This tour departs every Thursday. A special Tuesday departure is available on December 29, 2009 and March 30, 2010; please check with us for rates. • Day 1 − Journey to Puyuhuapi Lodge &Spa, visiting Coihaique en route

You are met by our friendly representative upon arrival at Balmaceda Airport. After crossing the Patagonian pampas on a 45−minute drive, arrive in the town of Coihaique, home of some of the most beautiful scenery in Patagonia. After a brief visit, continue on a 5−hour drive to the Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa. This afternoon, board a speedboat for a 10−minute ride across the channel, arriving at your secluded destination. Check in to the Lodge and enjoy the rest of your day at leisure. (L, D)

• Day 2 − Rest and relax at the Spa

Enjoy a full day of relaxation at Puyuhuapi. You may choose to try any number of the Spa facilities, including a fully equipped thalassotherapy center (additional cost). (B,L,D)

• Day 3 − Explore and the Hanging Glacier

Depart this morning for a visit of Puerto Puyuhuapi and the Queulat National Park with its dramatic centerpiece, the Hanging Glacier. Return to the Lodge, where your afternoon is at leisure. (B,L,D)

• Day 4 − Your day your way at Puyuhuapi

Spend one more day luxuriating at Puyuhuapi. If you are seeking more adventure, the lodge also offers hikes through the cold forest, bicycle trips along the Austral Road, and kayak and boat navigations in Dorita Bay. (B,L,D)

• Day 5 − Catamaran adventure through the fjords

Check out of the lodge early this morning. At 07:00 a.m., board the Patagonia Express catamaran and begin the 7−hour voyage through the fjords to the San Rafael Lagoon and its millenarian glacier. After a 2−hour visit, start your return journey and arrive in Puerto Chacabuco tonight at 10:30 p.m. Transfer to your hotel either in Chacabuco or Coihaique for

• Day 6 − Scenic bus ride back to Balmaceda

After breakfast at the hotel, sit back and enjoy the scenery on a 2.5−hour bus trip to Balmaceda Airport. (B)

DESTINATION INFORMATION

• Balmaceda

Balmaceda is a Chilean village located south east of in Aisén Region. Balmaceda has around 500 inhabitants, and has Aysen Regions largest airport and meteorological station; Balmaceda Airport. The first settlers arrived into the zone in early 20th century after being expelled from since the borders between Chile and Argentina where drawn in 1902. In 1917 Balmaceda was officially founded and was named after the Chilean president José Manuel Balmaceda.

• Coihaique

Coihaique, also known as Coyhaique, is the capital city both of the Coyhaique and the Aisén Region of Chile. Founded in 1929 by settlers, it is a relatively young city. It was not until the second half of the twentieth century that the region's spectacular natural setting began to attract the attention of significant numbers from the outside world. Coihaique has some of the most beautiful scenery in Patagonia. It is surrounded by rivers and by mountains, which may be snow−covered throughout the year. On some days, it is said, you can experience all four seasons in a single day: rain, snow, wind, and then bright and warm sunshine.

• Puerto Chacabuco

Puerto Chacabuco is a Chilean town in Aisén commune. Administratively it belongs to Aisén Province in Aisén Region and is located at the head of Aisén Fjord. It is the main port of the region and port of call for ships sailing to the Laguna San Rafael National Park. Before the great burnings of the Patagonian forests and the eruption of Mount Hudson volcano in 1991, Puerto Aisén was the main port in the Aisén Fjord, but the ashes and earth erosion decreased the navigability of Aisén River and the port had to be mover further to the coast were Puerto Chacabuco now stands.

2 • Queulat National Park

Queulat National Park is a national park of Chile located in the Aisén Region. The park is bordered by the River on the south side and is neighbor to Lago Rosselot National Reserve. It contains 1,541 square kilometers of glacier−capped mountains and virgin evergreen forests. A portion of the Puyuhuapi Volcanic Group form part of the park, specifically the area south of the Lake Risopatrón. The park comprises two small ice fields, with glaciers of up to 12 km long. The largest glaciated area is Queulat ice cap, which encompasses about 80 km² and contains park's centerpiece, the Queulat Hanging Glacier.

• San Rafael Lagoon

San Rafael Lagoon is an arc−shaped coastal lake located in the Aisén Region of Chile, within the national park that bears its name. By the north the lagoon is connected to Moraleda Channel, by the south lies the Ofqui Isthmus. By west and east lies the and the Northern Patagonian Ice Field respectively. The Lagoon was formed by the retreat of the in the Northern Patagonian Ice Field. Today it is a popular tourism destination, and ships sail from Puerto Chacabuco and to the lagoon nearly every day to see the ice falling from the glacier into the lagoon.

What is the best time to travel to Chile?

Generally speaking, the best travel time for all of Chile is spring and summer of the Southern Hemisphere (end of September to beginning of May). Traveling in Chile’s northern region and is possible throughout the whole year. In southern Chile, the rainy season is winter (June to August). Santiago and its surroundings experience a temperate Mediterranean climate with a hot summer and mild winter.

What clothing and other items are recommended to bring?

