WHY FUTANGUE PRIVATE RESERVE Futangue is a private family-run conservation project with a network of over 70 miles of trails in an area of more than 13.500 ha. The park has controlled access and there are no campsites or large groups from local agencies crowding the trails, ensuring quiet and peaceful hikes. WHY FUTANGUE VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES The park is a destination for all kinds of outdoor experiences: hiking, fly fishing, bird watching, mountain biking, horseback riding, kayaking, snowshoeing, nature photography, bathing in hot springs, and visiting local villages are just some of them. WHY FUTANGUE UNSPOILED ENVIRONMENT Futangue’s native forests have remained untouched since their origins. The pristine ecosystem hosts an incredible biodiversity of flora, fauna, and fungi, with many endemic species from this corner of South America, making the park the perfect playground for nature enthusiasts. WHY FUTANGUE GOOD CONNECTIVITY A flight from Santiago to Osorno airport is only an hour and a half, and the drive to the reserve takes the same time. It’s a lovely journey from any of the airports close to the park on excellent asphalt roads. This new destination in the middle between Puerto Varas and Pucon can easily be combined with other programs. WHY FUTANGUE UNDERSTATED ELEGANCE Relaxed and exclusive on an intimate scale; Futangue is a fusion of elegance with discretion and simplicity, reflected in the natural environment which surrounds it. A glass of wine at sunset, beside the outdoor fire pit and the warm attention from our staff enhance the outstanding Futangue experience. FACILITIES HOTEL The architecture is characterized by the presence of native wood, and the decoration stands out due to the use of indigenous fabrics, colorful textiles inspired by national artists, and objects from the Mapuche culture. The local traditions are present in every corner and detail. FACILITIES ROOMS The rooms are furnished with rustic pieces and leathers, in addition to exclusive noble wood coverings. The bathrooms contain organic amenities made of plants and fruits from the native forest. Warm, sober and natural is the hallmark of our style. FACILITIES RESTAURANT We offer a culinary experience with the best ingredients from Northern Patagonia. We focus on the authentic flavors of our region, sourcing our food from local suppliers as well as using our own produce, making our restaurant cuisine a journey in itself. FACILITIES SPA Indulge yourself in our 450 m² Spa surrounded by mountains and picturesque landscapes. Its architecture highlights the warmth of native wood and volcanic stones, representing Futangue’s natural heritage and identity. EXCURSIONS VALDIVIAN RAIN FOREST Get immersed in amazing trails through huge centuries-old trees and learn about the plants and animals that inhabit this ecosystem. EXCURSIONS LAKES AND RIVERS The park has seven small lakes and lagoons surrounded by exuberant vegetation and at different altitudes, ranging between 1.000 and 3.500 feet above sea level. Most of them can be explored in kayaks and some are excellent for fly fishing. EXCURSIONS WATERFALLS Beautiful waterfalls are present in different parts of the park and provide a stunning backdrop for hikers along the trail. One of them, the “Saltos del Riñinahue” was the location for the final of the RedBull Cliffdiving World Tour in 2017. EXCURSIONS LAVA FIELDS Discover the otherworldly scenery of “Piedras Quemadas,”a remote and almost unexplored river of volcanic lava that carved through the land back in 1922. Marvelous geological features embellish the landscape everywhere you look. EXCURSIONS MOUNTAINS Conquer summits at nearly 4,500 feet above sea level and get ready for breathtaking 360-degree views of the Patagonian Andes. From the top, take a look at some of the greatest volcanoes in Chilean and Argentinian territory. Come and learn about Futangue’s fascinating geological history. EXCURSIONS FLY FISHING The park and its surroundings offer world-class fly fishing for rainbow and brown trouts, with a combination of privacy, connectivity and quality that is hard to find elsewhere. • Hierarchical Travel-Market Segmentation Based on Travel Expenses. the Case of San Martin De Los Andes, Patagonia, Argentina
    | N.º 10 | 2008 (123-135) Hierarchical Travel-Market Segmentation Based on Travel Expenses. The case of San Martin de los Andes, Patagonia, Argentina RAÚL VALDEZ * [ [email protected] ] LUCIA TAMAGNI ** [ [email protected] ] MARINA ZANFARDINI *** [ [email protected] ] Abstract | Travel-market segmentation can help tourist-destination managers to have a better understanding of tourists’ needs and, consequently, to address more accurately their tourist offers. In order to identify the main market segments of San Martin de los Andes in the south of Argentina, an empirical study was made utilizing a sample of 276 tourists who visited this site during the 2004 summer season. To identify the main market segments of this tourist site, the AID (Automatic Interaction Detection) technique was utilized considering daily-tourist expenses as dependent variable. The results of the study showed that segments entitled “Gasoleros”, “Sightseeing singles and couples”, “Active couples”, “High-income small families”, “Mid-income families”, and “Low-income families” can be considered as constituting a whole the target tourist-market of San Martín de los Andes. With the study, tourism managers can assess more accurately the tourist demands of this destination; the findings in this study can thus contribute to the effective implantation of the Operative Marketing Program Strategies contained in the “Masterful Plan of Tourism 2003-2007”. Keywords | Travel-Market Segmentation, Automatic Interaction Detection (AID), Travel Expenses Average. Resumo | A segmentação do mercado turístico pode ajudar os responsáveis pela gestão e desenvolvimento dos destinos a compreenderem melhor as necessidades dos turistas e consequentemente a direccionarem mais correctamente as suas ofertas.

  • Draft of Action Plan for Patagonian Otters in Argentina
Draft of action plan for Patagonian otters in Argentina Laura Fasola, David Macdonald and Marcelo H. Cassini - March 2007 - WILDCRU, University of Oxford, United Kingdom GEMA group, PROFAUNA Organisation & University of Luján, Argentina Photo: C. Chehébar STATUS AND ECOLOGY The huillín or southern river otter, Lontra provocax, is an endemic species from Argentinean and Chilean Patagonia. This species has been categorized as “endangered” at an international level and "at risk" at a national level in Argentina and Chile, and it is listed on Appendix 1 of CITES. Like other otter species, the southern river otter has semi-aquatic habits. It lives in both fresh and salt water, using lakes, rivers and the sea as food sources and banks and coastline as refuges. Its diet is known to consist mainly of macro-crustaceans and fish, with the former the predominant prey in freshwater sites, and the latter in marine habitats. Historically, the southern river otter is supposed to have occupied several localities along the fringe of the Andean-Patagonian forest of Argentina, from the Neuquén (38° S) to Tierra del Fuego (55° S) Provinces. The species occupied not only the forest, but also the Limay, Negro, Chubut and Senguer Rivers that cross the steppe, a semi arid environment. By the 1980’s several surveys in Argentina showed that the huillin faced high risk of extinction. One potentially important factor in this contraction of distribution was the intensive hunting encouraged by the high value of its fur, despite protective legislation for hunting prohibition hunting since 1950. In last years, new surveys were conducted and two genetically distinct populations were described.
