The genus Nama has been identified as a close relative to Eriodictyon (Ferguson 1999). Eriodictyon, Nama, and Turricula, have recently been placed in the new family Namaceae (Luebert et al. 2016). E.Related taxa in region Hannan (2013) recognizes 10 species of Eriodictyon in California, six of which have subspecific taxa. All but two taxa have occurrences in southern California. Of the southern California taxa, the most closely related taxon based on DNA sequence data is E. crassifolium (Ferguson 1999). There are no morphologically similar species that overlap in distribution with E. -

Mason is a monotypic genus cons1stmg of the single species A. chiricahuensis C.T. Mason. Apacheria was first described by Mason (1975) and was placed in the family Crossosomataceae based upon morphological, habitat, and pollen ultrastructural similarities to Crossosoma bigelovii Wats. Alternative systematic affiliations considered by Mason for this genus included Saxifragaceae and Rosaceae. Chemical investigations were initiated to test the accuracy of placement of this new genus in the family Crossosomataceae. Materials and Methods Dried plant materials for this investigation were generously supplied by Dr. C. T. Mason, Jr. Analytical methods were the same as reported by Tatsuno and Scogin (1978) for studies of Crossosoma. Results The chemical constituents of Apacheria chiricahuensis are shown in Ta ble 1. Also shown for comparison are the corresponding constituents from Crossosoma species reported by Tatsuno and Scogin (1978). Flavonoid compounds (flavones and flavonols) are notably absent from the leaves and flowers of Apacheria, an unusual characteristic shared with both species of Crossosoma. -

Campylopoda was previously considered to include entities treated at the rank of species: A. abietinum, A. apachecum, A. blumeri, A. californicum, A. campylopodum , A. cyanocarpum, A. laricis, A. littorum, A. microcarpum, A. monticola , A. occidentale , A. siskiyouense , and A. tsugense . Morphology, host associations, levels of sympatry and genetic evidence are reviewed here and, in contrast, it is concluded that these taxa are best viewed as ecotypes of a single variable species. Formal nomenclature treating these taxa at the rank of subspecies is presented, following previous conventions for recognizing infraspecific taxa in dwarf mistletoes. KEY WORDS : Arceuthobium campylopodum , dwarf mistletoe, ecotype, subspecies, Viscaceae Arceuthobium (dwarf mistletoes, Viscaceae) has been of great interest to American plant morphologists, pathologists, and systematists since the late 1800s. This is the only genus in Viscaceae that naturally occurs in both the Old and New World. In contrast to most viscaceous mistletoes such as Viscum and Phoradendron , Arceuthobium is morphologically reduced with scale leaves (squamate habit) and small monochlamydeous flowers whose morphology varies little between species. The explosively dehiscent fruits are unique in the family and allow population expansion without requiring bird vectors. The adult shoots produce only a small amount of carbohydrate through photosynthesis, thus these mistletoes approach the holoparasitic condition (Nickrent & García 2009). -

PLANNING AREA: The GCP Planning Area is shown in Figure 1. The area generally encompasses the Santa Maria Valley, San Antonio Creek Watershed, Lompoc Valley, Santa Ynez Valley, and a portion of the Santa Barbara Coastline.
