BOOK FAIR THE GENIE JULY 1984 FROM THE EDITOR I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to all of you who have been so gracious in giving of your time and talents to help us mail THE GENIE on time. It is a joy to see the enthusiasm shown by everyone, but it is especially thrilling to see the new members offer their help. It is very gratifying and I thank each and every one of you. My special thanks go to those who live out of town, and even out of state, yet send their family sheets, bible records, cemetery, etc, etc. for us to publish. This really makes it OUR GENIE. Please keep those records coming. A very good friend from South Carolina is sending the 1870 census record for Bossier Parish, Louisiana. This is a very good record to publish in our quarterly. We feel this will be very beneficial to many of our members. Mr. Rayburn Pyle felt that his family research was taking him away from the meetings too much and resigned as Trustee for 1983-84, and Joyce Bridges was elected to fill the re mainder of his term of office. We will miss Mr. Pyle. Fern is taking care of one of her sisters who underwent serious surgery and will not be able to attend the July meeting, so she will not have a President's message this issue. We wish her sister a speedy recovery. I appreciate greatly the help I get from many quarterlies, but especially THE TREE TRACER. Every time I call them in Lawton, Oklahoma for a newspaper article or other help with genealogy they respond so graciously. Again my special thanks to all of you. Society of Genealogists recently involving ROBERT J. TARTE [ ( Jurl .leI ' of MSOG and a speaker at the Ark-La-Tex Genealogical Congress both years in New Orleans. He proclaimed his love for his wife publicly and rather appropriately on the billboard of Romeo's Supermarket in Ashland, Mass. In very large, black letters the message said: "Audrey after forty years I still love you the most - 1944 - 1984 Bob. Isn't that wonderful? Bob is a very knowledgeable, astute and un-common gentleman, and we learned to appreciate his wisdom, courtesy and knowledge at THE CONGRESS. ************************ MORE FAMILY NEWSLETTERS, ETC. Civil Registration of Non-Catholic marriages commenced In Ireland April 1845. From this date all such marriages are indexed in Dublin. Prior to 1845, a marriage may only be located by searching the Marriage registers of the various churches serving the area where your ancestor lived. In a rural area this would not be too difficult, but in Belfast the task would be quite difficult. The Irish Genealogical Service has compiled an Index relating to the various Protestant Churches in Belfast that have in their custody records prior to 1845. They will research this Index for you at a cost of $5.00 (U.S.) . For further information contact: DAVID McELROY, Irish Genealogical Services 6~ - Ivanhoe Avenue, Carryduff, Belfast, BT8 8BW, Northern Ireland. Please enclose $1.00. ********************* . The depression forced many banks to fail. The unclaimed property consists of family papers, coins, jewelry and other personal objects that may have sentimental value. Claims from individuals are to be considered before claims from states or other organizations. Names are listed alphabetically by state, city, town of bank location. You may or may~ot have a claim, but we ask that you contact the State Archivist and ask him to have the State file to claim the unclaimed portion of these records so they will not be destroyed. It is to be hoped our State Archivist has some knowledge of this particular problem and can assist the people involved. Many times people keep birth certificates, bibles, and other pertinent materials in their safety boxes, and if this is true we need to save those materials.
