Hotel in Brief: Luxury Resort (5 Red AA Stars) Restaurants and Bars 3 Championship Golf Courses Luxury Spa Fitness Centre Equestrian Centre Oudoor Activity Centre

Also known as the “playground of the gods”. It has a wonderful mix of warmth and friendliness combined with unsurpassed luxury. Gleneagles has been awarded 5 Red Stars from the AA every year since 1986. The rooms at Gleneagles are contemporary chic, with rich earthly tones and are luxuriously finished, the attention to detail is unsurpassed.

It is a superb place to relax and unwind as well as indulge in world class golf and other outdoor activities such as horse riding, or enrol in the Gleneagles Jackie Stewart Shooting School. For a more relaxed time there

is the option of fishing for salmon or trout in the River Tay or the Gleneagles trout loch. The Spa at Gleneagles has been reopened following extensive reinvestment and renovation, making it one of the world’s best hotel Spas.

Gleneagles offers three 18-hole golf courses, the challenging King’s Course, the beautiful and ecluded Queen’s course and the more recent PGA Centenary course, host venue of the 2014 Ryder Cup, designed by Jack Nicklaus. There is also the 9 hole Wee course.

Rusacks Hotel , Hotel in Brief: 4 AA Stars Restaurant and Bar,

The Rusacks occupies one of the best locations in St Andrews and has superb views over the 18th green of the St An- drews Old Course. The course is just a few steps from the main entrance of the hotel, and it is just a short walk to the town cen- tre if you want to soak up the local atmosphere.

The hotel is a great choice for the standard of service as well as the views. The friendly staff help to make you welcome after a day golfing. The restaurant boasts superb views over the course as well as receiving two rosettes by the AA for fine food. After dinner you may want to sample some of the local whiskeys in the well stocked bar.

Gleneagles

The Gleneagles Resort boasts three championship golf courses The Kings, Queens and PGA Centenary”

The Kings and Queens Courses were both designed by James Braid offering different challenges and proving to be his finest work. They continue to enthral the visitor with spellbinding views of the Scottish Glens. The Kings course is consid- ered a tough challenge for any level of golfer

The lack of length makes the Queens a softer challenge in comparison to the Kings, however it is probably the most beautiful of the three. It won’t lull you into a false sense of security for what it loses in distance it puts a high reward on accuracy. Both these courses are consistently ranked in the Top 50 Course of the UK

The PGA Centenary Course will be the host course for the 2014 Ryder Cup and was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It has been designed with Americans and tournaments in mind

Kingsbarns Golf Links

Kingsbarns is situated on the original site of Kingsbarns Golfing Society which was established in 1793. The nine hole course never re-opened after being used as a military training ground for the second world war. That is, not until the year 2000 Very much like its neighbour at St. Andrews, Kingsbarns has evolved by accident, a natural higher power has been at work here for centuries. At full stretch it is 7100 yards which will give you plenty of time to contemplate between shots the rich heritage and challenge of links golf. It has been co-host of the Dunhill Links Championship along with the Old Course and Carnoustie.

Carnoustie

Widely recognised as the toughest test in Open Championship golf the Championship Course is a 72 but with a Standard Scratch Score for amateurs of 75! Taking into account the “Buffer Zone” means that a player can retain a category 1 rating without breaking 80.

The ultimate golfing challenge probably one of the sternest tests of golf in the world . A relatively flat course its main defenses are the two burns that run across the links through out. This is comparable to its traditional counterparts; Pow Burn at Prestwick, the Swilcan Burn at St. Andrews and the Suez at Royal St. George’s. On the 17th hole you must deal with the Barry Burn three times before reaching the 434 yard Par 4.

Regarded by many including Walter Hagen and Gary Player as one of the best links in the world, Carnoustie, though certainly long, is not a course for the unthinking big-hitter. With judgement of wind and distance critical, every tee shot needs careful placement to set up an approach to the green.

Old Course

The Old Course at St. Andrews is the most famous in the world, now in its sixth century as a golf venue and the one which every golfer aspires to playing at least once in a golfing lifetime. Nine holes out and nine holes back is the classic layout with shared fairways and vast double greens. The St. Andrews courses, six in total, are administered by the St. Andrews Links Management Committee. This sandy peninsula has remained the property of St. Andrews’ citizens, with the golf courses being essentially municipal allowing anyone to play on them once you meet certain requirements.

The Old Course does not favour any particular type of player as it demands a variety of shots and will test every part of your game. There are 150 bunkers waiting to catch the errant shot.

Castle course

The newest inclusion and 7th course to be added to the St. Andrews Links Trust, The Castle Course designed by David Mclay Kidd opened in June 2008, and is situated just 5 minutes from St. Andrews town.

The views are spectacular from the course as it sits on high overlooking looking the famous town just down the coast. It has become known for its severe slopes on the fairways and greens and in windy conditions it can become a real battle. Make sure you have your short game razor sharp for this test
