Chairwoman's Committee Breakfast and Playdate Words by Triin Kassis, Photos by Azusa Uchida

July is the month of holidays and during this time half of the BAMBI Committee was scattered all around the world visiting their families. So, with the few of us still left in Bangkok, we decided to make a fun breakfast-playdate, instead of our serious monthly working jmeeting. We got together at my place and had some nice muffins and cinnamon rolls while our kids were running and playing around us. It was great to just sit together, enjoy good food and for a change also talk about other topics than BAMBI :)

Sample letter Dear Mrs. Smith,

My husband and I are writing this letter to introduce ourselves and to open a door of communication. We are the parents of Jason Doe, who will be a student in your class this year. We are looking forward to a successful school year for both you and him, and as Jason's parents, we want to work with you and the school as partners in his education. We will be happy to help you and Jason in any way we can.

Jason’s math skills are a grade level above his peers. We ask that you give him advanced math work in the class- room and teach him at his level.

Since Jason is easily distracted, he may need a table close to the teacher or the front of the class. He may also need to be seated near children who are not a distraction. Last year, he was prone to goofing off with certain kids.

Jason also has a pre-asthma condition. When his allergies are acting up, his allergist wants him to take his inhaler before PE and playtime. Last year, he went to the nurse to take his medication.

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. My husband and I look forward to meeting you. Our contact infor- mation is below. Please contact me anytime you need to.

20 • September 2016 Tens Machines for Hire

The BAMBI Bumps and Babies team are now offering a TENS Machine Rental Service.

TENS or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation offers a drug-free alternative to conventional pain relief in labour. The machine sends small, safe pulses of electrical current via the leads to the pads on your skin. The pulses pass through your skin and into your muscles and tissues. This gives you a gentle tingling or buzzing sensation, which may be stronger or weaker, depending on the setting level. These currents interrupt the transmission of labour-pain signals to the brain and support the release of natural endorphins.

Rental is available from 37th week of pregnancy for a maximum 35-day period.

Cost of hire is ฿400, plus a ฿1,500 refundable security deposit. Hire is subject to terms and conditions.

For more information, please contact the Bumps and Babies team on [email protected].

Different countries, different lunches. Take a peek into the lunch boxes of Bangkok families from different countries.

Unless you’re one of the lucky ones whose kid’s school provides lunches, every school day starts off with packing your child’s lunch box. Ever wonder what other kids bring to school? We asked some moms from different countries, and it’s clear: those lunch boxes are packed with Unutrition and LOVE!

Add these to your file of fun and tasty recipes the kids will love!

When it comes to feeding hungry children, I prefer to cook simple dishes I can knock out in a few minutes. Here wis a current favourite that my 4-year-old enjoys.

Meat on a stick: Always so popular with kids! This easy chicken dinner can be served with roasted veggies, Chicken Skewers pan-fried potatoes, carrot or celery sticks, rice with fresh with Cucumber veggies, etc. It is also an ultimate crowd pleaser when it comes to playdates or BBQs, when catering for both and Yoghurt Dip children as well as adults.

Ingredients: • Boneless chicken thighs – I prefer to use thighs as they are more flavoursome and juicier. Plus they are harder to overcook and dry out (especially if you are needed in the course of dinner preparation).

For the yoghurt dip: • Cucumber • Yoghurt • Dill, chopped up • For adults: pinch of salt, pepper, and grated garlic

How-to: Cut the chicken thighs to about 2cm wide strips and pierce them with a skewer. I make a few and freeze them in batches to save time next time. Chuck them on a frying pan on medium-high temperature with a little bit of oil, and turn after 2 minutes or so. (At this point, you can also add some veggies if you like.) Cook another couple of minutes until the chicken is done. (Season.)

To make the yoghurt dip: Grate the hard part of a cucumber with skin on, leaving the soft middle part with seeds out, and mix it with some strained yoghurt and chopped up dill. For the adults I also add a pinch of salt, pepper and grated garlic (best made in advance to let the flavours develop).

44 • September 2016 CREATIVE KIDS DIY School Organiser Station Idea and Photos by Fiona Bradley-Barnard

Making your little one a place to keep their school things organised is easy. Fiona Bradley-Barnard shows us how.

As your kids start or go back to school, you’ll find that it’s helpful (for everyone!) to have a space for them to keep their school things organized. Here’s an easy-to-make school organiser station that Fiona Bradley-Barnard put together with a few simple materials.

Materials:

• Hooks - KLÄDE knob rack from IKEA, ฿299. • Book holder - KVISSLE wall newspaper rack from IKEA, ฿499. In this case, Fiona used just one layer of the rack, but you can adjust to your child’s needs. • Mini blackboard - from Daiso, ฿60. • Wall attachment strips - Fiona recommends the 3M Command Removable Picture Hanging Tapes: “These are amazing - leave no mark when removed from wall.” Available at Homepro, ฿80 for 6 pieces.

Simply mount these items in a corner and height that’s easy for your child to access. The possibilities and variations are endless!
