The mysterious dials, knobs and antennae on the electrically-charged inventions of Robert Moog, Theremin, and others, enticed musicians to explore a universe of sounds radically different from those produced by traditional instruments. American musicians like Terry Riley, Walter Carlos and Mother Mallard’s Portable Masterpiece Co. began writing a new, avant- classical music to exploit synthesized sonics. Overseas, such artists as Tangerine Dream, Cluster and Klaus Schulze in Germany, Heldon in France, and Fripp & Eno in England, created new rock-based electronic musics. The explorations of these electronic pioneers spawned numerous sub-genres of electronic music, with names such as space music, electronic soundscapes, ambient music, new age, space rock, techno, and industrial music. Today, a new generation of visionary musicians continues to explore the frontiers of electronic sound through composition, improvisation, and mixtures thereof. They are expanding the boundaries of electronic music’s interrelated and often overlapping sub-genres, refining and redefining their sound, and creating some of the best instrumental music of the present day. Radio Massacre International (RMI) is a British electronic music trio who is carving out new ground in the genre of space music.

In a word, Radio Massacre International nail the vintage electronic music sound, but the band is simply more "nimble" than the first generation models, which greatly enhances the listening pleasure of the suitably attuned listener...if you're a musical novice unacquainted with RMI's sources, this music will serve as a stellar introduction to the form.”– Bill Tilland, All Music Guide “Frankly there isn't anyone out there doing this kind of music better… If you have a yearning for the glory days of the Berlin school, this is where you should be going.” – Spacerock.co.uk Radio Massacre International (RMI) is an electronic improvising trio that is carving out new ground in the genres of electronic space music and space rock. Composed of Steve Dinsdale (keyboards, electronics, drums), Duncan Goddard (keyboards, electronics, bass) and Gary Houghton (guitar, keyboards), the trio improvises with a mixture of vintage and modern analogue and digital equipment to create massive, shifting electronic soundscapes. Instantly recognizable, RMI’s organic, visceral, and at times rough-edged explorations in space music transport the genre popularized by Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel/Manuel Gottsching and Klaus Schulze in the 1970s into the 21st century.

  • CD Review: Tangerine Dream ~ Paradiso
CD Review: Tangerine Dream ~ Paradiso http://www.vintagerock.com/classiceye/td_paradiso.aspx Home About Us Forum Listening Room Giveaways Links Contact Us Paradiso Tangerine Dream How could any red-blooded American male forget those delicious scenes of Tom Cruise atop a writhing Rebecca De Mornay in the movie Risky Business (remember the ‘choo choo’ train scene?). Behind all that carnal mayhem pulsed the intricate ethereal soundtrack provided by seminal “krautrock” band Tangerine Dream. Twenty years later, with countless albums under their belts, Tangerine Dream has released Paradiso, based on the third part of Dante Alighieri’s “La Divina Commedia” (Dante’s “Devine Comedy” for us layman). The creator and only original member through every incarnation of Tangerine Dream, Edgar Froese teamed up with fellow West Berlin underground ‘arty’ types in the late 1960’s. Forming TD after studying under Salvador Dali, of all people, Froese and company were one of the first purveyors of what has been termed “krautrock.” Froese welcomed various members into the ‘Dream’ fold over the years, most notably, Christopher Franke and Peter Baumann and most TD listeners — even those of us with only a passing knowledge of the band — recognize their pulsating synths. Tangerine Dream actually gained a solid reputation through their soundtracks for movies like Legend, The Keep and Risky Business, and continue to tour (as members come and go) with multimedia live performances. As testament to Froese, it is said he welcomes new members as writing contributors and not just players (as he did with Franke and Baumann). On the double CD Paradiso, however, Froese composed and produced all of the music.

  • Mini-Mag N12

MONDAY, 3 MAY 2021 MOTHER EARTH COMES MARE AUSTRALIS COMES OF AGE IN THE GANAY THROUGH IN THE GUINEAS There was more Boudot magic at ParisLongchamp on Sunday as APC@ made all to draw the sting from all rivals and land the G1 Prix Ganay with the rapid improver Mare Australis (Ire) (Australia {GB}). Always highly-regarded and now an entirely different proposition from the greenhorn of last summer, Gestut Schlenderhan=s homebred had offered a glimpse of what was to come when second on his return to Skalleti (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}) in the 10-furlong G2 Prix d=Harcourt at this venue Apr. 11. Asked a new question by his rider on this sternest test of his ability so far, the 5-2 second favourite responded by stretching every rival including Mogul (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) who was in closest attendance. When he kicked in early straight, he turned the screw too tight on Ballydoyle=s 9-5 market-leader raider and kept galloping true to the line to beat the emergent Gold Trip (Fr) (Outstrip {GB}) by 1 3/4 lengths. Cont. p4 Mother Earth | racingfotos.com IN TDN AMERICA TODAY In a renewal of Newmarket=s G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas which HOW TO BUY A DERBY WINNER FOR $1,000 polarised the dreamers and the cynics, experience ultimately Bill Finley speaks with consignor Christy Whitman on GI Kentucky told on Sunday with Frankie Dettori the chief benefactor as he Derby hero Medina Spirit (Protonico).
