Assessment Instruments:

Homework Lab Assignment Midterms and Final CSLO 1 X CSLO 2 X X CSLO 3 X X X CSLO 4 X X CSLO 5 X

CSLO 1: Lab Assignment: As students complete lab projects they are evaluated for properly using tools safely, maintaining a safe work environment and keeping tools clean and organized.

CSLO 2: Homework: Homework assignments are assigned from required reading within the courses textbook regarding automotive braking systems theory. Assignments may be based in short quiz format or written question format dependent upon the content of the chapter. Midterms and Final: Midterm and final exam will be in ASE format (industry test standards). And assess the student’s ability to describe the theory and operation of automotive braking systems. Example: According to Pascal’s law what is the resulting force on a that is 10.5 square inches in a system with 55psi?

CSLO 3: Homework: Homework assignments are assigned from required reading within the courses textbook regarding servicing disk and drum brake assemblies according to manufacturer’s specifications. Assignments may be based in short quiz format or written question format dependent upon the content of the chapter. Example: Why does a hydraulic system require bleeding after a component has been replaced? Lab Assignment: The student will be required to perform the proper inspection of disc and drum brakes, complete the disassembly, cleaning and reassembly of the braking system. The lab assignments will be evaluated by the instructor. Midterms and Final: Midterm and final exam will be in ASE format (industry test standards). Midterm and Final exams will be used to test the student’s knowledge of standard repair and servicing of disk and drum brake systems.

CSLO 4: Lab Assignment: Lab assignments will require the student to complete an inspection of hydraulic lines, master cylinders, cylinders and calipers. The student will also be required to rebuild or replace worn or defective parts. Midterms and Final: Midterm and final exam will be in ASE format (industry test standards). And assess the student’s ability to describe the procedures related to refilling and bleeding brake systems and flushing hydraulic systems.

CSLO 5: Lab Assignment: Students will be assigned a vehicle for diagnosis and repair. The instructor will assess the student’s ability to complete all diagnostic test procedures related to ABS electrical components. Students will be assessed on their ability to retrieve and read computer codes with manufacturers scan tools.

Method of Evaluation/Grading:

A level student work is characterized by: Tests, exams and homework that accurately answer questions regarding mechanical, hydraulic and electrical brake systems 90% or above; and lab work that safely services disk and drum brakes including proper inspection of disc and drum brakes, completing the disassembly, cleaning and reassembling of the braking system with minimal or no guidance; lab work that safely services hydraulic and power hydraulic braking systems including completing an inspection of hydraulic lines, master cylinders, wheel cylinders and calipers and accurately rebuild or replace worn or defective parts with minimal or no guidance; and lab work that safely services ABS braking systems according to manufacturer’s specifications with minimal or no guidance and including detailed and accurate repair work order with explanation for each diagnosis and repair made.
