Notes for Parents

We want your learning time to be an enjoyable experience. Use the different levels to ensure your child is first of all happy and second of all appropriately challenged. Apples provides a basic level of Year 1 learning and Bananas offers a trickier challenge.

Please bear in mind the following key Year 1 writing targets:

Non-negotiables for writing  Capital letters  Finger spaces  Full stops  Spelling words using phonics – this means your child‟s spelling is highly unlikely to be perfect! This is what we are looking for when we see your child‟s work  Correctly spelt common exception words

Trickier challenges to include is writing where possible  Use „and‟ in a sentence  Use the suffixes –ed (walked, licked); -er (quicker, smaller); and –est (quickest, smallest)  Use exclamation marks  Use question marks  Use joined handwriting  Use adjectives

Reading a book is still a requirement in addition to this timetable – Remember to predict, question, summarise and clarify. Remember to draw upon your phonic knowledge.

Below you will find: 1. Hyperlinks – all websites mentioned in the above timetable with the hyperlinks still active 2. Resources – all resources required for this week‟s Home Learning 3. WAGOLL – examples of good writing 4. STEM Challenge – a tricky challenge for keen mathematicians! The Resources section includes a range of visuals that are similar to what we would normally use in the classroom to help the children with their learning. Whereas some are required in order to complete a certain task, others are just there to provide support if it is needed. As always, please prioritise your child‟s happiness; we want them to enjoy their Home Learning. I hope some of these resources will be useful to you. The WAGOLL section is also below as always.

I have started to grow some vegetables in pots so we do not have to dig up our small lawn. Why not try to grow some food of your own? What does a plant need to grow? There is one thing that you will need that could mean a visit to a shop … seeds. There might be seeds in your house, after all many of the fruit or vegetables that we eat have seeds.

I have used pots and cut up drinks bottles to make mini greenhouses for tomato plants:

Can you see the seeds?

Potatoes can be grown in a pot. Look for a small one Here are some more pictures from my garden. You can see lettuce, courgettes and runner beans that has started to „chit.‟ in garden pots:
