Your Logistics… Our Core Business…! Your Logistics… our core business…! Newsletter July 2011 Base Logistics looks back at the World Port Tournament Base Logistics was the official shirt sponsor of the Dutch Baseball Team during the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam that took place from 23 June to 3 July. Competing for the title at the event were Germany, Taiwan, Curaçao and Cuba, as well as the Netherlands. The host nation failed to make it to the finals, unfortunately, leaving Taiwan and Cuba to battle it out. It was Taiwan who eventually triumphed, in the tiebreak, to take the thirteenth World Port Tournament title. Even though the team from the Netherlands did not manage to claim the number one spot, we can nevertheless look back on a very successful event. A number of impressions from the tournament are given below. In addition to the World Port Tournament, Base Logistics also sponsors the Confederation of European Baseball. As a provider of logistics services, we are pleased to be able to assist in the distribution of baseball materials in Europe. For more information, please click here. Twitter Base Logistics As a leading provider of logistics services with a focus on innovation, Base Logistics is, naturally enough, on Twitter. Why not follow us: @BaseLogistics or http://twitter.com/#!/BaseLogistics. Klairy In spite of the fact that Klairy, our new logistics management tool, represents a total solution for many of our customers and business relations when it comes to managing their logistics, it is still being improved further. Several recent additions to the system include a complete On Time Performance report, various management reports and an enhanced print menu for labels and CMRs. You may notice new features in Klairy yourself, but we are happy to keep you up to date. Keep track of the latest developments on Twitter: @klairynews or http://twitter.com/#!/klairynews. Expansion of ISO certification and AEO ISO 9001:2008 The quality of our services has been at the heart of what we do ever since Base Logistics was founded, and since 2000 we have been certified in accordance with the standards set down in ISO 9001. Now too, eleven years later, Base Logistics has been assessed to see if it still complies with these quality norms, and has indeed received the approval of Lloyd’s Register Nederland B.V.. Moving towards ISO 13485 Because the area of focus of Base Logistics has expanded, we are currently in the process of preparing to gain certification in accordance with ISO 13485, in addition to our existing ISO 9001:2008 certification. The additional certification will enable us to better serve our customers in the medical technology industry, and to do so in line with the relevant legislation. AEO application Base Logistics is presently in the closing stages of applying for an Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) certificate – the European equivalent of the American Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT). This was set up by the American government in order to increase security in international freight transport, partly in response to the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. Possessing the AEO will mean Base Logistics can be considered as ‘safe and reliable’ in the field of international goods transport. In concrete terms, as far as our customers are concerned, it will result in Customs-related matters proceeding more quickly and more smoothly, and the number of physical and documentation inspections carried out by Customs being reduced. We will of course let you know as soon as Base Logistics has obtained AEO status definitively. Chamber of Commerce number: 23091701 registered office H.I. Ambacht Your Logistics… our core business…! Newsletter July 2011 Temperature-controlled spaces We know as well as anyone else that the legislation and regulations affecting our customers can and do change on a continual basis. One important area where this is the case is the conditions for storing high-grade goods. Because it is by no means unusual for temperatures in warehouses in the summer months to rise to high levels, and to drop sharply in the winter, Base Logistics is currently investing in a temperature-controlled space at our Zwijndrecht location. Extreme heat, cold and moisture can lead to the formation of cracks and corrosion of electronic components. In order to minimise these risks for our customers, we will soon have three different spaces at our disposal with a total surface area of 1700 m2 in which it will be possible to set the temperature at between 18°C and 28°C. An advanced computer system will ensure that the correct temperature is maintained. Any deviation of the temperature from the set level, for whatever reason, will trigger an alarm in order that corrective measures can be taken immediately. As well as guaranteeing the right temperature, the system can also provide a complete temperature history of your products. The combination of our preparations for the ISO 13485 certification, a high level of security (category 4) and the introduction of a temperature-controlled distribution centre represent a real solution for our customers in both the technological and medical technological industries. Pest Control Thanks to our collaboration with a relevant specialist company, our warehouse in Zwijndrecht is now completely safe from vermin, as well as from fire and unauthorised entry. Even though the warehouse had always been free from vermin, we have nonetheless taken extra preventive measures in order to make doubly certain it stayed that way. Our customers can therefore rest assured that their products are stored in a completely secure environment in which every risk has been reduced to an absolute minimum. Klairy training courses In recent months, we have organised various training courses in relation to the use of our renewed Transport and Warehouse Management System. This has proved to be an excellent eye-opener for many of our customers, with every relevant aspect of managing transport being covered. Because of the positive reception the courses have been given, we have decided to organise more sessions at our location in Zwijndrecht. If you are not yet fully familiar with how Klairy works, you can sign up. Click here if you are interested. We will then contact you in order to discuss the next available dates. LINE DRIVES THE NATIONAL COLLEGIATE BASEBALL WRITERS NEWSLETTER (Volume 46, No. 4, June 27, 2007) The President’s Message By NCBWA President Michael “Mex” Carey Membership: Our annual NCBWA meeting will be held in conjunction with the 50th annual CoSIDA national workshop in San Diego on Saturday, June 30, from 5-6 p.m. (PDT) at the San Diego Marriott Marina. Location is Marriott Hall, Salon 2, at the headquarters hotel. We just completed the most exciting time of the year and congratulate Oregon State for its impressive run to a second straight College World Series title. The NCAA Regionals were among the most exciting in recent years, with teams like Michigan and Louisville making surprising runs to the Super Regionals. We also capped off the NCBWA honors’ candidates and pitcher David Price won the coveted 21st annual Dick Howser Trophy. CSTV.com still has streamed video and audio of the presentation online, and the national cable network CSTV chose the Dick Howser Trophy presentation as its “Coca Cola College Sports Event of the Day” on Saturday, June 16. CSTV host Carter Blackburn had several taped cut-in interviews on June 16 with Price and Vandy head coach Tim Corbin. ESPN also spotted Price at the NCAA World Series on June 15 and highlighted the Howser Trophy and his achievements. On a personal note, this has been a tremendous experience to work with the NCBWA this year. The work done behind the scenes by folks like Russ Anderson, Bo Carter and Mike Montoro make this organization run, and make people have a greater appreciation for the college game.
