WWW.OK.CO.UK 9 Will you find out the gender this time? We’re not going to find out. We want to keep it as a surprise.

Do you have any inkling about what you’re having? I don’t know! With Mexx, everyone had their opinion. Even my midwife was like, “I think it’s a girl!” Everyone thought it was a girl, so then I thought it was a girl.

Would you quite like a girl this time? Everyone says this, but I think it’s more magnified when you’re actually having a baby that you just want them to be healthy, so I really don’t mind. I didn’t mind with Mexx, either. I’m happy with whatever I’m given. Mexx is the best little thing in the world so if I get another boy, fabulous, if I get a girl and she’s like me, then we’re going to have chaos! ‘IFTHEBABYIS LIKEMEWE’RE GOINGTOHAVE CHAOS!’

Why do you say that? I’m just chaos! Mexx has Kean’s temperament because he’s quite laid- back and really chilled, whereas I’m 100 miles per hour and everything has to be done yesterday.

Have you thought about names for the second baby? We had a couple of names with Mexx, because we didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl. So I’m thinking, “What do you do with the second? Do you find a new name that you love?” We absolutely still love some of the names we were speaking about for Mexx. It’s strange because once you see them, you know whether the name suits them or not.

Do you know what kind of birth you want this time? I’m not really fussed. I didn’t have a birth plan before because they never go to plan. I’m just so chilled with the procedure. I was chilled with Mexx and I’m going to be with this one – there’s no point worrying about it!

Mexx has just turned one. Are you worried about having two under two? I’m quite chilled about it. I’m really lucky with Mexx, because he’s a good baby. But

12 WWW.OK.CO.UK 13 Would you like any more children in the future? More than one was definitely something we wanted so that they could grow up together. I said the other day, “When do you get to the point of being like, right, this is our last child?” But if we end up with two, three, four children, then it is what it is.

Is marriage on the cards next? We’ve always spoken about marriage, but I don’t necessarily think a ring on my finger is going to change our relationship. I’m glad that I didn’t get married before having Mexx. We’d be marrying as a family now, and that’s what we’d get married for, to become one. I’d want my babies there.

Your friend and former Coronation Street co-star Helen Flanagan is also pregnant. Have you guys given each other advice? Helen always gets a little bit poorly when she’s pregnant so it’s really hard for her. I don’t think I could give any advice to Helen because she’s bossing it at the minute being super mum!

Do you have plans to return to Coronation Street as Sophie Webster? I do, but I’ve been in Corrie from the age of 11, so I feel like it’s a natural break for me to have – having kids and being a mum. It goes so quick. Mexx is one and I don’t know where that time has gone. I would really regret not being at home with them as much as I can be. While I can stay off work, I’m going to. OK!

We were sitting at the dining table with her book and papers and pens and I remember Jack walking in and saying, ‘Is everything alright?’ as he’d never seen us do that before.” Whether it’s hard-hitting interviews with political figures or topical discussions about anything and everything, Ruth tells us she’s equally happy to wear her This Morning and Loose Women hats. “I love them both. They’re very, very different dynamics. With Loose Women you’re never sure what you’re going to be talking about. Often the topics will come from someone coming in one morning and going, ‘You’ll never guess what happened to me yesterday.’ I love that side of it, that the show evolves from what’s happening in our own lives – and I think that’s what resonates with viewers. “Recently, I’ve been talking a lot about Jack flying the nest,” she says of the couple’s 18-year-old son, who has just started university. His departure was obviously a huge wrench for the star who was aged 43 when she had him. Jack is her only child and Eamonn’s fourth, alongside Declan, 31, Rebecca, 29, and Niall, 27, from his first marriage to Gabrielle Holmes. “I felt absolutely bereft the first week,” Ruth confesses. “But he’s settled really well. 44 I haven’t been out much and everyone’s wearing masks, so I’m not really being recognised. But to get the MBE – and to celebrate that with my family and know I was there when people were struggling with mental health – was amazing.

