Allianz Holdings appoints ex- executive as new chairman By Minyoung Park September 30, 2020.

Allianz Holdings, the U.K. subsidiary of and company Allianz SE, said Wednesday that it appointed former AXA senior executive Paul Evans as its non-executive chairman, as its parent company also prepares to usher in new members to its board of management.

Evans is set to join the board as chairman elect in November and will replace the current chairman, Rick Hudson, who will be retiring in April next year, the insurer said. He will also chair Allianz Insurance and LV= General Insurance Group.

Prior to this appointment, Evans spent 13 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers and 17 years at AXA, where he held various senior roles including group CEO of AXA UK and group CEO of AXA Global Life, Savings and Health. In addition, he was chairman of the Association of British Insurers from 2014 to 2016.

Evans also sits on the boards of health care company and reinsurer , according to his LinkedIn page.

“In these times of great uncertainty, challenge and change in our industry, Paul’s extensive knowledge and experience will be invaluable in helping to drive Allianz on to even greater success in the future,” Allianz Holdings CEO Jon Dye said, adding that Evans is a “highly respected fgure” in the U.K. insurance market.

Evans said, “It is a huge privilege to become chairman of Allianz Holdings plc at such an important time for our industry. Allianz Insurance and LV= General insurance have built remarkably strong, customer-focused franchises, and they can face the future together with great confdence.”

His appointment comes as Allianz SE recently made changes to its management board as well. On Friday, it said it appointed two new members to its board of management.

Barbara Karuth-Zelle, currently CEO of Allianz Technology, was appointed for three years and will be responsible for operations and internet technology efective Jan. 1, while Christopher Townsend, who was the former CEO of American International Group’s international general insurance operations, has also been appointed to the board. Townsend will be tasked with the global insurance lines, including Alliance Global Corporate and Specialty; U.S.-based North American Insurance Company; and , Anglo markets, the Middle East and Africa, starting Jan. 1.