Please dress comfortably according to the local weather conditions, which fluctuate greatly between the various climactic zones. Traveling through Chile you may need clothes for warm, cold, dry and wet climates. Please keep in mind that even in the summertime, nights can get quite cold in the North and South of Chile. We recommend bringing a sweatshirt or fleece jacket, raincoat, trousers, cargo shorts, t−shirts, hat, hiking shoes, sandals, swimsuit, toiletries, first−aid kit, insect repellent, aspirin, sun block and sunglasses.

Is travel insurance required to take the tour?

Travel insurance is not required, but we strongly recommend that you purchase a policy which covers medical, lost baggage, and trip cancellation. Please inquire with us for details.

What are the passport/visa requirements for travel to Chile?

You do need a valid passport, which should be valid at least 6 months after entering Chile. Upon entry in Chile you will receive a tourist card for a permitted stay of 3 months. Currently you do not need a visa if you are from Western Europe, North America, South America (except for Bolivia), Australia, New Zealand or Japan. Please consult with the Chilean embassy for Annulations with other countries. Citizens of the following countries have to pay an entry fee at the Chilean Customs office (please note, this amount corresponds to the amount Chileans have to pay in the respective countries): United States (USD 100), Canada (USD 55), Mexico (USD 22), and Australia (USD 30). Visa regulations can change at any time. Please note that you are responsible for informing yourself about the visa regulations. If in doubt, please contact the Chilean embassy in your home country.

What health precautions should I take before visiting Chile?

5 You should visit your personal physician for a check−up prior to taking your trip to Chile, and they would be able to inform you of any vaccinations or health precautions.

Is the water safe to drink?

We recommend that you only drink bottled water during the first few days of your tour. Bottled water is provided for your convenience during the excursions.

What is the official currency?

The official currency is the Chilean Peso. Unfortunately, other currencies are not widely accepted. Banks are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. only.

How common are ATMs? Can I exchange traveler’s checks?

ATMs are quite common in larger towns, and even a few small towns. You will also find debit−credit machines in many of the small shops. But if you are traveling to an isolated place such as Torres del Paine, you will not find an ATM. Traveler’s checks are not very common in Chile.

Will there be internet access or phone accessibility?

Yes, as Chile has the highest connectivity in South America.

What are the guidelines for tipping?

A tip in Chile, like in most of the countries in South America, is given to reward good service. Porters in hotels and airports expect the equivalent of USD 2, and a 10% tip is sufficient in most restaurants unless the service has been exceptional. It is customary to offer your tour guides and driver a token of appreciation at the tour’s end, which is at your discretion and should be made to reflect your enjoyment of the journey and quality of service provided.

What electric outlets are there?

All outlets are 220 volts, C&L.

How much are airport taxes?

Airport departure taxes, which are not included in your tour cost, run approximately USD 5 for national and USD 40 for international.

What kind of cuisine is served? Are there vegetarian options available?

Chilean food is quite simple and not spicy. Typical ingredients include rice, potatoes, beef and chicken, and there are vegetarian options available.

6 Are there any local customs to be aware of?

The concept of time in Chile is very relaxed; for example, 09:30 could end up meaning 10:15. Dinner tends to be served later in the evening; 9:00 p.m. would be considered early.

What safety issues should I be prepared for?

Chile is one of the safest countries in Latin America. When in big cities, keep an eye on your belongings and do not leave your wallets in plain sight. We do recommend that you carry important documents and cash in a belt under your clothes and do not leave items unattended.

Our office is located on the north side of Route 206 in Princeton, New Jersey. We are in the Research Park office complex, directly opposite from the Princeton Airport.

From points North:

Via Route 1: Take Route 1 South towards Trenton. After you pass Forrestal Village Campus, you will begin to see signs for “Downtown Princeton & Shoppingâ€. Turn right on Washington Road. Follow Washington Road for approximately 1.5 miles. Turn left on Nassau Street (Route 27). Turn right on Stockton Street (Route 206 North) & follow for approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Wall Street.

Via Route 287: Take Route 287 South towards Somerville. Take exit 17 for Route 206 South (Somerville). You will pass through a traffic circle – follow signs for Route 206 South. Follow Route 206 South for approximately 12 miles. Turn left onto Wall Street.

From points South:

Via the Garden State Parkway: Take the Parkway North/South to exit 98 for Route 138 West toward Trenton. Route 138 West becomes Route 195 West. Follow 195 West for approximately 17 miles. Merge onto Route 295 North toward Trenton. Follow directions below.

Via Route 95/ 295: Take Route 95 North until it becomes Route 295 North toward Trenton. Take exit 67A and merge onto Route 1 North. Follow Route 1 North for approximately 5 miles. Take the exit for Washington Road. Turn right on Washington Road. Follow Washington Road for approximately 1.5 miles. Turn left on Nassau Street (Route 27). Turn right on Stockton Street (Route 206 North) & follow for approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Wall Street.

By train:

Princeton Junction is the main train station along the Northeast Corridor for Amtrak and New Jersey Transit. Visitors can take a cab from here to Princeton or transfer to a one−car train to Princeton called the "Dinky". The train ride takes about

8 5 minutes, and drops you at University Place across from McCarter Theatre. If you choose this option, be sure to purchase a rail ticket to “Princeton†for presentation upon boarding the Dinky.

By bus:

Several buses arrive and depart daily from Princeton Research Park (i.e., New Jersey Transit’s 605 Montgomery Line). From the bus station, walk into the Research Park office complex. We are located at #20 Wall Street.
