional students will build a unique legacy for themselves in the world. Their roots will be in the mountains as their heads held high in the sky of their achievements. I am proud to report that IIT Jammu’s first batch of graduating engineers are now out and about in the industry. The Career Development Services team at IIT Jammu has been an active catalyst in turning our graduates into responsible professionals . The commitment and zeal of our students keeps us motivated and I’m hopeful that their professional pursuits beyond the campus will serve the society and contribute to nation building. An approach to solve real life problems faced by the society and industry is inculcated amidst the pupils since their entry to the institute. IIT Jammu also lays a great emphasis on research-based projects and activities to expose the students to cutting-edge technology and new-age practices. The undergraduate programmes also have a provision that gives students the chance to get a minor degree in other disciplines. This coupled with numerous chances of cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary learning let a student go beyond their discipline and learn multifaceted skills, which is the need of the hour in today's industry. The admission to these programs is done through arguably the most competitive national level examination: Joint Entrance Examination - Advanced (JEE-Advanced) for B.tech programmes and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for admissions to the M.tech programmes. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES (B.TECH): Chemical Engineering Civil Engineering Computer Science Engineering Electrical Engineering Material Engineering Mechanical Engineering POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES (M. These foundational courses provide them with theoretical as well as practical know-how through a bottom-up approach starting from circuit and system designing, processor designing and assembly language, programming languages syntax, to semantics. They learn about Data Structures and Algorithms in great detail, paving the way to understand Operating Systems’ basic and parallel programming constructs. Courses like Database Management Systems and Artificial Intelligence have been designed to meet the needs of the Industry. In their penultimate year, the students use these concepts to prepare a technically detailed and optimised solution to a real-life problem under the guidance of a professor in their B.Tech project. The (Undergraduate Programme) (Undergraduate students use this foundational understanding in elective courses ranging from the domain of Machine Learning, Hardware Optimisation, GM designing of algorithms, and software development which prepares them to work and make meaningful contributions in the field of their interest. Students are offered specializations in Data Science and Information Security for M.Tech and M.Tech Research in Computer technology. Students in the Data Science discipline go through 11 core courses with labs and tutorials which provide in-demand industrial knowledge. Students

th 8 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT (CTSEM 2021) August 26 - 27, 2021 (Online mode) Centre for Transportation Research Department of Civil Engineering National Institute of Technology Calicut Kozhikode - 673601, Kerala, India 8th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT CTSEM 2021 Introduction Transportation systems play a vital role in the growth and development of economies. Reliable, cost effective and sustainable modes help in rapid movement of people and goods, not only within a country but also between countries. Considering the ubiquitous nature of the transportation system and the crucial role played by it in the lives of people, it is imperative that the problems associated with the transport systems are addressed in a time bound manner by the scientific community. It goes without saying that the problems associated with the transportation system get accentuated in urban areas. It is estimated that by the mid twenty-first century, 68% of the population will live in urban areas. Increase in purchasing power of the people have seen a rise in private vehicle ownership. The burgeoning population, rise in vehicle ownership, along with the demand for reliable and accessible transportation facilities for people and goods are posing a severe strain in the transportation systems. Moreover, unforeseen challenges in the form of the pandemic have posed serious challenges to the patronage of the public transport systems. Furthermore, safety, accessibility, mobility and parking challenge transportation engineers to suggest feasible and sustainable solutions for the problems. The need for the hour is therefore to provide sustainable solutions to transport related problems.

An initiative of Branding & Communications team of IIT Kharagpur and the students body Branding & Relations Cell led by Dean, International Relations. For more information contact: [email protected] I congratulate the Branding and Communications Cell of the Institute for this novel initiative. Students enjoy the learning experience best when they are challenged. I have often interacted with students, asking them what they thought was the best or worst in a class that they had just attended. And I have often been stumped by their replying that they thought they had “learnt nothing”. Why? I asked them. They said that they did not find the teaching challenging enough. This should leave no one in doubt that we should take another look at the teaching and learning process. Students themselves can be a part of this relook. I have often advocated for student-teachers, often letting them take my own class. The result has been phenomenal, making students involved learners. Only greater involvement on the part of students can ensure their learning. This does not have to happen inside the class always. Sports, extra-curricular activities provide their own challenges. I encourage students to take up these challenges. As these entries show, many of them have indeed taken them up, and realized their enormous potential and talent. Tap your hidden talents and energies. Take up challenges, get involved and enjoy the learning experience Every student is an achiever in his or her own right. Each of them has tremendous potential inside them, and if they pursue their passion with focus and hard work, they will reach their goal.
