  • Theory of the Beautiful Game: the Unification of European Football
Scottish Journal of Political Economy, Vol. 54, No. 3, July 2007 r 2007 The Author Journal compilation r 2007 Scottish Economic Society. Published by Blackwell Publishing Ltd, 9600 Garsington Road, Oxford, OX4 2DQ, UK and 350 Main St, Malden, MA, 02148, USA THEORY OF THE BEAUTIFUL GAME: THE UNIFICATION OF EUROPEAN FOOTBALL John Vroomann Abstract European football is in a spiral of intra-league and inter-league polarization of talent and wealth. The invariance proposition is revisited with adaptations for win- maximizing sportsman owners facing an uncertain Champions League prize. Sportsman and champion effects have driven European football clubs to the edge of insolvency and polarized competition throughout Europe. Revenue revolutions and financial crises of the Big Five leagues are examined and estimates of competitive balance are compared. The European Super League completes the open-market solution after Bosman. A 30-team Super League is proposed based on the National Football League. In football everything is complicated by the presence of the opposite team. FSartre I Introduction The beauty of the world’s game of football lies in the dynamic balance of symbiotic competition. Since the English Premier League (EPL) broke away from the Football League in 1992, the EPL has effectively lost its competitive balance. The rebellion of the EPL coincided with a deeper media revolution as digital and pay-per-view technologies were delivered by satellite platform into the commercial television vacuum created by public television monopolies throughout Europe. EPL broadcast revenues have exploded 40-fold from h22 million in 1992 to h862 million in 2005 (33% CAGR).

And it works. These are the ingredients behind my successful productions for NOS, FOX Sports, Canal+, RTL, SBS6, Talpa, Ziggo and many other broadcasters. Look further to find out more about my production and directing experience in Sports. Productions This is my daily fare. Every year I take care of the production and direction of over 100 live television sport programmes. These programmes include many sports events, such as the matches in the Dutch Football Leaque, the Dutch National Football Team, the most important baseball tournaments and live coverage of boxing galas and other competitions. Besides this sports-based work, I also take care of the training of new directors. Television programmes I am specialised in live programmes that makes every fibre in your body feel the excitement and tension. It is necessary to react quickly, maintain an overview and to be able to draw on knowledge of the game. And it is always a matter of close collaboration with a strong and experienced crew. • 97Th Infantry Division
Memoirs of WWII –97th Infantry Division It has been the experience of all veterans that time brings a blurring of detail, that memories are less exact after events, and that first hand recordings in print on the spot serve best to put down in black and white what happened. ~ Unknown writer. REFLECTIONS ON THE 97TH INFANTRY DIVISION On his 90th Birthday Brigadier General Sherman V Hasbrouck As Told to J.W. Redding 18th June 1988 PREFACE The 97th Infantry Division was originally organized in September, 1918, and saw action in France during WWI. It was demobilized 20 November of the same year and reconstituted as an organized reserve unit. The Division was reactivated 25 February 1943 at Camp Swift, Texas, under the command of Maj Gen Louis A Craig. Brig Gen Julien Barnes was the Division Artillery Commander. The 303d Inf Regt and the 303d FA Bn were the only units with the reactivated division that can boast of battle streamers from World War I. The Division went through basic and unit training at Camp Swift. It took their physical fitness test there. The artillery battalions took their AGF firing test at Camp Bowie, Texas. During the latter part of October, 1943, the Division departed Camp Swift for the Louisiana Maneuver area, spending the next 3 months in the field on division exercises. Following the Louisiana Maneuver period, the Division was transferred to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri where it continued with unit training. While at Ft Leonard Wood, Gen Craig was assigned to the command of the 23d Corps which he relinquished to take command of a combat division in Europe.