Speaking of which, you filmed an Instagram video about your own mental health struggles. How are you doing now? That was a moment in time. The next day I was fine, but all it takes is a tweet or a news article and it brings you back and resets you to that “Nothing is going to happen this year, Christmas is ruined” place, so I am trying to focus on today and be present. I don’t want to think about the things I’m not doing or I can’t do. I want to think about the fact I’m in the house with my beautiful children and we are all healthy. It’s about bringing that perspective back to my day. That’s helping a lot.

You mentioned on Russell Brand’s podcast how stressful it has been to be locked down with little ones. Have you found more of a routine now? Yeah, it’s having that space to go out for a little while – get some fresh air and break the day up. Last night, Rosie went out for a few hours and I had Marley and Indie, and it’s a game of distraction. You’re distracting one, trying to keep one from crying, carrying one… It’s a juggling act. KATEWINSLETAND SAOIRSERONAN TALKTOOK!ABOUT GETTINGINTIMATE ONSETANDWHY THEY’RESOPROUD OFTHEIRON-SCREEN CHEMISTRY

hen we chat to Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan about their new film Ammonite, it’s clear there is a huge amount of Wchemistry between the actresses. In fact, the pair credit each other for feeling “safe” and “comfortable”, making their love scenes very easy to perform. The film is set in Lyme Regis, Dorset, and Kate, 45, plays palaeontologist Mary Anning, who blazed a trail in terms of her fossil findings in 1840s England. Saoirse, 26, portrays married geologist Charlotte Murchison, who Mary falls in love with. The actresses threw themselves into their characters, with Oscar winner Kate admitting that she cut herself off from the rest of the cast in order to get into the zone. The mum-of-three, who’s married to Richard Branson’s nephew Edward Abel Smith (also known as Ned Rocknroll), even says she got addicted to fossil hunting! Here, Kate and Saoirse tell OK! how knowing what women want helped them to tackle the roles...

You two clearly have great chemistry. Had you met before you started filming? Kate: We had met each other before and we knew a lot of the same people. So building our friendship was quite natural. It was seamless. I think we were very lucky. Saoirse: We actually interviewed each other a few years ago and we did this photoshoot together. I had a good sense of how she worked and I knew we were quite similar. I’m not as organised as Kate. Kate takes organisation to a whole new level. There’s a lot of stickers involved!

It was the only thing she knew to do and it made her happy. How did you feel when you watched the sex scenes back? Did you learn to fossil hunt? Kate: When we were making the film, I deliberately kept myself separate. I lived outside of Lyme Regis where everybody else was living. Saoirse would laugh at me because I’d go home, make soup, sit, write, work on the scenes for the next day, go to bed, get up and I’d do the same thing. I tried to adopt the routine that Mary had in her day-to-day existence. It helped me to stay rooted in her, but also it helped me to feel less anxious. I felt quite nervous playing the part and every day I would think, “Oh God, the accent,” and “What are people going to make of me playing this role?” I was quite panicked by it.

Did working with Saoirse help you to relax? Kate: When Saoirse and I started working together in rehearsals, it became clear that the collaboration between the two of us was really just going to be fun and terrifically rewarding.

Saoirse, your character Charlotte was also a fossil fanatic, wasn’t she? Saoirse: Yes, she was very interested in botany and fossils. And actually, the real-life Charlotte became much more interested in that and was a lot better at it than her husband was. She was desperate for him to get involved in that world for a very long time before he did. So it was really helpful to have that knowledge about her before.

You started filming this straight after Little Women. Was it a very different experience? Saoirse: Yes, that was such a jam-packed production with a lot of actors. To go into this where I knew it was essentially going to be the two of us, I was really looking forward to just bringing that quiet back into a performance.

How scary was it climbing up the cliffs? Kate: Cliffs and not having stunt doubles – that was the least of my worries! The cliffs and the howling gales, I don’t care about that stuff, it’s the acting part that was terrifying every day! OK!

