Program of Study 2020-2021 Lemon Bay High School Dear LBHS Student and LBHS Parents/Guardians: Welcome to the 2020-2021 Program of Studies Guide for the upcoming school year. Our school takes great care in constructing this publication so that it can serve as a useful and informational tool for you to navigate the scheduling process for your upcoming academic year. Careful and thoughtful planning, before and during your high school years, is important for the following reasons: 1. It should aim at a timely and complete separation (with diploma) from high school no later than four years after your entry into high school. 2. It should satisfy your completion of required (State of Florida and Charlotte County) graduation credits in very specific subject areas, both mandatory and elective. 3. It should make your accumulation of learning experiences (courses and credits) very focused as you plan for a post- secondary future: vocational college admission, 2-year and 4-year college admission, entry into a certified area of employment, enlistment in one of the branches of the armed services. These considerations are extremely important because adulthood will include your becoming economically viable and independent as you separate from your parents and your financial reliance upon them. 4. It should include a realistic examination of your history of achievement in your current and prior years of learning. 5. It should align directly with your interests in how you hope to spend your work-life (interest), how you hope to become economically viable (wage forecast), the training and further education you will need in your career (preparation). This publication provides an overview of your options at Lemon Bay and in Charlotte County. It also gives a deeper examination of each of these options as well as a planning sheet for how your courses and credits will distribute over your four years. Should you seek further information about the content and titles of some of your courses, these, too, can be found nearer the back of this publications pages. Finally, this guide provides more detailed information and definitions about graduation-related assessments and requirements that accompany your accumulation of credits over you high school years. Lemon Bay possesses a strong history of academic achievement among its students: we are an “A” school in the State of Florida School Grade-program. Your teachers and our LBHS staff work very diligently to ensure your acquisition of needed skills and knowledge which accumulate significantly as you progress to graduation. The habits you demonstrate and cultivate during you high school years relate directly to the type of independent worker and responsible employee you will become in your life beyond high school. About one-third of our current student body will pursue a curriculum that leads to college admission/further education; one-third will pursue a specific Career Tech certification program; and another one-third will enter the armed services of the work force, upon graduation from LBHS. Take care to make the most of your high school years: choose your courses wisely, work hard to achieve the best grades you can in mastering new skills and content, and prepare yourself (through discipline and habit) to excel in the life that awaits you after graduation. Thank you for your care in reading this guide and in completing your course registration (schedule) for the 2020-2021 school year. Should you need help with your journey, with this guide, or with schedule planning, please contact your guidance counselor. Sincerely, Bob Bedford Registration Timeline: Students will attend a large group meeting in the blackbox to review their current transcript and to hear a presentation about course offerings from guidance.
