HEARD Abstract. Second paper that contained records of 13 species of Leuconidae from the Gulf of Mexico. Four new species are described: Leucon papadopoli n. sp., L. andreiae n. sp., L. raduletzi n. sp. and L. serafimae n. sp. Other 8 species and subgenera Crymoleucon Watling, 1991 and Macrauloleucon Watling, 1991 are recorded for the first time from the area, only Leucon americanus Zimmer, 1943 was previously found. Résumé. C’est le second travail contenant des espèces de Leuconidae du Golfe de Mexico. On y a trouvé 13 espèces, dont 4 sont nouvelles pour la science: Leucon papadopoli n. sp., L. andreaiae n. sp., L. raduletzi n. sp. et L. serafimae n. sp. Huit autres espèces et deux sous-genres, à savoir Crymoleucon Watling, 1991 et Macreuleucon Watling, 1991 sont mentionnées pour la première fois dans cette zone du golfe. Une seule espèce y a été retrouvée, à savoir Leucon americanus Zimmer, 1943. Key words: Gulf of Mexico, Cumacea, Leuconidae, new species, new records. INTRODUCTION Calman (1912) reported Oxyurostylis smithi from Punta Rassa, first mention of Cumacea from the Gulf of Mexico. Later, Zimmer (1943, 1944), Bãcescu (1971, 1979), Bãcescu & Muradian (1977), Muradian-Ciamician (1980), Watling (1977), Radhadevi & Kurian (1981), Omholt & Heard (1982), Roccatagliata & Heard (1995), Petrescu (2004), Petrescu & Heard (2001, 2004 a, b, 2005) mentioned other species and genera from families Bodotriidae, Nannastacidae and Diastylidae, but not from family Leuconidae. The only paper dedicated to cumaceans from this area in which the family Leuconidae (with genera Eudorella and Leucon) is mentioned is that of Heard, Roccatagliata & Petrescu (2007): “An illustrated guide to Cumacea (Crustacea: Malacostraca: Peracarida) from Florida coastal and shelf waters to depths of 100 m. State of Florida”. The occurrence of leuconid cumaceans in the Gulf of Mexico has not been well studied. Eudorella monodon Calman, 1912 was the first member of the family to be reported from the Gulf of Mexico. This species, which was described by Calman (1912) from brackish waters along the coast of Louisiana, has since been reported from other areas of the northern Gulf of Mexico (Farrel, 1979; Modlin & Dardeau, 1986; Heard et al., 2007) and western Gulf of Mexico (Donath-Hernández, 1988). Modlin & Dardeau (1988) also reported Leucon americanus Zimmer, 1943 from Mobile Bay; however, Heard et al. (2007) concluded that material from Mobile Bay represented an undescribed species („Leucon sp. A“), which is apparently endemic to the northern Gulf of Mexico. Leucon americanus appears to be restricted to the East Coast of North America, though it was inadvertently listed from the Gulf of Mexico by Heard & Roccatagliata (2009). In their guide to the Cumacea of Florida waters, Heard et al. (2007) reported two undescribed species of Leucon (species A & B). from Gulf of Mexico coastal and shelf waters. 72 IORGU PETRESCU, RICHARD W. S. A. and identified in the „Grigore Antipa” National Museum of Natural History, Bucharest (Romania). The type specimens are mainly deposited in the collections of the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington and partially in the „Grigore Antipa” National Museum of Natural History, Bucharest. RESULTS In the present material we identified 13 species, from two genera and four subgenera; four species of genus Leucon are new to sciences. Two species of genus Eudorella Norman, 1867 are presented in Heard, Roccatagliata & Petrescu (2007), Eudorella monodon Calman (1912) and Eudorella sp. A. We mentioned other two, including a new species; none of the previously mentioned species are present in our material. Regarding the genus Leucon, three species were found by Heard, Roccatagliata & Petrescu, Leucon americanus Zimmer, 1943, Leucon sp. A and Leucon sp. B; in our material we found twelve species, including four new species; the subgenera Crymoleucon Watling and Macrauloleucon Watling are mentioned for the first time from deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The material was collected during 12 summer expeditions organized from Diversity; 1997 to 2013. In all, 24 pelagic and 116 benthic taxa were recorded, most of them widely Distribution distributed Arctic-boreal species. The advection of different water masses from the shelf had a direct impact on the structure of the pelagic Malacostraca communities, resulting in the clear dominance of the sub-arctic hyperiid amphipod Themisto abyssorum in Kongsfjorden and the great abundance of Decapoda larvae in Hornsund. The taxonomic, functional and size compositions of the benthic malacostracan assemblages varied between the two fjords, and also between the glacier-proximate inner bays and the main fjord basins, as a result of the varying dominance patterns of the same assemblage of species. There was a significant drop in species richness in the strongly disturbed glacial bays of both fjords, but only in Hornsund was this accompanied by a significant decrease in density and diversity, probably due to greater isolation and poorer quality of sediment organic matter in its innermost basin.

