Event open to the General Public 4-H and other community youth, parents, and 4-H leaders are invited to attend Family Learning Day at UW Fond du Lac. Learn a new skill or gain fresh ideas. It will be a fun, informative day. Parents are encouraged to spend the day with their child and to help them find their sessions. Cost is $10 for 4-H members/leaders and $12 for community youth. 8:15 – 8:45 am Check in – All participants MUST check in. Many people participate in this event, so plan to arrive early to allow for registration time prior to the 9 am session, so that you may get to your session before it starts. 9:00 – 10:00 am Session 1 10:15– 11:45 am Session 2 11:45 am – 12:30 Lunch will be available at the campus for $6.00: Hot dogs, mac and cheese, cookie, and pm lemonade. You must sign up during the registration process if you would like a lunch. You may bring a bag lunch if you wish. 12:30 – 2:00 pm Session 3 2:15 – 3:15 pm Session 4

• Registration begins December 26, 2018 at 8am and ends January 16, 2019, at 4:30 pm. Participants may attend four (4) workshops until they are filled to capacity. Payment for this event and lunch must be mailed to the UW Extension Office by January 25, 2019 to hold your sessions. • Register for this event, along with the sessions that you are interested in attending, at “4Honline.com”. Once you log into the site, scroll down the screen to the section that invites you to register for an event. • Parents and 4-H leaders are invited and encouraged to attend. If you attend with a child to help them out, the adult does not need to register, but please indicate that you will be working with your child to allow for adequate seating. When working with your child, remember, this is their learning day, so please refrain from doing the project for them. If the adult will do an activity on their own, they must register. • Registration priority is given to children for workshops filled to capacity. • For your own information, record the sessions that you registered for. Save this flier and refer to it for your schedule. • Please register early! Sessions may fill up quickly. • On the day of the event, check in takes 15 minutes. Arrive early so you are on time for your first session.

CHILD CARE: FREE CHILD CARE for all 4 sessions will be available for children age 1 and older. Please note the session numbers, names, and age of children when registering online in the “Other” box.

Volunteers (members age 11 and older and adults) are needed to work in the child care room. If interested in volunteering, please call the UW Extension Office at (920) 929-3174.

If an adult is only attending to be with a child, rather than to be enrolled, please note that on the child's registration in the “Other” box.

PLEASE print your invoice from "4-H Online" and mail a CHECK payable to the FDL Co Adult Leaders Assn. (UW Extension Office, Attn: 4-H, 400 University Drive, RM AE227, Fond du Lac, WI 54935). Cost is $10 for 4-H members/leaders and $12 for community youth, not including lunch. Payment must be received by January 25, 2019 to hold your sessions. If there are 3 or more children attending from the same immediate family, the charge for the third and fourth child is reduced by $2.00 each. Session 1 9:00-10:00 a.m. 101 Photography Basics Presenter: Roxanne Abler Discover the basics of photography! We’ll cover terms like focal point, composition, focus, and how to create more interesting photos by using light, color, perspectives, and other simple techniques. I will discuss a little about the photography project in 4- H, and how to enter your photos into the fair. Parents are encouraged to sit in with younger members, especially those who are entering their first year in the photography project. Bring a notebook & pen. Class is taught by a professional photographer. (Ages 8+) 102 Which One Should I Pick? Presenters: McKinley and Karlene Krueger Want to learn what a judge is looking for when selecting your animal? You will discover and learn the main items to look for when purchasing/selecting an animal for the fair in beef, sheep, goats, & swine. We will have some fun with it too. 103 Macramé a Bracelet Presenters: Pam Bartoli and Cassie Burke Not only can macramé adorn the walls in the home, but also from neck, to wrist, to ankle, it can be beautiful and bold jewelry. Come learn how to make the square knot and half-hitch knot into a bracelet. (Ages 9 and up) 104 Ceramics: Cows and Pigs Presenter: JoAnn Hall We will paint cows or pigs. Bring brushes if you have them and a box to take your project home in. Wear old clothes. (All Ages) 105 Creative Cupcake Decorating Presenters: Makayla and Sharon Stommel You will be decorating 5 different kinds of cupcakes. You will make a flower, butterfly, penguin, owl, and a monkey. You will use cookies, marshmallows, pretzels, and candy for decorating. (Grades 3 and older) 106 Veterinary Science Skillathon Presenters: Deb Senn and Sadie Gallagher Test your knowledge and skill of the animal kingdom. Participants will rotate through a series of stations after which there will be a review of the information presented. Ideas for fair projects will be discussed. (Grade 7+) 107 Learning Color Hue’s Presenters: Machaia Rhoades and JoAnn Critchley Who ever knew the love of learning could be so colorful! Painting with acrylic paint making a finished picture, while learning about color. Bring a paint shirt. 108 Introduction to Card Making Presenters: Christine Bertram and Gina Buelow Introduction to card making and go home with 2 beautiful handmade cards. Learn the 5 key things needed to make cards. (Ages 9 and up) 109 Resume Writing Presenter: Cindy Holzman Learn how to draft a resume targeted for specific jobs. Learn the latest trends in resume development. (Ages 13 & up) 110 Rabbits Presenter: Bailey Wetzel I will be covering how to take care of and raise rabbits. I will also talk about how to show them. 111 Pinecone Wreath Presenter: Lorna Bock Pinecone wreath assembled on coat hanger and decorated for Christmas season. (Ages 9 and up) 112 Make your own Board Game Presenters: Caitlin and McKenzie Oelke You will be making your own board game to take home. 113 Leaf Bowl Presenters: Tonille and Rick Westphal Make an artificial leaf bowl. 114 Clay Sculpting 101 Presenters: Katie and Matt Schumacher Exercise your creativity skills by learning the tools for clay sculpting and make a basic of clay. (Ages 10 and up) 115 What’s in Your Water? Presenter: Diana Hammer We will do WI groundwater trivia to learn about the water you drink from your private well. Tests will be available for purchase from the Health Dept. Bring previous well test results if you have them, and we’ll answer your questions to learn how to keep environment and water safe from contamination. 116 Lemonade Day Presenter: Bernadette Seefeld Join us to learn about starting your own small business – a lemonade stand! We will have fun together and you’ll learn how to open and run a stand for the Fond du Lac Area Lemonade Day on May 4, 2019. (Grades 4 – 6, Adults welcome)

