Fete launches 10th Anniversary by Barbara Verity oncordia Fete kicked off eight months of celebration last Thurs­ day to mark the 10th Anniversary of . C Despite the clouds and rain . it was a day of fun for faculty. staff. students and the public at the two campuses. "The 10th Anniversary is an opportunity for each and everyone to reaf­ firm our commitment to the University -and to take pride in our achievements. We have cause to be proud as we look ahead to the future ." said Rector Patrick Kenniff to the large crowd gathered mid­ morning in the Hall Building. "And today we're going to have fun ." he added . Concordia Fete officially began as Chancellor W . Earle McLaughlin cut into the huge birthday cake decorated with Concordia's crest. Onlookers included University dignitaries and visitors such as Cl aude Freniere. representing Mayor Jean Drapeau. MNA Reed Scowen and MP Jacques Guilbault. Freniere addressed the gathering. congratulating the University and wishing it continued success. (The text of his speech is reprinted elsewhere on this page.) The first event of the day had over 100 marathon racers from the ranks of faculty. staff. students and the public head from the Ha ll Building to cover the 7 .5 km to the west end campus. First place winner was Michael Charbonneau. fr om the public. who c! ocked in at 22 min . 20 sec .. follow ­ ed by Denis Santos. member of the Alumni. and Allan Ke hoe. Com­ merce Student. Among women . the first place position was taken by Jackie Dube. a n Exercise Science Studer.I . at 25 min . 40 sec .. fo ll owed by Maga Nowlan. Anthropology Student. and Carol Straub. Storytelling Members of the Concordia and M ontrea l communities can while away lunch hours and ea rl y evenings listening to famous story-tellers from across North A merica. Topics will be of interest to people of all ages and participants include well-known raconteurs such as W.O. Mitchell and G.S. Kirk .

Alumni Activities A series of eight lectures by distinguished graduates of Concordia University and its two founding institutions. Topics cover a range of academic. business. personal and social issues. Speakers will include Sacvan Bercovitch of Harvard College and Eileen Hendry of the Canadian Council on the Status of Women . Numerous alumni reunions are also planned. bringing together graduates from across the continent to renew old friendships and learn more about Concordia·s contributions to the development of Quebec and Canada. ·

Cultural Activities Concordia University's Art Galleries will be holding exhibitions by prominent Canadian artists who graduated from Concordia or its two founding institutions. The Faculty of Fine Arts will als9 be exhibiting works by students and staff members.
