Be a Part of the Conversation: Short Term Strategies, Long Term Solutions to Oakland’s Public Safety Problems The City of Oakland is seeking input from neighbors across the city on public safety priorities to incorporate into a comprehensive crime reduction and suppression strategic plan. These town hall meetings will be led by the renowned consulting team, Strategic Policy Partnership and are structured as a conversation between Neighbors and City Leaders including Mayor Jean Quan, City Administrator Deanna J. Informal and tape-recorded discussions were conducted with groups of students as well as teachers and administrators who were chosen spontaneously. Out of thousands of pages of transcripts, 23 voices were selected to speak for the rest. This book contains five parts concerning respectively: (1) dropouts;(2) runaways; (3) back-to-schoolers; (4) hangers-in; and (5) the beginners, the principal, the teacher, and the young Bronx entrepreneurs. The point of view of the book is that the crisis in the schools is a societal rather than simply an educational issue.

The complaint alleged that the District violated the Educational Employment Relations Act (EERA)1 by retaliating against teacher Ronald Robinson (Robinson) for engaging in protected activities when it (1) issued him a notice of non-reelection, and (2) subsequently placed him on paid administrative leave. The Oakland Education Association (OEA) charges that this conduct violated EERA section 3543.5(a). We have reviewed the entire record in this matter, including, but not limited to, the hearing transcript, the complaint, the ALJ's proposed decision, the District's exceptions2 and 1 EERA is codified at Government Code section 3540, et seq.