Wear old clothes. 202 Wildlife: Indoor – Outdoor - Anywhere Presenters: Barb and Norb Yogerst You will make animal tracks, identify them, and determine what your critter eats and where it lives. Learn how to identify pelts, skulls, and scat of the critters. (All Ages) 203 Volunteers in Preparation – Orientation for New Volunteers Presenter: Amy Mangan-Fischer Any new UWEX volunteer must attend this training. Provides an overview of UW-Extension, clarifies the volunteer role, shares the policy on reporting of child abuse/neglect, deepens understanding of youth development and how you teach young people. There is no fee if this is the only session you are participating in. 204 Dodge Ball/Capture the Flag Presenters: Mekena Gerlikovski, Evie Ganske, McKinley Krueger, Matt Schumacher Want to learn how to play Dodge Ball and Capture the Flag? Here is your chance! Come have some fun and learn at the same time. (All Ages) 205 EZ “Barbie Doll” Blanket Presenter: Jennifer Ladwig Learn to knit with “loopy yarn”. No needles or hooks required! Finger knit a small, super soft blanket fit for a small doll. Approximate finished size 8 ¾” x 11”. We will be discussing the fundamentals of photography and how to compose better photographs. Please bring a digital camera with you, if you have one. (Grades 6 and up) 207 Fun with Fondant Presenters: Deb Senn and Sadie Gallagher Have fun playing with fondant and creating unique edible decorations for cupcakes, cakes, and cookies. Fondant and cupcakes will be provided, and recipes will be shared. (Grades 3 and up) 208 Food Easy as 1, 2, 3 Presenters: Karlene and Brooklyn Krueger, and Tina Engelhart Learn how to make simple foods when having family and friends over. Learn how to make healthy snacks as well. (All Ages) 209 Painting the Whimsical Tree Presenters: JoAnn Critchley, Yvonne Tackes, Machaia Rhoades Painting a whimsical tree with acrylic paint on canvas. Making a product that is surprisingly beautiful. Wear old clothes. 210 Iris Folding with Ribbons/Cards Presenters: Merry Klemme and Asa Tarjeson Iris folding is an old art form. We will be doing a modified form of iris folding. Using cardstock, ribbon, tape, and art patterns, we will create 3 greeting cards. (Ages 8 and up) 211 Family Game Night Presenters: Evie and Jen Niemczyk Come try some old favorite games and test out a new favorite game! Bring friends and make some new ones as you challenge each other with strategy, skill, and some luck! To complete the experience, snacks will be provided.. (Ages: 5 – 8 with parent, and older) 212 Introduction to Card Making Presenters: Christine Bertram and Gina Buelow Introduction to card making and go home with 3 beautiful handmade cards. Participants will be provided with patterns, paper, and frames for 2 projects. (Ages 8 and up) 215 Iron-on T-Shirts Presenter: Kelly Lamb Create your own custom T-shirt with iron on vinyl. Choose your shirt size and one of several designs, and then learn how to “weed” the design and apply it to your shirt. (Ages 9 and up) 217 Scale Model Mini Gardens Presenters: Joseph and Nadine Krahn You will learn the basics of creating your own mini-themed container garden. Create a traditional fairy garden or build a microhabitat around any theme or mini characters you want. Some fun ideas include Lego, Minecraft, Star Wars, dinosaurs, jungle or zoo animals, hobbits and dwarves, and even Avenger and Superheroes! You will learn how to create, plant, and care for your new mini garden. We will also teach you how to make some homemade props to enhance your new world. We will provide plants, containers and have some props on hand for you to use, or bring your own if you have something in mind. Be prepared to get your hands dirty! Class notes: if you bring your own container, no larger than 14” x 18”, look for mini characters and props at thrift stores, rummage sales, hobby stores and nursery/greenhouses, and sometimes it helps to have a “WOW” prop to build your world around such as a house or larger item. (Ages 10 and up)

We’ll discuss cameras and lenses, and learn photography terms such as focus, the exposure triangle (shutter speed, aperture, ISO), depth of field, and more. This session is strictly for high-school age and up. Participants ideally should already own a DSLR or mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses. Bring your camera along! Session is taught by a professional photographer. (All Ages) 402 No-sew Sock Snowman craft Presenter: Tonille Westphal Cute adorable snowmen made of socks. Parents please accompany younger childern. (All Ages) 403 New Family Orientation Presenter: Amy Mangan-Fischer All new 4-H families are welcomed to this session to learn more about the 4-H Program, projects, record books, fair, etc. Join us, have fun, and meet other new members.