In this study, Pseudoleucon japonicus Gamô, 1964 belonging to family Leuconidae Sars, 1878 is newly recorded for Korean cumacean fauna. Also, for the first time, the male of the species is fully described and illustrated. The specimens were collected from the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the western sea (Yellow Sea) of Korea, with a rectangular dredge during 2007-2008. This species is characterized by the following features: the carapace has strong serrations on the antero-lateral margin and a pair of short oblique ridges on the side surface; the ridges begin near the end of frontal lobe and merge with the dorsal median carina; the appendages, such as antenna 1, pereopod 2 and uropod have a lot of simple setae decorated with a bundle of hairs at the end. The present study represents the first record on the genus Pseudoleucon Zimmer, 1903 from Korea. Atlantocuma gamoi is characterized by (1) carapace elevated in preparatory and ovigerous female, (2) antero-lateral angle of carapace with 3 teeth in females, and (3) pseudorostrum of carapace of adult males truncate, anterolateral angle without teeth. Atlantocuma ojii is characterized by (1) carapace not elevated in preparatory females, but elevated in ovigerous females, (2) inferior margin of carapace in ovigerous female serrated for entire length, (3) pseudorostrum of carapace in adult males truncate, (4) uropod exopod with 1–2 spiniform setae on inner margin, except for subterminal one. The new genus Pseudopicrocuma, which is similar to Picrocuma from shallow waters of eastern Australia, is characterized by (1) well-developed exopods present on maxilliped 3 and pereopods 1–3 in both sexes, (2) antenna 1 of adult males with many aesthetascs-like sensory setae on peduncle articles 2 and 3, (3) male antenna 2 of clasping form, and (4) uropod slender, peduncle shorter than rami.

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract A new genus and species, Phalloleucon abyssalis, of the cumacean family Leuconidae from the Peru Basin is introduced. The new genus is characterised in having penial lobes and one pair of pleopods in males. It is suggested that the species Eudorella redacticruris Watling and McCann, 1997 is transfered into a new leuconid genus: Pseudeudorella. Key words: Peru Basin, deep sea, taxonomy, new genera, Cumacea, Leuconidae Introduction Nothing was known about the deep-sea Cumacea of the eastern Pacific until Bacescu (1972) described the new genus Archaeocuma from the Peru–Chile Trench and erected the new family Archaeocumatidae. Some years later, Muradian (1979 a, b) described three new nannastacid species from deep waters of Peru and Chile. Around the turn of the last century, Petrescu (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001) described 13 more species from the deep sea of the south eastern Pacific. Until now one species of the family Archaeocumatidae, four species and two genera of the Bodotriidae, ten species of one genus of the Leuconidae, and 13 species of five genera of the Nannastacidae are known from the south-eastern deep Pacific. Only two cumacean genera, characterised by the presence of penial lobes in males, were known until now.