Ferne is devoted to her daughter Sunday

60 FIRSTTIMEMUMSTAR FERNEMcCANN OPENSUP ABOUTBEINGASINGLE PARENTATANDHOLDING OUTFORAHAPPYENDING

f anyone was due a year of good luck and a new beginning, it was Ferne McCann. But the nationwide lockdown in March proved too much for her budding transatlantic relationship Iwith ex-boyfriend Albie Gibbs, and the pair decided to call it a day just a few months later. Now happily single and devoted to raising her two-year-old daughter Sunday, Ferne has spent the months of isolation learning to love and appreciate her life as it is. However, she is still holding out for her Hallmark happy ever after. It may be hard to believe, but the former TOWIE cast member also celebrated a milestone birthday in August, hitting the big 3-0. And despite a little wobble at the thought of entering a new decade, Ferne says she’s never been happier. With her First Time Mum reality show back on ITVBe, a gorgeous daughter to dote on and a new beauty collaboration with Poundland just hitting stores, Ferne is finding her stride after struggling with “dark times and demons”. Here, the star talks about how she’s getting called up on childhood marriage pacts, swapping Essex glam for mum WhatsApp chats, and growing old just a little bit ungracefully…

Happy belated birthday, Ferne! How does it feel being 30? One day I love it and the next day I remember I’m a grown a** woman. A proper adult. Sometimes I look at myself and I think, “Wow, you’re like a boss 30-year-old winning at life.” Now is actually the first time ever that I feel 100% happy and content. I know there will always be a few things that won’t be perfect but I feel really good about myself.

Are you single and ready to mingle? Still single but I’m happy with that! Then again, the next minute I’m having a wobble and I’m going, “I’m still single at 30 and there’s no sign of getting married!” When I was younger I was like, “OK when I’m 30 I’m going to get married, have three kids, have five dogs, and I’m going to be cooking every night.” But then I’m still sitting here thinking about having five glasses of wine on a night with my girls.

Did you ever make a marriage pact with anyone when you were younger? Oh my God, so there’s this guy, I won’t name him, but we always said if we were still single by 30 then we would get married. He actually messaged me the other day! I was like, “Well, I guess we should get married then!”

So just Netflix romances for you now then? You know what, I’m so excited to sit and watch those c****y low-budget Christmas films – the Hallmark ones. They just make me feel better about life because I feel like you can potentially have something like that happen to you. My “guy” is a big rock star touring the world and he comes back and he’s like, “Ferne, you’re the girl for me.”

WWW.OK.CO.UK 61 So no more ‘tweakments’ for you then? I think you’ve got to strike a balance. I love a bit of tweaking here and there, especially now I’m a 30-year-old woman. I’m very aware that we’re living in a world where we have filters, but if lockdown has taught me anything, it’s to learn to love myself.

Speaking of filters, you’ve got a big social following. How do you deal with negativity on social media? I think it’s a shame sometimes that you feel like you have to second guess yourself. I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t. But I guess, maturing and being in this industry, you learn. In the end, you can only filter yourself so much, and I like to try to be real in my stories.

You’ve posted on your fitness page, Embodyment With Ferne, about mental health. Is this a conversation you felt you wanted to join now? It’s really important to me to use my platform in a positive way. Being honest, I have had struggles and faced some serious dark times and demons, and I’m so for talking about it, but sometimes, I feel like I want to do a post saying: “Just because you’re not joining in on the conversation does not mean you’re not supporting it.”

You must be in some good ‘mum chat’ WhatsApp groups you can vent on? Yes, we’re all mums now in my main group of girls. I can’t even tell you what our group is called, but it’s a four letter swear word. I also have a nursery mum WhatsApp group. They’re all really nice, but it ddrainsrains my bbattery.atter

Is it too early to ask you about ChChristmasrist plans? NNo,o, I had the Christmas songs plpplayinga on a shoot the other daday! Here’s the perma-youthful Penélope Cruz showing off her new eye lift. No, not the surgical variety – the 46-year-old actress is the face of Lancôme’s new Rénergie Yeux Multi-Lift Ultra, £49.50, an eye cream that promises to work wonders on eye contours. The brand claims an anti-sagging result in eight weeks, as well as a plumping filler-like effect on wrinkles and a reduction in dark circles. And if two months sounds like a long time to defy gravity, the formula also contains light-reflecting pearls for an instant “bright-eyed and bushy-tailed” look.

