For some, it’s been a horrible year. For many, it’s been a year to forget. For me personally, I’ve enjoyed being able to spend more time at home. Whatever your situation, I’m sure it will be a year you will remember. Regardless, we are blessed we are not surrounded by record fires such as California or Washington, nor do we have to deal with a record, repetitive hurricane season as Louisiana has seen. No matter what your situation is in life, we can either look at the glass as half empty or half full. I try to follow the latter. For us as a club, we have had a very limited season. For a car club such as ours, not having car shows is like an ice cream stand not selling ice cream. But, given what 2020 has been, we have been able to keep some activities going, and some of them will likely continue once COVID-19 is in our rearview mirror. I certainly thank you for understanding our challenges and for your participation and continued support. Earlier today we had our historic cemetery tour. We saw some very interesting sites and learned about some very interesting history around the Chicago area. The weather was a little chilly, but certainly better than Halloween 2019 when it snowed. You’ll see a good story and pictures in this newsletter, so I don’t want to go into the details, but I do want to thank Mark Rizzo for not only suggesting this tour, but especially for organizing the whole thing. Mark did a fantastic job and thought of everything. I know this was no small event to organize, so I want to let him know that those of us who attended (26 I believe), really appreciated all his hard work. It was the perfect way to tour and remain outdoors. Thank you Mark!!! Unless you’ve been sheltering so deep in the depths of your home, you probably realize that it is election season here across the country. This is the big one; president, senators, representatives, judges, state level, county level, city level, and yes, the biggest one: West of the Lake Region Board of Directors. I want to thank Jim, Ron, Valerie, Dan, and Paul for their efforts and cohesiveness to steer this club as best we can in these unusual times. For our election this year, I have good news and bad news. Bad news first they say, so the bad news is that you, the members, don’t have much of a choice on the ballot. No new candidates stepped up. The good news is that all the existing Board members are running again. You can either choose to re-elect the existing Board, or you can submit a write in candidate for any position. Like many people are doing for their other elections, I ask that you mail your ballot in this year because there is a good chance that we cannot meet in person for the November meeting. Therefore, you will not be able to hand in your ballot. You’ll find your ballot at the end of this newsletter. As this is the November newsletter, I want to remind everyone that this will also be your last newsletter for the year. You can expect your next one in March 2021. I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Remember, the glass is always half full (in reality, it is overflowing with blessings if we take the time to look hard enough). I also want to wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, and Happy New Year! No matter how you choose to celebrate your holidays, I hope that they are enjoyable. Most importantly, I hope the months ahead are happy and healthy for you and all your loved ones! We’ll see you down the road in 2021. Equity | 10 May 2019 Car Wars thesis and investment relevance Car Wars is an annual proprietary study that assesses the relative strength of each automaker’s product pipeline in the US. The purpose is to quantify industry product trends, and then relate our findings to investment decisions. Our thesis is fairly straightforward: we believe replacement rate drives showroom age, which drives market United States Autos/Car Manufacturers share, which drives profits and stock prices. OEMs with the highest replacement rate and youngest showroom age have generally gained share from model years 2004-19. John Murphy, CFA Research Analyst Ten key findings of our study MLPF&S +1 646 855 2025 1. Product activity remains reasonably robust across the industry, but the ramp into a [email protected] softening market will likely drive overcrowding and profit pressure. Aileen Smith Research Analyst 2. New vehicle introductions are 70% CUVs and Light Trucks, and just 24% Small and MLPF&S Mid/Large Cars. The material CUV overweight (45%) will likely pressure the +1 646 743 2007 [email protected] segment’s profitability to the low of passenger cars, and/or will leave dealers with a Yarden Amsalem dearth of entry level product to offer, further increasing an emphasis on used cars. Research Analyst MLPF&S 3. • List of ACEA Member Company Petrol Vehicles Compatible with Using “E10” Petrol
List of ACEA member company petrol vehicles compatible with using “E10” petrol Important note applicable for the complete list hereunder: The European Fuel Quality Directive (1) introduced a new market petrol specification from 1st January 2011 that may contain up to 10%vol (% by volume) ethanol (commonly known as “E10”). It is up to the individual country of the European Union and fuel marketers to decide if and when to introduce E10 petrol to the market For vehicles equipped with a spark-ignition (petrol) engine introduced into the EU market, this list indicates their compatibility (or otherwise) with the use of E10 petrol. Note: In countries that offer E10 petrol, before you fill your vehicle with petrol please check that your vehicle is compatible with the use of E10 petrol. If, by mistake, you put E10 petrol into a vehicle that is not declared compatible with the use of E10 petrol, it is recommended that you contact your local vehicle dealer, the vehicle manufacturer or roadside assistance provider who may advise that the fuel tank be drained. If it is necessary to drain the fuel from the tank then you should ensure it is done by a competent organisation and the tank is refilled with the correct grade of petrol for your vehicle. Owners experiencing any issues when using E10 petrol are advised to contact their local vehicle dealer or vehicle manufacturer and to use instead 95RON (or 98RON) petrol that might be identified by “E5” (or have no specific additional marking) in those countries that offer E10 petrol. Other information: The European Fuel Quality Directive (1) requires that countries of the European Union that introduce E10 petrol must ensure that sufficient volumes of today’s petrol (sometimes described as E5) are available for vehicles that are not compatible with the use of E10 petrol.
