Barber Shops Full Page March 2011 Edition The Fayetteville Press Newspaper Page 5b Community Barber Shops Most short haircuts have some level of a taper, which just means the back and sides are buzzed shorter than the top. Popular short haircuts for black men are based in several classic styles which can be modified as very creative and expressive cuts. Basic Cuts · Generally your short · hair cut will be “buzzed,” or made with an electric razor. Overall, tapers are very blended, so that the length differences are not the focus of the cut. For a dark taper, cut your hair long enough so that the scalp barely, if at all, shows through. Your hairline in front should be modified with clean, sharp edges framing your face. For a cleaner look in back, use a blocked neck with a straight horizontal edge. For a less severe look, use a tapered neck—trim down the natural hairline in back and clean it up into a “U” shape along the neck. A more drastic short-to-long cut is called a fade. Leave the top hair longer and buzz the sides and back at an even shorter length than a taper cut, with less gradual blending applied. A very short fade is called a skin bald fade, allowing your scalp to show on the back and sides. In a “Philly fade,” or temple fade, your temples are faded more dramatically and this fade can extend over your ears or to the back of your neck. Add a Creative Touch · Taking the basic skin bald fade and long top hair, buzz the top of the hair so it is horizontally flat to create a high top fade. Starting with a low blended fade, which is just a bit longer than a skin bald fade, you can add designs or letters to make your cut more expressive. Using an electric razor, a professional hairstylists can create artistic designs in the short haircuts of their African American male clients. Military Hair Cut The high and tight “Army” haircut and the buzz cut are both trimmed very close to the scalp. The hair on top is only slightly longer. An Army cut can be brushed to stand straight up while the buzz cut is intended to lie flat. These styles look distinguished on older men and confident on younger guys. These haircuts require very little maintenance and can be done at home. Modern men’s haircuts are all about shape and style. Emo cuts are highly textured and layered to express individuality. Punk styles use a combination of shaved sections and spikes to demonstrate a personal statement. Dreads and cornrows, although hardly new, tend to fall into the modern category. This is because it has taken a while for ethnic haircuts to become ac- cepted by mainstream society. The main topics of this meeting will be “Immunogenetics in Dermatology and Aging”. Through plenaries and parallel workshop sessions, we aim to share insights and experiences and discuss how advances in aesthetic and general dermatology. Several major histocompatibility complex and nonmajor histocompatibility complex genetic polymorphisms have been identified which may contribute to the inflammatory skin diseases and skin aging. Most of these genetic variants are associated with mechanisms attributed to the pathogenesis of skin disease and aging, including pathways involved in cytokines, chemokine and vitamin regulation and ultraviolet light exposure and other environmental factors. Immunogenetics is a subspeciality of medicine that studies the relationship between genetics and immunology. Immunogenetics helps in understanding the pathogenesis of several autoimmune, malign, infectious skin diseases and also skin aging. 5th INDERCOS congress focuses on the genetic research areas of autoimmune skin diseases such as connective tissue diseases, psoriasis, skin cancers, vasculitis, skin aging and skin infections. This chapter outlines personal grooming while wearing the USAF- style or Corporate-style uniforms. Commander’s discretion may be used to determine if individual’s personal grooming is within standards of this manual. Commanders do not have authority to waive grooming and appearance standards except as identified in this manual. The personal grooming standards listed are minimum standards that represent common appearance issues and are not all-inclusive. Although members have the right, within established limits, to express their individuality through their appearance, this manual defines what is and what is not an acceptable, professional image for CAP members. Except for minor variations based on gender differences, all CAP personnel must comply with the same personal grooming standards dependent on the uniform they are wearing (USAF-style or Corporate-style). Commanders have the responsibility to determine compliance with the letter and intent of this manual and to correct the obvious violations regardless of whether the situation identified is clearly written in this manual. 3.2. USAF-style Uniform Grooming Standards. Members must comply with the requirements of this paragraph and sub-paragraphs to wear the USAF-style uniform.