WHERETOSTAY Holiday Club Kuusamo is a one-stop shop for festive fun, with two restaurants – Mango and O’Leary’s Sports Bar (think burgers and ribs) – and a bowling alley. We were provided with padded thermal snowsuits, gloves, boots and hats for the duration of our stay, which saved on expensive purchases beforehand. As the 211-room hotel (with self-catering apartments in the annexe) is surrounded by snowy hills, it’s perfect for practising your sledding skills. If that wasn’t enough exercise for day one, the hotel boasts a huge Angry Birds Activity Park with a kids’ racing track, trampolines and an outdoor frisbee golf course. And to wind down, the tropical oasis-themed indoor pool is heated to OK! loved a toasty 32 degrees! husky Celebrities aren’t immune to a sprinkling of sledding festive magic, with Margot Robbie and Shakira having loved Lapland. Carly Rae Jepsen even The Sound WHYGO filmed her music video for here. Who said Christmas is cancelled?! Even though celebrating won’t be quite the same in the UK this year with Christmas markets and other group activities ruled out, the festive magic lives on in Finnish Lapland. And while 2020 may be a year to forget for many, the chance to make it truly unforgettable still exists. There’s never been a better time to treat your little ones and indulge your own inner child, than on a visit to Lapland with TUI, which is running its Santa holidays from 2 December. There are coronavirus restrictions in place and you’ll only be able to chat to Santa through a window, but there’s still husky sledding, snowmobiling and reindeer sleigh rides to enjoy. Accompanied by their six-year-old son, OK! jetted off on a festive flight to Finland buzzing with anticipation at the treats that awaited us. On arriving at the edge of the Arctic Circle, it was only a short The heated 15-minute scenic transfer through rows of indoor pool snow-blanketed pine trees to our hotel.

Seeing our son being fitted for skis and boots for the very first time was definitely a proud parent moment and the Village-2-Valley gondola soon had us on the slopes. Boasting one of Finland’s largest beginner ski areas, without the crowds usually associated with alpine resorts and with guaranteed snow, it’s hard to think of a better location for children to learn. There are plenty of wooden huts to stop at for a warming hot chocolate, too. It wasn’t long before we both slalomed down the wide pistes of the Rosa and Rudolph Park that also boasts a snow park, a superpipe for snowboarders and a snow tubing track. Having worked up a huge appetite, MUST-DOACTIVITIES OK! ate at Villisika, a family restaurant in No Christmas story would be complete Ruka village. After checking if the children had been naughty or nice, presents were dispensed, but not before he merrily told his captivated audience some Finnish tales and taught everyone a local song Joulupukki, Joulupukki. he romantic dramas in ITVBe’s The Only Way Is Essex are ever changing, but one partnership that has remained rock steady is that of TTommy Mallet and Georgia Kousoulou. Tommy, now 28, told OK! at our exclusive 2016 shoot, “We broke the TOWIE curse… We’re real. We don’t live our life for TV like someome couples. We don’t hide things from each other and then say, ‘I’ve got something to tell Georgia but I’m going to do it next Wednesday when we’re filming so everyone sees it.’” He summarised, “Our relationship means more than a TV show.” In 2016, they were mainly living at Georgia’s family home, which was the location of the shoot. Since then, Tommy has expanded his business, Mallet London, and the pair are preparing to move into a mansion. Despite recently joking on TOWIE that Georgia’s a gold-digger, the couple proved that they’ve always seen each other as equals. “We have each other’s backs until the end. He encourages me to be the best I can be and I’m so proud of him,” Georgia, now 29, told us. Talk quickly turned to the next big TOWIE proposal, too. “I’ll do it somewhere nice and fly her friends out there, too, so we can go straight into the engagement party,” Tommy explained. “We’ll have a big Greek The couple and Irish-themed wedding. posed with You get to smash plates, Georgia’s do some mad Greek dog, Ralph dancing and pin £50 notes on each other!” “When we first met, I said, ‘I’m going to marry you,’” Georgia continued. “I remember saying to people, ‘Oh my God, I love him,’ and everyone was like, ‘That’s a bit soon.’ But for us it wasn’t rushed at all.” The pair famously made their relationship official when Tommy carved “Be my gf?” into pumpkins on camera. Having recently survived another series of the reality show, they’ve clocked up six years They were living at The pair have together – the longest Georgia’s parents’ been together relationship played out home in 2016 for six years on TOWIE.
