XL Leisure EMCC Case Studies
The impact of bankruptcy on restructuring in the UK tourism sector: XL Leisure EMCC case studies Click for contents Wyattville Road, Loughlinstown, Dublin 18, Ireland - Tel: (+353 1) 204 31 00 - Fax: (+353 1) 282 42 09 / 282 64 56 email: [email protected] - website: www.eurofound.europa.eu Contents Introduction 1 Company profile 2 Timeline of the company’s collapse 3 Legal context for company bankruptcy and collective redudunacies 7 Administration and redundancy process at XL Leisure 14 Measures to assist redundant XL Leisure employees 21 Lessons learnt 23 Bibliography 25 Annex 1 27 Introduction The collapse of package-holiday giant XL Leisure Group made front-page news in September 2008, with tens of thousands of British holidaymakers stranded in airports across Europe and hundreds of employees made redundant. As the company’s assets were frozen, flights grounded and holidays cancelled, the scale and nature of the meltdown quickly became apparent. Indeed, the operator’s demise was one of the earliest examples of the credit crunch affecting businesses. The size of debt amassed by XL Leisure, its previous failed restructuring, uncontrolled growth and mounting overheads meant that the company had been on the brink of insolvency for some time. The precarious financial situation into which the Group had sunk prior to collapse was only exacerbated by the economic downturn. The resulting hardships for employees and customers have raised questions over the way in which tour operators in the UK are run and how restructuring and insolvency in this industry are managed under less favourable market conditions. © European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, 2009 1 Company profile 1 XL Leisure Group plc was a large travel and leisure company with offices in the UK, Ireland, France and Germany. -
Aviation Maintenance News
Page 1 of 5 25 July 2010 No. 885 MRO AVIATION MAINTENANCE NEWS Lufthansa Technik AG (LHT) is stepping up its presence in Berlin and plans to build a new aircraft maintenance hangar at the future Berlin Brandenburg International (BBI) airport. The new hangar, which will have three bays for short- and medium-range aircraft, will be used to maintain Lufthansa aircraft from 2012. At the same time it will be possible to expand the capacity available for other LHT customers in Berlin. The Maintenance Centre at Schoenefeld airport has been offering maintenance and repair services for aircraft in the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 families for two decades. Today, the 450-strong workforce carries out 100 or so major and almost 200 minor checks every year in the two maintenance hangars on the eastern side of the airport. In 2009, some 360 000 man-hours of labour flowed into the various technical services provided for short-haul aircraft belonging to Lufthansa and other customers - among them Condor Berlin, Germania, Germanwings, EasyJet and Hamburg International. For 2010, Lufthansa Technik is expecting a further small increase in utilization in Berlin. Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services (LBAS) with its staff of 150 highly skilled employees, which is also based at Berlin Schoenefeld airport, is also optimistic about the future. Specializing in the maintenance of Bombardier business jets and the only Bombardier service centre outside North America, LBAS is one of the leading providers of these services in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. #885.MRO1 Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co. (Boeing Shanghai) has received European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) maintenance certification, greatly enhancing the aviation maintenance facility’s market potential. -

Prior Compliance List of Aircraft Operators Specifying the Administering Member State for Each Aircraft Operator – June 2014
Prior compliance list of aircraft operators specifying the administering Member State for each aircraft operator – June 2014 Inclusion in the prior compliance list allows aircraft operators to know which Member State will most likely be attributed to them as their administering Member State so they can get in contact with the competent authority of that Member State to discuss the requirements and the next steps. Due to a number of reasons, and especially because a number of aircraft operators use services of management companies, some of those operators have not been identified in the latest update of the EEA- wide list of aircraft operators adopted on 5 February 2014. The present version of the prior compliance list includes those aircraft operators, which have submitted their fleet lists between December 2013 and January 2014. BELGIUM CRCO Identification no.
