The last Tuesday in January is dedicated to this spectacle every year. Many thousands of locals and tourists come specifically to celebrate this regional festival with its Scandinavian cultural heritage. The Fire Festival of the North, sometimes also referred to as the "Viking Carnival", is supported by the widespread belief of the Shetland Islanders in their own Scandinavian roots and the need to counteract the hard dark winter with the power of the fire. During months of preparation, the "part-time Vikings" recreate a magnificent Viking long ship. Unfortunately, it is destined from the start to be sacrificed to the flames on the day of the "Up Helly Aa" following a long torchlit procession with rousing battle songs. The well-known Scottish transport company Garriock Bros Ltd. was engaged to bring the ship safely to its destination. With branches in Lerwick and Brae on the Shetland Islands as well as in Kirkwall on Orkney, the company is perfectly positioned on the island groups north of Scotland. The vehicles of the Garriock fleet, four of which are Scania 8x4 trucks and a Scania tractor unit, are all equipped with PALFINGER cranes. Two PK 29002, a PK 36002, a PK 44002 and a PK 40002 EH are used to transport and manipulate roof trusses, containers, fishing nets, lifeboats and all types of similar heavy loads which are part and parcel of island life. As a long-term loyal customer of OUTREACH and wanting only to work with the best products available in the market, the only brand that Garriock Bros Ltd. is prepared to consider is PALFINGER! .
