From: Stephen Dawson Sent: 20 February 2011 21:22 To: Reviews@ Subject: The Review Officer (Rushmoor) Dear Review Officer, I'm writing a follow up, from my email i sent you on the 13th of February, about Aldershot Garrison( North Camp), which is currently in St Marks ward Farnborough. And how i think it should form a new Aldershot Ward, which would link Aldershot Garrison to its Home Town of Aldershot. Aldershot Town Centre is the main place for Aldershot Garrison R & R, sharing its Leisure and Recreation facilities with Military & Civilian's. From Pubs, Clubs & Cinema to Restaurant's & Shopping. And the Military is the reason for Aldershot Town centres existence, as the Home Town of The British Army. Aldershot Town Centre is also where the Garrisons Home Coming Parades and Anniversaries Parades are held. Some links about some of the parades are below. http://www.gethampshire.co.uk/news/s/2072882_homecoming_parade_for_aldershot_ troops http://www.gethampshire.co.uk/news/s/2062007 crowds welcome soldiers home to _aldershot http://www.gethampshire.co.uk/news/s/36931_parade_celebrates_anniversary Aldershot still has a Military Pub, evidence of Military presence and Business's in Town Centre. link to website below; http://www.airborne-forces.com/traf.html The Garrison Church is in Wellington Ward. Aldershot Centre for Health has a whole floor dedicated to the Military. I have attached a file of where i think a Aldershot Garrison Ward should be, which the boundary is coloured blue. Lychford Road is the top boundary going down Government House Road, then following Farnborough Airport boundary. Then bottom boundary following Alisions Road, which will be the boundary between Aldershot Garrison and Aldershot Urban extension. Apart from Browning Barracks AUE housing, which is in the proposed new ward. I have also included the married quarters. I also attach Aspire December fact sheet about Aldershot Garrison which is a base for over 4,800 Army personnel. I assume this does not include wife's in married quarters. This would also include Soldier's from remaining AUE barracks ( Currently part of Wellington Ward) by 2014. Maybe If you had a ward made up of Aldershot Garrison (4,800 Army personnel) + wife's/husbands + Browning Barracks AUE housing maybe you have a solid Aldershot ward. And couldn't the ward could have a military name for Identity. some web links with more info; http://www.rushmoor.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=7538 This page mentioned the New Garrison presence will be North Camp with St Omers Barracks. http://www.rushmoor.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=7542 Project Connaught RBC page. What impact will the Project have on the local communities? How will it benefit them? Community interests have been considered and regular liaison with Local Authorities and community groups has taken place. It is envisaged that a particular benefit to arise from the Project will be the opportunities for closer integration between military and civilian communities. This could occur for example in areas such as further shared use of leisure, recreational and community centre facilities. this was from MOD website ; http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/AboutDefence/WhatWeDo/DefenceEstateandEn vironment/AllenbyConnaught/FrequentlyAskedQuestionsfaqs.htm Best Regards Stephen Dawson (Resident) PROJECT ALLENBY/CONNAUGHT ALDERSHOT FACT SHEET – AS AT END DECEMBER 2010 Facts on What PAC Has Delivered at Aldershot • 42 new buildings including: o Wellington House – HQ of Ald Gar and 77 AEC o 1 Junior Ranks Super Diner and 1 Pub o 21 new 36-man SLA blocks, 8 new 8-man houses o 1 Training Wing o 2 Offices o 3 Technical Stores/Workshop o Community Centre o 1 P+RTC and 1 Combat Sports Centre o 1 Guardroom and Armoury • 7 Refurbished/altered buildings • 101 Demolitions • 820 single en-suite bedspaces Key Milestones: • Contract Award - 31 March 2006 • Construction Start - May 2006 • Service Commencement - July 2006 • First Key Milestone – Wellington House - Oct 2007 • St Omer Phase 2 commenced - Jan 2009 • Construction phase completed - Dec 2014 • End of contract - 2041 Project Allenby/Connaught in Aldershot • 35-year contract with Aspire Defence Ltd • Home to approximately 4,800 • 101 New Buildings, 24 refurbished, 10 altered and 143 demolitions • Create, maintain and refurbish 2,500 single en-suite bedrooms • Local Help Desk available 24/7, 365 days a year • Junior Ranks Dining Centre delivered in Mar 2008.
