Intercontinental food cargo

We know that sensitive reefer cargo and frozen food transport and warehousing deserve a dedicated approach. That is why we have brought together all the official authorities involved with perishable cargo in our Border Control Post (BCP).

In this specialised centre, veterinary clearance, customs and maritime police all work under the same roof to speed up the clearance of your cargo, which is completely segregated from other food cargo to avoid contamination with products. In the Port of Zeebrugge, your container can be dispatched to the market while the vessel is at berth; the food cargo can make its way to your customers or be temporarily stored in our deepfreeze warehouses.

ContinentalContinental Europe Europe & & UK UK cargo cargo

Food cargo originating from the EU travels freely within the unified European market. Europe - UK: door-to-door transport

Ø The successful Zeebrugge - UK door-to-door concept is based on the geographical spread of UK ports, which have daily links with the Port of Zeebrugge. Another determining factor is the comparatively low logistics cost in Zeebrugge compared to the UK. As a result, orders picked in a Zeebrugge warehouse on Day A before 2 p.m. are guaranteed a JIT delivery with the UK client on Day B. Several companies offer FCL, LCL, FTL or LTL solutions. Ø ECS 2XL offers warehouse solutions and intermodal 45’ door-to-door logistics between and within the UK, Ireland and Continental Europe. The company has 120,000 m² of rail-connected warehouse surface for the storage of buffer stocks between European producers and consignees in the UK. Ø Nearly 70 road transport companies have offices in the Port of Zeebrugge. A number of them specialise in temperature-controlled transportation and have invested in cold storage warehouses. Ø The Transport Zone Zeebrugge (TZZ) is a strategically located area specially developed for the road transport sector. Shippers can choose from many different companies; this results in high service levels and very competitive prices. Ø The cargo generating effect of the port’s freight forwarding community has been very instrumental in establishing a vast network of short-sea and deep-sea links. Food transportation, and reefer cargo in particular, requires a great deal of effort and care. Specialised knowledge and multilingual skills are crucial elements for sustainable and successful relationship between shippers and freight forwarders. L o g i s t i c p l at f o r m

Multimodal platform

Ø Combining cargo flows to major inland multimodal platforms reduces costs and opens a world of opportunities to reach faraway clients, for whom individual road transport is just not an option. Frequent block trains to and from intermodal “hot spots” connect your cargo to the entire European market. Ø The port of Zeebrugge plays an active role in creating hinterland products by bringing together cargo from different operators to create sufficient volumes. Connection with the hinterland is established by rail, by estuary barge and by road. Ø The ‘Fresh Corridor’ is an example of how collaboration between competitors can benefit all the individual partners. In this project, deepfreeze potato products and vegetables from nearby producers use joint logistic products to reach markets at a reduced cost.

Investment opportunities

Ø The Port of Zeebrugge has established a Maritime Logistic Zone (MLZ) as a centre for value-added logistics inside the port area. Its close proximity to the actual port operations guarantees a fast and competitive flow of all exports and imports from the docks to this logistics zone. Ø The wide variety of frequent short-sea, deep-sea and hinterland links ensures your connection to the markets of Continental Europe and the UK. Just over 250 million consumers live within a 700 km reach. Ø The Maritime Logistic Zone offers 80 hectares of land that can be leased for 25 years with extension options both in time and space. A highly-skilled and multilingual labour force, combined with EDC know-how and dedicated assistance from the port authority, are valuable assets for your logistics project.

The MLZ offers following opportunities: your own logistics activity, close to European markets, inside a port area and connections to all continents. S u m m a r y
