Roselaar Introduction During a Round Table Discussion convened by Dr Walter Bock and Dr Henri Ouellet at the XXI International Ornithological Congress in Vienna, 20–25 August 1994, a number of staff members of European ornithological collections expressed the opinion that more cooperation among them was desirable. Many museums suffer from shrinking budgets, making improvement, maintenance, or even access to the collections difficult. Maintaining the world’s biodiversity is of major concern among biologists at the moment, and although this concern is also acknowledged by various governments it has not resulted in any additional support for museum ornithology. Bird collections form a rich source of biodiversity data. Taxonomic information in regional and global handbooks can only be extracted from museum collections. Morphometric data taken from skins of various populations are of importance for unravelling migration patterns for instance. Population studies profit from collections of specimens of known age and sex. Reference collections for identification and training will always be needed, both for laymen (e.g. rarity committees) and scientists (e.g. as help in enforcement of CITES and other national and international nature conservation legislation, for the statistics of bird/aircraft collisions, archaeology, and in ecological studies). Recently, bird skins or feathers have acquired additional relevance as a source of DNA for phylogenetic and population studies. Biochemical data have become a major source of phylogenetic information, from the level of populations up to the level of phyla, but can only be interpreted with reference to collections of entire organisms. -

The Sorolla and Fashion show (1,418) at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid, which paired portraits by the Spanish artist with period-appropriate clothing, was the institution’s third most popular exhibition. The Spanish museum is putting this winning formula to the test again with its forthcoming exhibition Balenciaga and Spanish Painting, which is due to open in June. The Wallace Collection in London is also preparing to capitalise on the public’s interest in fashion with an exhibition, due to open in June, on the shoe designer Manolo Blahnik. APESHIT AT THE LOUVRE It was a record year for the Musée du Louvre in Paris, both in terms of its overall attendance and its staging of the most popular exhibition in its history. With a whopping 10.2 million visitors in 2018, the 226-year-old French institution comfortably retains its title Fashion provides winning formula as the most popular art museum in our survey. Its major show on the quintes- sential 19th-century French Romantic Eugène Delacroix was seen by record Met tops the charts with a heady mix of religion and None of the exhibitions mounted by museums respectively. -

It is the world's only institution dedicated to the industry-wide preservation of information processing devices and documentation. It interprets computer history through exhibits, publications, videotapes, lectures, educational programs, excursions, and special events. Hours and Services The Digital Computer Museum is open to the public Sunday through Friday, 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. There is no charge for admission. The Digital Computer Museum Lecture Series Lectures focus on benchmarks in computing history and are held six times a year. All lectures are videotaped and archived for scholarly use. Gallery talks by computer historians, staff members and docents are offered every Wednesday at 4:00 and Sunday at 3:00. Guided group tours are available by appointment only. Books, posters, postcards, and other items related to the history of computing are available for sale at the Museum Store.
